Parnter: Seventeen's Vernon

It was just another boring day at school.

Vernon sat in his seat at the front of the class with his headphones on.

Someone tapped him on his shoulder. Soonyoung meekly smiled at his seat partner. "Did you do yesterday's homework?" Vernon nodded.

Soonyoung immediately clapsed his hands together and pouted while batting his eyes. "Can I-"

Vernon passed the paper to him. It was nothing new.

Soonyoung lightly gasped and hugged Vernon. "I'll buy you ice cream later." He promised before copying the homework.

Vernon shook his head with a smile before putting his headphones away. Class would start soon.

The rowdy class settled when the homeroom teacher came in. "Good morning class. I have good news and bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?"

Majority of the students chose the bad news first. "Your field trip to the skit resort will be postponed to January." The class groaned and complained.

The teacher put her finger to her lips to calm them down. "Now, the good news. There will be a new student joining us!"

The class started whispering to each other. Vernon raised his brow. A new student? In the middle of the school year? 

"Please come in!" The door opened and Vernon was blinded by her beauty.

A petite girl with short brown hair and bangs walked in. She was wearing the school uniform like every other girl at the school but she was shining.

Vernon's heart did a flip when she turned to the class and made eye contact with him.

"Hello. My name is Nam Mireli. I hope we get close." Mireli smiled, causing Vernon's heart to do another flip. His mouth was hanging open as he stared at her.

The teacher looked around the class. "She's a transfer student from America."

Vernon inwardly smiled, Like me. 

"There's an empty seat at the back of the class. Why don't you go sit there."

Vernon turned around to see the school's "bad boy" smirking and his lips as he stared at Mireli's legs.

Vernon furrowed his brows. I can't let him get near her. 

Vernon raised his hand. "Yes, Vernon?" "She can sit here." He pointed to the seat next to him.

Soonyoung gawked at him. "But Sooyoung-"

"Is going to sit at the back. He was going to move today." Vernon turned to his friend. "Right?"

When Soonyoung didn't move, Vernon pushed him out of his seat and apologetically smiled. Soonyoung huffed and walked to the back.

Vernon turned around and mouthed, Thanks. Soonyoung crossed his arms and stuck his tongue out, No ice cream for you. 

Vernon chuckled but stopped breathing when Mireli sat down next to him. She took her books out and paid attention to the teacher.

Vernon forced himself to breathe again. Bad idea. When did girls smell so nice?

Vernon decided to pay attention to the teacher before she caught him staring at her.

The teacher soon left, leaving the students to study on their own.

Vernon bit his pencil and glanced at Mireli. She wasn't doing anything. Now was his chance.

Okay, Vernon. She's just another girl. And you're just trying to make her feel welcomed. 

He cleared his throat, catching her attention. Be cool. 

Vernon leaned back on the desk, trying to look comfortable but he felt utterly awkard. "So you're from America?" Mireli nodded.

"Cool. I am too." She rasied a brow, genuinely interested. "Where?"

Vernon inwardly cheered, She responded. That's a good sign. "New York."

"I'm from Atlanta."

"Ah, Atlanta, Texas."

Mireli furrowed her brows. "What?"

Vernon's eyes widened at his mistake. "I-I mean, Atlanta, Georgia. Psh, Texas isn't even near it..."

Vernon turned the other way with wide eyes as he scolded himself. What the heck was that, Vernon? Atlanta, Texas? You've got to be kidding me. 

He could feel himself blushing. He fanned himself and nervously chuckled as she smiled a little.

Vernon opened his mouth to talk again when his arms slipped off the desk and he almost fell back. "Woah!"

Fortunately, he caught himself before he could embarrass himself more in front of her. Mireli stifled a laugh and started to study.

Vernon never realized how much of a klutz he was until he met Mireli.

Whenever she was around, he would smile like a fool and blush whenever they made eyes contact. Every time he tried to approach her, he would either trip on nothing or bump into something or someone near by.

It's been two weeks and they never had a proper conversation, thanks to Vernon and his clumsiness.

Vernon packed his backpack as soon as he could as the students piled out of the classroom. He slung his backpack over his right shoulder and jogged out, trying to catch up with Mireli.

"Mireli!" She turned around and stuck her hands out as Vernon almost tripped again.

He caught himself before he could and smiled. "I got better, huh?" Mireli laughed. Vernon's smile grew wider when he saw her smile.

"Look. I know all I ever did in front of you was fall or bump into something and be a klutz." Mireli giggled and waited for him to continue.

"So I want to show you the real me. When I'm not so clumsy and foolish."

He rubbed the back of his neck. "I've been meaning to do this for a while ago but do you...want to go get ice cream? My treat."

Mireli smiled and nodded. "I'd love to." Vernon smiled and held his hand out in front of him. "Ladies first."

Mireli giggled and walked ahead of him. Vernon followed behind and cheered inside his head. Good job, Vernon. You finally did it. 

He triumphantly grinned until he bumped into the door, making Mireli burst out in laughter.
