"Open to page 201."

Shownu did as told while Jungah heavily sighed. She did well in her Economics class the semester before but Government was troubling her.

"Who even cares about the White House? It's not like we're all going into politics." She huffed and slumped in her chair.

Shownu chuckled at his seat partner and softly shushed her. Their teacher was infamous for giving detention to their students for making a smallest sounds.

"Who knows the requirements for becoming a House member? Anyone?" The teacher sighed. All the students looked dead as their eyes opened and closed.

"One, you have to be over 25 years old. Who can become a member here?"

The class didn't respond. "You're right. Me. If anyone of you could, then you'd be super duper seniors."

Jungah now sat with her cheek pressed against her palm with her elbow rested on the two-seater desk. 

"Second, you have to have been a citizen for at least 7 years. I'm sure you were all born here, yes?"

Jungah snickered and glanced at Shownu. "Not this alien. No human being can be as strong as him and have the face of an kid."

Shownu playfully glared at her.

"What? It's true," she whispered while shrugging.

"Kang Jungah, Son Hyunwoo. Meet me after class."

Jungah groaned and put her head down on the desk. Shownu would've reacted the same way if he were any other student who actually had a life outside of school. For Shownu, according to Jungah, it was just school, school, and school. Jungah was an exception. 

Shownu first met Jungah when she was ten years old. He had saved her from getting hit by a truck. 

Jungah barely remembered the incident, her mind having erased bits of the traumatic memory. 

Shownu walked into her life again during her junior year of high school, six years later. She was a lot more mature than what he remembered. Her hair and legs were longer, but her big eyes that were full of life were the same.

Shownu chuckled as Jungah kept complaining while wiping the chalkboards. The teacher had given them detention for two hours after school.

"What time is- It's only been fifteen minutes?!" Jungah threw the eraser on the floor. "Times going by too slow. I'm going to sleep." She walked over to the desk in the middle of the room, hoping Shownu would finish the cleaning for her. He always finished what was left undone and cleaned up after her.

He was like her personal bodyguard, slave, and assistant. He did everything for her.

Jungah never told him but she was super thankful to have him in her life. After her parents died of a tragic fire in her house on her 16th birthday, she had no one to depend on. She spent her days at the hospital where the doctors tried their best to help her find her voice again, wondering what important thing her parents had to tell her.

That was the last thing they said before passing.

But that was when Shownu walked into her life. He was a godsend.

What she didn't know was that Shownu was actually sent to her. But not by God. By the devil. By Satan himself.

"She's the key to getting ahold of those vamps."

Shownu kept his eyes down as Satan ordered him.

"We have to get those vamps before the Angels do. You know that, right?"

"Yes, sir."

"I heard you saved her."

Shownu panicked as Satan smirked. "When was that? Six years ago? I was wondering where you were going then." Satan stepped down to his level and clapped his shoulder. "Already keeping your eye on the target, smart."

Shownu relaxed. He didn't want Satan to find out that he was trying to save her from what was coming.

"I already took care of her parents. Made it look like an accident. Poor girl. You should've seen the look on her face when she found out." Satan clucked his tongue, making a 'tsk' sound. "Priceless."

Shownu tigthened his fists that were behind his back. He hated being a part of the underworld. He just had to be Satan's right hand man. He should've taken the girl to a safe place when he had the chance.

"I want you to get the girl and bring her to me."

Shownu finally looked up and made eye contact with Satan's devilish eyes. His own were filled with shock and fear. 

"She's the next heir to the throne. The only one who can controls those vamps. Bring her here before the next sacrifice and I'll let you keep your life. If not, both you and the girl die."

The next sacrifice was in two days.

Shownu has been dreading the day, trying to stall as much as he could. He even offered Jungah a ticket to Switzerland, her dream land. But what would taking her to another part of the world do? Satan would be able to find her in less than a minute.

He looked at Jungah who was sound asleep. He walked over, bent down, and brushed her hair from her face. 

His eyes softened as he gently touched her cheek. "I wish we were normal human beings. Then we could go far away and have our happily ever after. If only we were human."

Shownu jumped back onto his feet when he heard a hissing sound echoing through the halls.

He shook Jungah awake and dragged her out of the room. 

"What's going on? What about detention?"

"Let's ditch."

Jungah gasped. "What? Son Hyunwoo is skipping detention? The devil must've finally gotten to your head."

You have no idea.

Shownu tightened his grip on her hand and thought about how it fit perfectly. What innapropriate timing.

They ran past the school gates. The sky was colored like a canvas as the sun set.

He paced back and forth, trying to figure out where the hissing sound was coming from. He decided to just run. He had to get her away from them.

"Where are we going? Our houses are the other way."

Shownu turned around and grabbed her shoulders with shaky eyes. "Do you trust me?"

"What? That's so random-"

"Do you trust me?" He asked again with a firm voice.

Jungah saw his trembling eyes and felt how strong his grip was and realized something was wrong. "Yes," she whispered.

Shownu took her hand again and ran. He skidded to a stop when three figures appeared in front of them.

Jungah screamed. She had never seen anything more hideous.

Shownu protectively pushed her behind his strong build.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Our own kind disobeying my orders?"

"You can't take her. She's innocent."

"Times almost up."

"She doesn't know anything!"

Jungah was shaking, holding onto his shirt. This was the first time hearing Shownu yell. He actually sounded mad. She looked at his back and realized that he was shaking too. He was scared for the first time too.

"So what? She doesn't have to know. All she has to do is be there. We'll do the controlling."

What don't I know? Who are these men? Are they even humans?

"You're a traitor, Shownu. I can't let you ruin my plan."

"Shownu?" Jungah spoke up from behind him. "Hyunwoo, what are they saying? What's going on?"

"We gave you two years, Shownu. After two years of doing great in making her believe you, you try to back out."

Shownu spoke in a low voice with gritted teeth. "Shut up."

Jungah furrowed her brows. "Making me believe you? What does he mean, Hyunwoo?"

"Don't you know, little girl? He was ordered to become your friend. He's not real. Everything he said were lies," he spat.

Shownu glared at Satan. "Shut up! Jungah, don't listen to him."

Jungah slowly let go of his shirt. "Is that true?"

Shownu turned around and tried to hold her but she stepped back.

"You were using me? You lied so that you could take me to him?"

"Jungah..."

"I was just a job to you." Her eyes were b with tears as she took steps back. "All of those things you told me were lies. Everything was fake."

"Jungah, trust me-"

"Are you glad that you could get your money now? Was it that important to you?"

Shownu hated her accusing eyes. The eyes that were once so bright and alive were now full of tears and disappointment.

"Please, Jungah-" Shownu's eyes widened when two of Satan's men appeared behind her.

"Jungah!"

Before he could grab her, the devils knocked her unconscious and vanished into thin air, taking her with them.

Shownu yelled at Satan with tears threatening to fall. "Where did you take her?!" He lunged toward Satan who smirked before disappearing right before Shownu could reach him.

He fell on the cold floor and cried out in agony. He couldn't let them get away with this. He will get her back, no matter what.
