Anne scrolled through her camera roll and laughed at the pictures she took with her friends at the beach. She kept scrolling up until she saw a bunch of screenshots of what looked like the same thing. 

"What is this?"

Anne clicked on the first screenshot of a message she had with someone. Her heart sunk when she saw the person she had been texting.

"Wanna go see Suicide Squad tomorrow?" Received 9:11pm.

"Um, I heard it's not that good and tomorrow's a school day." Sent 9:11pm

"And??? Who cares if it ? At least we'll be hanging out :-)" Received 9:12pm

A smile crept onto Anne's lips as she read more messages.

"Seungcheol is so hot! Why did he have to do that dance at the talent show??" Sent 5:06pm

"GASP. Dude I'm hurt and disgusted." Received 5:07pm

"Why?" Sent 5:07pm

"You should keep your eyes only on me! And I don't want to hear about your weird for my cousin." Received 5:08pm

"?! Mingyu! It's not a ! Do you even know what that means? I just admire him as a dancer!" Sent 5:09pm

"I'm going to tell him about your ." Received 5:09pm

"Mingyu!" Sent 5:09pm

Anne chuckled as she thought about the awkward mood Mingyu set up for Seungcheol and her the next day at school.

"Anne, why'd you ignore me at school today?" Received 4:00pm

"Anne!" Received 4:05pm

"Sorry, I don't talk to strangers." Sent 4:06pm

"Anne...come on. Don't be like this. You say that whenever you're disappointed in me! What did I do this time?" Received 4:07pm

"Uh, I don't know. I waited for two hours and you stood me up for a party at Soonyoung's? When were you ever close with him anyway?" Sent 4:07pm

"Anne, I'm sorry." Received 4:08pm

"Whatever. It's like I don't know you anymore." Sent 4:10pm

Anne bit her lower lip.

"I promise." Received 1:32am

"You have to, Gyu." Sent 1:33am

"Of course! You're my best friend. Once I get my license, I'll be your personal, gorgeous driver ;-)" Received 1:34am

"Ew." Sent 1:34am

You promised but never took me. Anne felt her cheeks in shock when she felt something wet slide down her face. "What the hell? I'm crying?"

Anne sat up from her bed and wiped her tears. She scoffed, "He doesn't deserve my tears. He's the one that left his best friend for that brat of a girlfriend."

Anne sighed and lied back down. "He doesn't deserve my tears," she mumbled before drifting off to sleep.

"Did you hear?"

"Hear what?"

"Mingyu and Dahyun broke up!"

"WHAT? But they were like THE hottest couple!"

"I know! I wonder why they- oh, the teachers coming!"

Anne stared at her blank paper with scribbles all over from pretending like she was writing something down. They broke up? Why? She shook her head, I shouldn't waste my time thinking about him.

Anne walked to the student parking lot and unlocked her car door. She was about to open it when someone called her name. She turned around and her face grew hard. 

"Anne...." Mingyu jogged up to her and caught his breathe. He was breathing hard as if he just ran a mile in this heat. "I want to talk to you."

He was alone for once. No Darling Dahyun glued to his arm like a koala.

"Well I don't, so if you will excuse me." 

Anne reached for her car door but Mingyu grabbed her wrist. "Anne, please." He sounded so desperate. He was pleading.

Anne huffed out a sigh and jerked away from him. "Sorry, I don't talk to strangers."

She saw Mingyu's facial expression change but couldn't read it. She opened the door and didn't look at him again but could feel him staring at her. Anne didn't realize she was holding her breathe until after she was out of the parking lot.

Anne finished her errands late today. "It's already midnight? Good thing it's a Friday." She got into her car and shut the door. She started the engine and drove out of the Walmart parking lot. 

She made a turn into a shortcut to get home when her car sputtered and slowed down. "What the hell?"

Anne stepped on the gas but the car didn't budge. She hit the steering wheel in frustration. "."

She grabbed her phone and her jaw dropped when it didn't turn on. "You too?"

Anne sat there for five minutes, contemplating what to do. Mingyu's house was just down the street. Should she go there and ask him for a ride? "No, what am I thinking?"

Just then, someone called her name. And her heart skipped a beat for the second time that day. She turned and gulped when she saw Mingyu getting out of his car.

"Why are you here? Are you here to talk to me?-"

"Hell no." Why am I being so defensive? "I was just on my way home after going to Walmart and my car shut down."

"Have you tried calling anyone?"

"My phones off, you doofus. If it was working, I wouldn't still be here."

Anne noticed how his lips curved up a little as he said, "Hold on."

Mingyu went back to his car and tried calling someone. "Dang it. Triple A is closed right now but you can always leave it here and pick it up tomorrow."

"How will I get back home?"

Mingyu grinned at her while swinging his car keys around his index finger. Anne rolled her eyes but ended up sitting in the passenger seat of his car anyway. 

Anne glanced at Mingyu before asking, "Aren't you going to start the car?"

"Let's talk first."

"I'm getting out."

The doors locked when she grabbed the handle. "Mingyu!" 

She unlocked the door and grabbed the handle but Mingyu stopped her. "Anne, please."

Anne sighed and sat back down. "Only for a couple of minutes."

"Okay."

It was silent for a minute. 

"I'm sorry."

Mingyu stopped right there. Anne shot him a look. "You're sorry? That's all you have to say after two years of not talking to me? No explanation? Just "I'm sorry"?"

"No, I just- I can't find the right words to say." 

Anne waited. 

"Then I'll start here. I broke up with Dahyun today."

Anne rolled her eyes. "Wow, that's great. Can I go now?"

"Can you just let me finish?" 

Anne softened at his tone and decided to stay quiet.

"I realized what a she was. You warned me and I can't believe it took me two years to see what you saw in a day." He turned to her. "I should have listened to you and stayed by your side. I didn't know that that was what my heart was telling me to do all this time."

Anne looked at him. "What?"

"I always felt different whenever I was with you and when you were gone, I was so...I felt so empty. I didn't know why until Dahyun pointed out that I kept mentioning you and looking your way during class."

Mingyu did that?

"What I'm trying to say is, I'm a who's in love with you."

Anne sat there speechless. "You're in love with me?"

"But I don't deserve you, huh? It's okay. I'm ready for rejection. I was such a jerk to you-"

"Can you take me home?"

Mingyu blinked. "Uh, yeah sure." He started the car.

The car ride was silent. Anne stared out the window while biting her thumbnail. Mingyu looked at her and back to the street. 

She's biting her nail. That means she's in deep thought. Do I have a chance?

"We're here."

Anne gathered her things and stepped out of the car. Mingyu rolled down the window. "When can I get an answer?"

Anne looked at him for the first time after his confession, flushed. "U-Um, Monday."

"Damn, I wish today wasn't a Friday."

Anne didn't say goodbye and turned to go.

"Wait! I just want you to know that I'm always here whenever you need me, or need a ride. I know it's late, but I keep my promises."

Anne shut the door and held her chest. Good thing it's a Friday. It gives me time to think.
