Pairing: Hyejin&Baekhyun, Chanyeol

Plot: Baekhyun, Chanyeol, and Hyejin are childhood best friends. Hyejin and Chanyeol were siblings while Baekhyun was their parents' best friend’s son. Hyejin wasn't that close before with Baekhyun when they were young, but they were getting closer and closer as they grew. But now, when Hyejin turned 17, Baekhyun grew more distant towards her, they still greeted each other, but they weren't as close as before. She didn't even know his feelings for her right now since Baekhyun has indirectly rejected her once when they were young (trying to not hurting her feelings of course).

“Hyejinnie!”

The said girl walked towards her brother with her pouty cute lips. She was only 6 then, so her words were still incoherent.

“Yesh, Obba?”

Chanyeol waved and smiled brightly, “Come here, Hyejinnie. I’ll introduce someone to you!”

Hyejin obeyed and took his small hand when he stretched it out for her to take it. “Obba. Who arwe whe sheeing?” (Oppa, who are we seeing?)

Chanyeol beamed and brought her over to his room. “My friend, Hyejinnie. He’s an oppa to you too!” He opened his room door and walked in with his sister.

“Hyejinnie, this is Baekhyun oppa.”

Chanyeol turned to Baekhyun and introduced him to his sister too, “Baekhyunie, this is my sister, Hyejinnie.”

Hyejin bowed slightly and grinned, “Hello, Baekhyun obba~”

“Hello, Hyejinnie!” Baekhyun waved and ruffled her short hair playfully.

“Hyejinnie, play with us!”

Hyejin nodded her head happily but when she sat next to them, she didn’t even know what they were talking about.

Their topics were all about robots and cars, which Hyejin didn’t even understand. So in the end, Hyejin left the room and returned to her own.

Only after hours did Chanyeol found his sister missing, “Where’s Hyejinnie?!”

Baekhyun shrugged his small shoulders and pouted, “I have no idea. Maybe she got bored?”

“I guess so.” Chanyeol sighed, “Maybe we shouldn’t leave her out. I’ll talk to her again!”

“Okay!” Baekhyun nodded his head, agreeing with him.

“Baekhyun-ah!” They could hear his mother’s shout from downstairs clearly. “Chanyeolie I have to go now. Omma is calling for me.”

“Okay! Do you want to say goodbye to Hyejinnie?”

“Okay!”

Chanyeol brought him over to the room next to his and entered, “Hyejinnie. Baekhyunie is going now. Say bye-bye to him!”

Hyejin leave her plushie alone and walked over to them. “Bwye-Bywe Baekhyun obba!”

Baekhyun patted her small head and smiled, “I will be here soon to play with you! Next time, you won’t get bored, I promise!”

He even took his pinky finger out to make a promise with her.

Hyejin beamed and took his pinky finger willingly, “Obba, prwomise!”

“Yes, I promise.” Baekhyun beamed and left her room with Chanyeol, before heading down to his mother.

Baekhyun went to their house often.

His parents were friends with Chanyeol and Hyejin’s parents, so they often brought Baekhyun over to have fun with the two kids.

As promised, Baekhyun did play with Hyejin indeed.

The three of them often played together. They were used to games like catching, ice-and-water, hide-and-seek, and they will draw on the sketchbook together sometimes. They found lots of joy doing things together and since then, they were inseparable.

Hyejin would cling onto Baekhyun, as though they were real siblings. Chanyeol found it amusing to have his own sister loving his friend, so he didn’t mind that at all.

As they grew up, their parents sent them to the same pre-school, which caused them to be more glued together as compared to before.

The three of them had been best friends for 6 years already, and Hyejin was still the same Hyejin. Although she was already 12, she still has the young and sticky personality in her.

So she stuck with the two older guys every single day.

However, right when the two guys were about to enter middle school, Hyejin found Baekhyun to be drifting apart from her.

He even sent signals and warnings, although indirectly to her, telling her to keep her distance away.

There was once where Hyejin won the game in the arcade and she pounced onto Baekhyun happily. However, Baekhyun pushed her off him and walked off to the other game console, leaving Hyejin in confusion behind. Chanyeol stared at the both of them and raised a brow at Baekhyun’s actions too. That was the first time he did that.

And the same actions repeated itself even more as they grew up.

Baekhyun finally told Hyejin verbally about his own thoughts one day. They were walking back home from school together, and Hyejin was walking in the middle.

She took Chanyeol’s hand and beamed widely, before taking Baekhyun’s hand.

But the latter shook her hands off and whispered, “I’m sorry. I have sweaty palms.”

Hyejin frowned as she stared at his speed-walking figure, away from them. “Oppa, did Baekhyun oppa change? He wasn’t like this before.”

Chanyeol smiled and patted her head lightly, “Don’t worry. It will be fine.”

Hyejin heeded his advice and forgot about it. But Baekhyun continued to shoot comments about her touching him as the days went by.

Hyejin eventually stopped doing that.

She told herself not to touch Baekhyun when they were together.

But as time passed, she found herself getting awkward with him too. Only until the two guys left pre-school for middle school, did she felt that she could actually breathe properly.

She spent her last year of pre-school happily, and had already forgotten about Baekhyun. He didn’t even spend his holiday in their house any longer.

However, to her dismay, her parents sent Hyejin to the same middle school as Baekhyun and Chanyeol.

She felt awkward seeing him after so long, but managed to pull it through.

Hyejin would bow in politeness when she walked passed Baekhyun in the hallway and cafeteria, or wherever they saw each other.

Baekhyun too, bowed in return, and they said a simple ‘hi’ before walking away from each other.

Hyejin would stare at his back and sighed in sadness. *Why did we end up like this? Oppa, do you actually know I love you so you kept your distance?*

Baekhyun didn’t even turn around and left her vision at once.

Their middle school ended just like that.

Next was their high school.

To her luck, they entered the same high school, again. Their parents thought they were still best friends and thought it would be good to actually place them together.

But they thought wrong, obviously.

The duo did the same thing when they saw each other in school, and sometimes would pretend not to see each other.

That was how bad it became.

Chanyeol tried to help to salvage their relationship, since he could see his sister hurting so much. But in the end, it turned out fruitless, since the duo wouldn’t even talk to each other in the first place.

During the last week of winter vacation, Hyejin was the happiest for the whole week, because she finally will turn 17 that weekend.

Her friends had promised her to bring her out to the amusement park on her birthday, to celebrate with her, and she gladly agreed to them.

Baekhyun had been out of her mind for long.

She had not thought about him that often as compared to before, but she still do, just sometimes. She admitted she still loved Baekhyun but she was trying her best to let him go.

How could someone love another for such a long period of time?

She was amused by her own feelings but all she could do was to hide them away, forever. She hoped badly, for a new guy to appear in her life and became her new prince charming instead.

Baekhyun had been her prince charming ever since she was 6, just because he changed his playing toys to play with her.

She had been looking up at him, and loving him from afar since 6, up till now, 17.

A long 11 years.

But her love interest wouldn’t even land his eyes on her, so she tried her best to give up already, even though she hoped dearly for Baekhyun to remember her birthday, at the very least.

“It’s tomorrow, Hyejinnie~”

Hyejin beamed at her brother who just lay down beside her, on her bed. “Oppa~ Where’s my present?!”

Chanyeol giggled as he slapped her hands playfully, which were asking for present. “You’ll see tomorrow.”

“Really?! I have one?!”

“Of course, honey. When did I not give you one?” Chanyeol beamed widely as he her hair gently. “Go to sleep, honey. You said you’re going to the amusement park tomorrow, didn’t you? You need energy to play!”

Hyejin closed her eyes in bliss as she cuddled up next to Chanyeol. “Goodnight, oppa~”

“Goodnight, baby girl.” Chanyeol whispered as he held her tight in his arms, to keep her warm. He eyed the clock on her wall and beamed against her forehead. “Happy birthday.”

“Thank you… Oppa…”

Chanyeol giggled and patted her back to lure her to sleep. “Sleep tight, baby girl.”

*How I wish I could sent Baekhyun to you but he’s one stubborn kid. He doesn’t want you hurt. Still… Happy birthday, baby girl.*

Hyejin woke up when her alarm rang and she sprinted off to get ready at once. Her friends told her to meet up at the amusement park at 10AM, right when the park will open, so they have a full day to enjoy it.

Hyejin was humming to a happy song as she changed out of her sleeping wear.

Finally, she finished preparing herself. She rushed to the door and wore her sneakers quickly, “I’ll be back soon, oppa! Omma, appa too, see you later!”

“Bye~ Happy birthday honey~” Her parents cooed as they sent her off. As for Chanyeol, he didn’t even reply. He was pondering whether he should show her his surprise gift at all.

Hyejin was about 5 minutes late and her friends were already there with huge helium balloon on their hands. “Oh my!” She had her hands cupping in surprise.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HYEJINNIE!”

Hyejin hugged each and every one of them and took the balloons over. “You guys are so awesome!”

“Yeah, we know!” Her friends laughed in bliss and tugged her over to the entrance, “And we shared your ticket too! Let’s go in now!”

Hyejin was left in surprise again. “You guys…”

She had her eyes b with joyful tears but managed to keep them in.

They enjoyed a blast in the park for the whole noon before they decided to bring Hyejin to a restaurant in it, to cut her birthday cake.

They even sang the birthday song for her happily.

Hyejin made wishes and blew the candles off, before cutting up the cake for everyone to share. She even gave a few pieces to the staff of the restaurant, who were more than happy to receive the treats.

After a fun and enjoyable noon, her friends finally sent her back home in the evening. They knew she would like to spend some time with her family on her birthday too.

Hyejin walked into the house with weird and confused expression. The house was dark with no lights on. Her family should be at home at that moment. Now, where did they go?

Hyejin took off her shoes and kept them properly in the shoe rack before walking into the house. “Appa? Omma?”

No response.

She walked further into the house and stopped right by the stairs. “Oppa?” She yelled upstairs for her brother.

No response.

Feeling even more confused, she walked over to the switch, trying to on the lights but even before she could reach, the light by itself.

Her parents popped out from behind the couch as Chanyeol was at the switch. The three of them yelled a loud cheer for her.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HYEJINNIE!”

Hyejin cupped with happiness and tears b at her eyes again. First, her friends surprised her and celebrated with her. Now, her family did too. That was the best thing that happened to her.

She had the perfect life everybody else wanted.

Hyejin strolled over to the couch and hugged her parents tightly. “Appa… Omma…”

Chanyeol jogged over and hugged the three of them in his long arms, “Happy birthday, Hyejinnie. My cute little sister.”
