Plot: Sequel of Chapter 19

Myungsoo opened his eyes and threw up some water he drank from the sea. He looked up, only to find the big blue sky staring down at him happily.

Birds were chirping up in the sky.

Seagulls were on the rocks near the beach, trying to feed onto the jumping small fishes.

The water of the sea was so clear that he could see the corals and small fishes swimming in it, from where he was standing.

“Where am I…?”

Myungsoo landed himself on an island, far away from where he came from. He doesn’t even know such islands existed near Korea oceans!

“No…” Myungsoo hated himself for being alive. “I should be dead.”

“I SHOULD BE DEAD! WHY DIDN’T YOU LET ME DIE!” He pointed up to the sky and roared angrily, “I SHOULD HAVE DIED SO I COULD FIND MY LOVE! JIYEON! JIYEON-AH!!!”

He cried in agony as he landed on his knees, onto the sandy beach.

“Why do you want to die?”

Myungsoo turned around abruptly, only to get a surprise himself.

Right in front of him, stood a girl, with the exact same duplication of Jiyeon’s features. “Jiyeon? It’s you! Jiyeon!”

Myungsoo turned elated immediately.

He couldn’t believe it.

Jiyeon was alive, and she was standing right in front of him!

So he ran up to her and engulfed her into a tight and lovely hug. Myungsoo buried his head into her hair and took a smell of her scent.

He had long forgotten about how she smelt since they never met up for such a long time.

But nonetheless, he liked this smell of hers.

It was sweet and enchanting.

Myungsoo could feel himself falling in love, all over again. “Thank goodness you didn’t die. Jiyeon-ah. You didn’t die!”

The girl in his arms pushed him away and frowned in confusion, “Who is Jiyeon?”

“Jiyeon! My love! It’s you!” Myungsoo laughed and grabbed her arms, trying to pull her closer to him since he was afraid she would be gone again. “It’s you!”

“No. I’m not Jiyeon. I’m Jikyung.” Jikyung smiled and looked at him, “I’m Lee Jikyung!”

“It can’t be!” Myungsoo shook his head and cupped her cheeks gently, “You’re lying to me, right? You’re trying to punish me, right? Jiyeon, don’t do this to me, please. I’m sorry! I’m sorry for whatever I’ve done to you! Please don’t do this to me!”

Jikyung grabbed his hands away from her face and shook her head sadly, “I’m Jikyung, for real.”

Myungsoo stumbled back in shock and landed onto the sandy beach again, this time, on his . “It can’t be…”

Jikyung frowned and looked at him sadly. “Erm… If you don’t mind, you can come and stay with me. I live alone and I think you have nowhere else to go, right?”

Myungsoo remained still in his position as he was trying to figure out what was going on.

“Jikyung?”

“Yes?”

“Do you really not know who Jiyeon is?”

Jikyung smiled sadly and shook her head, “I’m sorry.”

“But you looked exactly like her!”

Jikyung giggled and sat down by his side, “Well… I guess I do have a common face as your girlfriend then.”

“She’s not my girlfriend…” Myungsoo whispered solemnly, as he played with the sand on the beach.

“But I thought she was your love?”

“She was my love.” Myungsoo declared, “She was my love ever since I was 7. She was everything to me but I thought she loved somebody else. I did not fight for her and I let her go. That was stupid of me. I regretted so much. And now she’s gone.”

Jikyung frowned and patted his back gently, “Where did she go?”

“She died. She had a depression and she cut herself. It’s my fault. If it weren’t for me, she would still be alive. It was my fault.” Myungsoo soon turned into a crying mess as he hid his face into his palms.

Jikyung stayed by his side and patted his back lightly, “She will go to a good place. Don’t worry about her. I’m sure she will be happy. She chose that and I guess it was her last choice. She will be happy.”

Myungsoo sniffled and looked at her, “You think so?”

“I know so.” Jikyung smiled and wiped his tears away. “So, would you want to go to my house? How did you end up here anyway?”

“I attempted suicide when I was spreading her remains into the sea. But I got washed up here instead.”

Myungsoo took her hands when she held it out for him to take, and was being pulled up by her. “Where is this place?”

“It’s a small island and we only have a village here!” Jikyung held onto his hands and pulled him along with her, to the small village right beside the sea. “There! That’s our village.”

Myungsoo smiled as he looked at the small village from where he was standing, “It’s small.”

“But we have the friendliest people around here!” Jikyung cooed.

“Were you born here?”

Jikyung definitely heard that but she pretended not to. “Ah! Look at that halmeoni! I told her not to carry heavy stuffs and she continued doing it!” And she hopped over to the granny to get the basket over from her.

Myungsoo followed suit blankly and looked at what she did.

“Halmeoni! What did I say?!”

The granny smiled and willingly gave the basket of cucumbers to Jikyung when she asked for it, “But I can’t leave the vegetables alone in the farm, could I?”

“You can call for me, halmeoni!”

“But you were gone to who knows where!”

They bickered for a while longer before the granny spotted Myungsoo at the side. “Eo? Who is this, Jikyung-ah? Your boyfriend?”

Jikyung turned red and pushed her granny playfully, “Halmeoni~ I don’t have a boyfriend~”

“Psh. You should really get one. And I think this lad looks good!” Granny went up to Myungsoo and poked his arms. “He got the muscles!” And she cupped his face, “And he’s handsome, Jikyung-ah!”

Jikyung sighed and grabbed Myungsoo over to her side, “Halmeoni, don’t do that to him! He’ll feel awkward!”

“Oh-ho! Look at how protective you are now!” Granny teased and they finally reached her house.

“Bye granny! No more boyfriends speech and no more taking heavy things on your own, okay?”

“Okay okay!” Granny shooed her off and shook her head, “So naggy for a young kid! You should be my mother instead!”

Jikyung laughed happily as she heard that before she went off with Myungsoo. “You can just call her halmeoni too. Well, I call everyone halmeoni and harabeoji here~ And she owns the farm of cucumbers and cabbage.”

Myungsoo nodded his head and smiled slightly, “She’s friendly.”

“Yup. Like I said, everyone in the village is!”

And they met another granny along the way. “Jikyung-ah! Who’s that?”

“Halmeoni!” Jikyung ran up to her and hugged her tightly, “He’s my new friend! I found him by the beach! He got swept up by the waves!”

“Thank goodness.” Granny patted his back and smiled, “Go and change before you change a cold. Oh! Do you need boy’s clothes? I have some extra from the old man!”

“I can take it?” Jikyung cooed and clapped her hands happily, “Really, halmeoni?”

“Just wait for me here.”

Jikyung did as told as she held a bright grin on her face the whole time. “Halmeoni sure is nice. She’s giving you her husband’s clothes!”

Myungsoo smiled and nodded his head, “I think I will like it here.”

“Of course you will!” Jikyung beamed and took the clothes from granny when she returned. “Thank you, halmeoni! I’ll visit again, okay? I’ll just bring Myungsoo to settle in first!”

“Go on. Don’t catch a cold, son! The weather’s chilly!”

Jikyung smiled and dragged Myungsoo all the way to her house, which was located at the far end of the village.

Her house was huge, and she had a backyard which was linked to the beach. Myungsoo was indeed getting awe-struck by her house. “You live here? Where’s your parents?”

“Ah… They passed away long ago.”

Myungsoo scanned her house and indeed, there weren’t any photos of her family with her, nor did she have a portrait of herself. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t worry about it!” Jikyung smiled and pushed him into the bathroom as she passed a towel and his clothes to him, “Get washed up first! And we’ll talk about where you should sleep~”

Myungsoo did as told and had a great shower. “This actually feels nice… I guess it would be nice to live here too…”

Myungsoo returned to the living room, only to find her arranging the things in the only room in the house, which he assumed was hers.

“What are you doing?”

Jikyung stopped her movements and smiled brightly, waving him over, “I’ve cleared out some of the closet space for you and I’ve separated the towels for you and me to use! It’s clean so don’t worry! And we need to get the toiletries for you later! There’s a small mart down the road, in the main hall of the village!”

Myungsoo smiled and sat on the bed while staring at the closet, “You don’t have to do so much for me.”

“I have to!” Jikyung answered at once, which surprised him. “I mean… You will be my new roommate from now on. So I have to make you feel comfortable or I’ll be a bad owner. And you can sleep here with me! I don’t mind it!”

“But… you’re a girl!”

“It’s fine. I’m actually open-minded. But I will kick you away if you did something to me!”

Myungsoo shook his head rapidly, “I won’t take advantage of you! I swear!”

“I know.” Jikyung giggled and pulled him out to the living room. “Here, we have nothing but only a fireplace for you to rest, and a kitchen for you to cook. The only television we have is in the village hall. So if you want to watch the shows, you have to go to the hall.”

Myungsoo nodded his head in understanding, “It’s fine. I’m not much of a drama guy too.”

“Hmmm~ I know~” Jikyung sang as she skipped to the kitchen, which caused Myungsoo to be confused again. “You know?”

“Oh! I mean ‘I see’.” Jikyung laughed it off and waved him over to the kitchen. “What do you want for lunch? I bet you’re hungry!”

And his stomach did growl immediately.

Jikyung laughed happily and took a look into her fridge, “How about some bimbap? I can roll it and it’s fast!”

“Okay then.”

“Just wait for a little while alright?”
