“Noona!”

Jiyeon ignored his countless cries and walked ahead, but they boy wouldn’t give up easily. He ran up to her side and tugged her hand, pulling her to a stop.

“When will you snap out from your world? HUH?!”

Jiyeon simply looked at her, with the same blank expression.

“That bastard left you! He’s playing with you! So what?! You have to move on! You can’t stay like this forever! This means he wins!”

Jiyeon stared at him, said nothing.

“Come on, noona. Please return my old noona to me?”

He could see Jiyeon’s lips trembling.

Finally.

Finally she showed a reaction.

“Jungkook-ah…”

“Noona.” Jungkook smiled and pulled her into his arms. Even though he was younger, his built was way bigger than Jiyeon.

“I… I’m sorry…”

“It’s alright, noona.” Jungkook smiled sweetly as he her head. “You can’t let that bastard win like that. He played around with so many girls, and you’re just one of them. You saw it too, didn’t you? They cried and made a scene in front of him but he didn’t even care. He’s a jerk. Noona, you can’t do this or he’ll win. His motive was easy. He just wanted to see girls tearing themselves apart.”

“I know…”

“Then let’s not do this, alright? Return to the old noona I know. The fun and playful noona who goes out with me every day when school ends. Let’s show him you can live so much better even without him.”

Jiyeon smiled into his chest before pulling away, just to send him a sweet smile. “Thank you, Jungkook-ah.”

“It’s nothing, noona. You’re my noona since I was born. I have to take care of you from now on since you’d been taking care of me since forever. But you still have to spare me some allowances though~”

That was a joke. Jiyeon knew it, of course. She giggled happily, wiping her tears away. “Don’t worry. Leave your meals to noona.”

“That’s more like it!”

They shared a joyful laugh before walking out of the park they stopped at, to the main streets to get some snacks.

They loved eating.

Both of them.

And as such, Jiyeon would bring Jungkook around to so many places just to try their delicious food.

They exercised together too.

They just wanted to be healthy.

Jiyeon and Jungkook were a year apart, and they were both in high school now. Their parents were neighbours so they became friends easily when they were young.

Jiyeon took care of Jungkook like her own brother, while Jungkook looked up to Jiyeon like his own sister.

They looked so much like real siblings too.

Just two weeks ago, Jiyeon ran home, crying. That surprised Jungkook, and the adults, of course. She ran into her room, locked herself up, and cried the whole night. She doesn’t even allow Jungkook to enter.

The next day, Jungkook went to school alone since Jiyeon still wouldn’t exit from her room.

He knew why then.

Her boyfriend, Myungsoo – the school’s heartthrob – had a new girl in his arms.

He always knew Myungsoo wasn’t a good guy. He heard rumours around too, but since Jiyeon loved him so much, he let her be.

“Noona must be crying because she saw them huh?”

“Jiyeon unnie saw them yesterday.”

Jungkook jumped in surprise as he turned around abruptly. “Eo… Naeun!”

Naeun sighed as she sent countless glares to the new couple in a distance. “I saw it. Jiyeon unnie saw those two in the locker room, making out.”

Jungkook turned silent at the sudden news.

“Jiyeon unnie must felt so sad.”

“Yeah… She cried all the way home. She didn’t even come out from her room today.”

“Poor unnie.” Naeun sighed as she walked ahead. Jungkook snapped out from his senses and chased after her then. “Do you hate him?”

“Of course I do.”

“Why? Were you… a victim before?”

“Of course not. I wouldn’t even get close to that jerk.” Naeun hissed, “He played with my best friend before. And she couldn’t take it so she transferred school. I never once saw her again and she didn’t even contact me.”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine. I’m over her now. I’m just mad at that bastard.” Naeun smiled, “I hope Jiyeon unnie will be better soon.”

“Yeah. I hope so too.”

Naeun was Jungkook’s seatmate, and she was a junior of Jiyeon in the archery club. As such, they knew each other and often hanged out together.

Jungkook went to the classroom together with Naeun, and they started their lessons once again.

He returned home that noon, only to find Jiyeon still in her room.

He tried calling her out, but to no avail.

The following day, Jiyeon came out. But she was a changed person.

She wasn’t the carefree and bubbly person they used to know. She turned so cold and was so hard to approach.

Jungkook talked to her but she didn’t reply even one word.

After school, she returned home, not even bothering about the archery club.

Only two weeks later did Jungwook wake her up again. She returned to her senses and cried for the last time in Jungkook’s arms.

The next day, she returned.

The old Jiyeon returned.

Everyone was so happy for her – her parents, Jungkook’s parents, Jungkook, Naeun and even her classmates.

They were glad to see the old Jiyeon again.

Jiyeon decided. She will start her next part of life with a new beginning. She doesn’t even want to care about her ex-boyfriend now.

Jungkook was right.

If she was down, he will think he won and that made him happy while she was suffering.

Jiyeon didn’t want that.

Instead, she made herself all better, so she won’t have to suffer anymore.

Jiyeon held hands with Jungkook as they walked towards the school. She swung their hands happily about, beaming widely the whole time while eating a lollipop.

“Noona~”

“I’m happy.”

“I’m happy too!”

Right then, Myungsoo was walking to school too, but he was at the other side of the road. He was alone that morning, since he wanted to be left alone, and that was when his eyes caught Jiyeon and Jungkook at the other side.

He continued walking, having the same pace as them, but his eyes were on them the whole time.

“Noona~”

“Yeah?”

“Thank you for returning.”

Jiyeon smiled and ruffled his hair with her free hand, “It’s all thanks to you too, Jungkook-ah~”

Jungkook smiled brightly before swinging their interlocked hands again. “Noona~”

“Yeah?”

“Care to share your lollipop?”

“NO!” Jiyeon widened her eyes and shook her head firmly. She ran ahead, which made Jungkook chased after her in bliss.

Myungsoo saw the whole scene.

He even saw how Jungkook held her hand and shoved that lollipop into his own mouth.

Myungsoo saw it.

And surprisingly, he felt a hard sting in his heart.

It was weird.

It was the first time he felt something so strong too.

What could it be?

No, it wasn’t because of Jiyeon being happy just after two weeks he broke up with her. No, it wasn’t because of that.
