“Yes, mother. I’m here.”

“My king.” His mother cooed and waved him to her, “Come here, please.”

“Mother.” He moved towards her as told and held her arms to move her to the table. “What did you ask me for?”

“I want you to marry the princess of Sun Kingdom.”

“Mother!”

“You have to, my king.” His mother demanded. “You know it too. You have to marry the princess since it’s a promise between your father and her father.”

“But mother-”

“Please do it, my king. I’m sick too and I can’t live long. I want to see you happy and see my grandchild before I go.”

“Yes, mother.”

“That’s my king.”

Myungsoo waited in his room for the right time to get out.

“My king! It’s time to go out for the ceremony!”

Myungsoo opened the door and looked at his eunuch. “Everything is ready?”

“Yes, my king.”

Myungsoo walked ahead and his bodyguards followed suit. They hurried down to the main hall and met his mother there.

“Mother.”

“My king. You’re here. Stand over there. Your wife will be here soon.”

Myungsoo obeyed.

He never once disobeyed his mother and that was how filial he was. But with his personal eunuch, he could be whatever he wanted to. “When will she be arriving?”

His eunuch looked around and finally, “Now!”

Myungsoo looked ahead too, only to find the princess wearing the wedding attire, walking into the main hall with her maids by her side.

They helped her down the aisle and finally, she reached Myungsoo’s side.

Myungsoo’s mother said all the instructions and the couple did it together. It took them the whole noon indeed. That was how long one wedding took – needless to say a royal wedding.

The celebration ended late at night and Myungsoo was being thrown back into his room with his new bride. Maids and eunuchs were told to stay away from the room for the whole night too.

Yes, it’s for them to be as one.

But well, since they didn’t know each other at all, nothing happened.

Myungsoo sat on the stool by his dining table while his bride sat on the bed. “What’s your name?”

“Jiyeon. Park Jiyeon.”

Myungsoo looked straight into her eyes only to find innocence in it. “Do you know why we are even in this room?”

“Of course! We’re husband and wife now and we’re supposed to be making a child.”

Myungsoo almost choked on his spit. “Who told you that?!”

“My mother! She said we will be making a child on the first night of our wedding!”

“But I won’t do it.” Myungsoo declared his stand. “We don’t know each other and I don’t love you. I won’t do anything to you.”

Jiyeon looked at him and showed him a wide beam. “Okay!”

“Great.” Myungsoo nodded his head. “We’re just sleep tonight, okay?”

“Sure!” Jiyeon cooed, “But can I take off this costume? It’s really heavy and my hair too.” Jiyeon pouted while waving her sleeves about. “Even the sleeves are heavy!”

Myungsoo looked at her and smiled inwardly. *Like a child.*

“Fine then. Take only your costume off.” Myungsoo announced and she took off her outer layer immediately.

“AHH~ This feels more comfortable!” She ran over to the dining area and sat by his side. “Can you help me take down the hair accessories? I can’t reach or see them at all.”

Without thinking much, Myungsoo helped. He stood behind her and took all accessories out from her hair. “This is so heavy. How could you even put it for the whole day?”

“I have to! And we’re trained to do this too. It’s sad, isn’t it?”

“Yes, it sure is.” Myungsoo her soft hair before patting it lightly. “Go to sleep. It’s late.”

Jiyeon jumped over to the bed and slipped her legs under the blanket, but he stood by the bed side looking at her blankly. “What are you doing? Come and sleep too!”

Myungsoo was a king, and he needed a good sleep since it was a long day.

Without thinking much again, he slipped into the blanket and lay right by her side. “I won’t do anything to you so don’t be worried. We’ll just sleep.”

“I got it!” Jiyeon beamed as she lay on her side, looking at him cutely.

“Sleep.”

“I can’t!”

“Why?”

“I need someone to sing me to sleep! My maid always sing me to sleep back in my state.” Jiyeon giggled, “Oh! And how do I call you now? Husband? My king? Or do I call you by your name? Myungsoo?”

Myungsoo was slightly amazed by her questions. She was really a girl with lots of questions, seeking so many answers.

“You can call my anything but in front of others, you have to call me king. Got it?”

“Yes, Myungsoo!” Jiyeon giggled and leaned nearer to him.

“What are you doing?”

“Aren’t you going to sing me to sleep, Myungsoo?”

Myungsoo looked at her eyes and gave in at once. “My voice isn’t nice so if it’s bad, don’t blame me.”

He lay on his side, facing her too, and opened his mouth to sing immediately.

He saw as Jiyeon closed her dreamy eyes and started falling asleep. When he confirmed she was deep in sleep, he stopped singing and stared at her face.

“It’s not a bad idea to marry you I guess.” He her cheeks and smiled sweetly. “I have a new companion too.”

The next day arrived so fast.

Myungsoo opened his eyes only to find his bed empty. “Jiyeon?” He looked around and frowned when the sun caught his eyes, through the translucent window.

Myungsoo stood up from the bed and saw plates of dishes on the table.

The door soon opened and Jiyeon came in with the last tray of food. “Myungsoo, you’re up!”

“Did you make all of this?”

“Yes!” She gave the tray to her maid and asked them to get out before hurrying over to Myungsoo. “Come and eat breakfast!” She even dragged him over to the table.

He took a seat and took a smell of the food. “It smells nice, and looks nice too.”

“Then try it!”

Jiyeon waited patiently for his verdict, and she got so happy when Myungsoo gave her a thumbs up. “That’s awesome! I’m so happy you like it!”

Jiyeon danced around the room before stopping by his side again.

“Sit down too. Eat with me.”

Jiyeon did as told and sat down by his side, taking her utensils just to eat the food too.

Myungsoo looked at her happy face and was glad he didn’t marry a wrong girl. He was secretly thanking his late father too – for the promise he made with her father.

After they had finished their breakfast, Jiyeon helped Myungsoo with the king’s attire and sent him off to the main hall since he has to work.

It took him whole day to finish looking through the papers and matters of his state.

And he realized he wanted it to end quickly so he could see her, his wife.

When everything was finally done, Myungsoo hurried out of the main hall and brisk walked towards their room.

But along the way, she caught his eyes since she was in the garden.
