“Jiyeon-ah, come home after school tonight.”

Jiyeon rolled her eyes as she played with her hair, leaning against the wall by the window, “Why, omma? I have somewhere else to go.”

“Just come home straight.”

And the call ended.

That was how the relationship in the Park family was. Cold.

Jiyeon’s parents were always cold to her, ever since young. They taught her what to do as a wealthy businessman’s daughter, and taught her not to go astray.

But she still did in the end.

Jiyeon had bad experiences before, and on top of it, her parents treated her as though she was a tool, not their daughter.

As such, she decided to rebel instead.

But no matter what, her parents’ words were the final say.

If they said she had to go home after school straight away, she had to. Or else she will have to face the consequences of being locked up for a week.

She tried it before, and she never once wanted to try it ever again.

She defied her parents’ order years ago, ignoring their order, and once she reached home, she was being locked in her room for one whole week.

She can’t even step out of her room for a second.

That was how strict her parents were, and somewhat cruel.

They thought it was the best way to teach their daughter. That was their way of teaching their daughter manners.

Of course, to Jiyeon, they were just her parents in words, nothing more, nothing less. She had no feelings for them at all.

Jiyeon chucked her phone back into her handbag and walked out of the classroom, deciding to quit the lesson for the rest of the day.

She headed up to the rooftop, trying to get her mind cleared, only to find someone else on it.

“Yah, you.”

The guy turned around at once.

“Oh, it’s you.”

Jiyeon scoffed and walked up to the bench against the wall, sitting down at once.

“Hi.”

Jiyeon, of course, ignored him.

“Hi, Jiyeon.”

“Don’t talk to me, nerd.”

The nerd sighed and took a seat on the same bench, a few meters away from her, “Why did you skip lesson?”

Jiyeon turned her head with her arms crossed, letting out a smirk, “I didn’t know nerd skip lessons too.”

“I just felt like it. And I’m not a nerd.”

“You’re wearing thick spectacles. You’re smart. You’re teacher’s pet. Not a nerd? Don’t make me laugh, Kim Myungsoo.”

Myungsoo let out a small smile instead, “You knew my name. See! I’m not a nerd.”

Jiyeon simply rolled her eyes and turned back to the front, before closing them, “Don’t talk to me, nerd. My head hurts now and I don’t need any disturbance.”

Myungsoo turned silence at once.

But he was staring at her the whole time. *She’s really beautiful. But her personality, really…*

“Stop staring at me, nerd.”

“I’m not.”

“You are.”

“How would you know when you have your eyes closed?”

“Sixth sense.”

Myungsoo chuckled instead, “Sixth sense!”

“Woman’s sixth sense is strong, nerd. Didn’t you learn that?!”

Myungsoo heard it before, of course, but he didn’t know a queenka like her would use it as an excuse. “Yeah I did.”

“I told you to stop talking, didn’t I?”

“But you were the one talking to me.”

Jiyeon hissed and held her arm up, wanted to smack him, but he didn’t flinch. Jiyeon brought her arm back to her side, hissing once more, “Let me rest my mind, nerd. Don’t talk to me even if I talk to you.”

Indeed, he kept silence again.

“Didn’t I tell you not to stare at me?”

Silence.

Jiyeon opened her eyes and looked at him, “Yah. I’m talking to you!”

Myungsoo simply shook his head and zipped his mouth up, but he had a smile on his face.

Jiyeon couldn’t believe it. *How could someone be so irritating?!* She kept mum again, and this time round, she didn’t speak anymore.

But without realizing, this was actually the first time Jiyeon spoke to someone this long, without getting angry at them.

Jiyeon opened her eyes when the bell rang, signifying the end of the day, and automatically, her head turned to her right, searching for the nerd.

He was gone.

Instead, he left a note.

Jiyeon picked the sticky note up and stared at it, “Nice talking to you, Jiyeon! Hope to talk to you again.”

Jiyeon simply chucked the note into her bag, not caring it at all, and returned back home.

“WHAT?! ARRANGED MARRIAGE?!”

“Yes, and do not shout in front of us, Jiyeon.”

Jiyeon took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down as she sat back down onto the couch. “I’m not going to get married. I’m only 20 for God’s sake!”

“But you’re born in a wealthy family, and in a wealthy family, you have to do as your parents say. Your husband is good too. He’s handsome and smart. But most importantly, it will help our company. We’re merging with them after your wedding is over.”

“I don’t agree. It’s my marriage, not yours!”

“No second word from you, Park Jiyeon. It’s an order. Don’t you ever run away before the wedding or I’ll kick you out of this house. Don’t you ever think of surviving in Korea if you do that.”

That was harsh. So harsh.

Jiyeon had no choice again.

She was only 20. What could she do when she run away? She had no help too. No one would help her.

Yes, she met many guys in club, but they’re all jerks who wanted her body and money. No one would actually help her.

“Fine. When is the wedding.”

“Next Friday. Everything will be done for you.”

“Who is the groom.”

“You will see him next Friday.”

That was it. Their conversation ended there, and Jiyeon returned to her room, losing appetite for dinner too.

“They just had to do it. They just had to ruin my life.”

She can’t do anything but to admit to her pitiful life. Everything was done for her. They brought the food to and fed her. She hated it.

She wanted to be independent. She wanted to be alone. She wanted to have a life.

But she can’t.

That was her fate.

Jiyeon wasn’t born this way though. She was a cute and bubbly girl when she was young. Innocent and pure, pretty and elegant.

But when her boyfriend, whom she loved dearly, cheated on her and got caught, she lost it. She hated man ever since.

She was deeply hurt before.

Adding the pressure from her parents, she couldn’t take it and rebelled. She became a play girl. She went to clubs often, throw money in the air for the people, slept with countless of man, just to annoy her parents.

She wasn’t like this before, but things happened, and she changed.

The next day, Jiyeon walked up to the rooftop after lunch ended, again, and there he was. The nerd. “Why are you still here, nerd?”

“I always skip second half of the lesson.” Myungsoo shrugged his shoulder, as if nothing was wrong.

“Why?”

“They’re just… boring. I’ve learnt them before too.”

“You’re really a nerd huh?”

“I’m just smart. It doesn’t mean I’m a nerd.” Myungsoo dared retort back, which made Jiyeon further amused.

No one had talked back to her before since she was the popular kid in school.

But he, the nerd, did it.

And she felt refreshing. She felt new. She felt different.

“But in my eyes, you’re just a nerd.”

“That’s just in your opinion then. I’m sure in my opinion, I’m not a nerd.”

Jiyeon gave up. “Fair enough.” She walked over to her usual bench and sat down again, closing her eyes as she crossed her arms, just to keep calm.

“Why do you come up nowadays? You didn’t do it before.”

“Don’t talk to me.”

“Alright, queen.”

“What did you just call me?”

Myungsoo shook his head, acting as though he said nothing. “Go to sleep, Jiyeon. I’ll just sit here and do nothing.”

“Don’t even stare at me.”

“Okay.”

But he did.

His eyes were on her the whole time again. *You’re so beautiful, Park Jiyeon. When will I ever get into your heart?*

Yes, it was love at first sight.

Ever since he laid his eyes on her, his heart was thumping like crazy, telling him to get closer to her. But he just couldn’t.

As she said, he was the nerd, and she was a popular kid. How will they ever match?

No way.

He was satisfied with these small bickering in the rooftop, which he had already called it their ‘secret place’.

Again, he left her a note again.

“We talked again! Park Jiyeon, let’s talk next time!”

Jiyeon chucked the note into her bag, again, and walked back home, having no feel to head to club anymore.

Next Friday arrived, much to her dismay.

She skipped school that day, as ordered by her parents, and she found herself being pulled around by all the artists who were trying to make her the prettiest bride ever.

But she had no interest in that.

She let them pulled and pushed her around, and finally, she ended up in a church, in a wedding gown.

It was beautiful, the dress, she had to admit.

But she wasn’t happy.

How could she be happy when she had to marry someone she never once saw before? What if he’s ugly? What if he’s old? What if he’s a ert old man?

Jiyeon let out a long sigh before walking over to the main door, where her father was standing. “Smile, Jiyeon. Don’t make me lose face.”

And she smiled immediately when the door opened.

Obedient, yes. She had no choice.

Jiyeon had her head lowered the whole time, until she reached the altar. She finally braved her courage up, and tilted her head upwards.

Her eyes widened at once.

“Nerd…”

Myungsoo smiled even wider and took her arm in his, and she simply followed blindly to his actions. “You…”

“Look to the front, Jiyeon.”

She did as told, too shoc
