“Hey, Seokjin, you are joining our company dinner today?”

Looking up away from his laptop, the department manager was standing at the head of his desk. Company dinner for him was like a ritual event that should be processed at the end of the week. The manager called it a gift dinner, but the truth is he never paid as he got drunk in the middle of the dinner causing a scene and then pass out. In the end, the loser of rock paper scissor paid for everything. A bad for the dude.

Everyone wanted to avoid this gift dinner, but no one dared to say no. Like ever.

“Of course.” Awkward laughter, a clearing throat, Seokjin wished to disappear. He remembered how last time he lost and paid for 15-person dinner, which almost coasted him all of his salaries. It was more like a punishment dinner that you couldn’t escape. Lucky, he was a guy who knew how to save money.

“Namjoon, you are coming this time no excuses?” The manager said in a warning tone.

“Sorry, Cannot,” Namjoon said as he closed his computer and started to collect his stuff. “I have to leave now.”

No one dared to say no except for him. Kim Namjoon.

Seokjin caught himself smiling. It was only for a short time before he looked away from Namjoon. He admired the guy so much. He was smart, hardworking, and the only one who could say no and drove the manager crazy.

However, curiosity was getting the best of Seokjin. He wondered why he never joined the “gift dinner” before. Was he that scared to pay for the dinner?

Well, it wasn’t a secret that the manager never paid. Rumors were easily spreading.

“Seriously, Namjoon, you should learn from him.” The manager pointed at Seokjin, shaking his head. Namjoon looked at him following the manager’s finger. Seokjin gave a small smile, before looking away embarrassed. He wasn’t sure if it was something to be proud of. “He always joins our gift dinner. It is something I do for you, not me. I want the atmosphere here in the office to be friendly. We are one family.”

“Sorry I still cannot,” Namjoon said firmly.

“Do you have a girlfriend?” The manager suddenly asked.

Seokjin looked up from under his glasses, suddenly interested. Could it be that he had a girlfriend? Is that why he never joined them?

“That’s personal sir, I don’t wish to share with you.”

Even though Seokjin really wanted to know, he couldn’t help but smile at his answer. That guy knew how to make the manager angry and he kind of enjoyed it.

“Girls come and go. You should join us, the family doesn’t go away.”

“It is still a no sir.”

Groaning, the manager rolled his eyes as he walked away and to his desk at the end of the huge room.

“You know how to get on his nerves,” Seokjin commented without looking away from the screen.

Namjoon joined the company and was assigned to the accounting department three months ago. He kept his relationship with neutral professional business-ship with all of his co-workers. He left home early, never shared anything about his personal life and when it was break time, he always disappeared somewhere. Never joined lunch in the cafeteria with them and never was engaged in an affair of any co-worker.

Yet his presence was huge, as he was the smartest. He had done an amazing job for a short time, that everyone wondered why he left his previous company (which was a well-known company) and joined a small company like this. If he stayed in his previous company, he could have been promoted to a team manager or director position.

“I don’t mean to get on his nerves. He has to accept that not everyone’s schedule fits him.” Namjoon said, stopping midway before reaching the exit door. He turned and looked at Seokjin.

Seokjin couldn’t help but stare at Namjoon. Something about him pulled Seokjin to him. Namjoon was tall. Almost as tall Seokjin. Maybe even taller by a couple of inches. There was a faint of a dimple of his cheeks. If only he smiled, Seokjin wondered how he would look like when smiling. He wanted to know more about him, he wanted to be his friend.

“Then when are you free? Let’s grab coffee sometime that fit your schedule.” Seokjin asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Probably never.”

“That’s mean. I am probably sure we will get a chance to have coffee together.” Seokjin smiled. He knew it because he felt it. Since Namjoon joined the department there was something about him that Seokjin could not ignore.

“Well, I don’t think so.”

“Well, we will see.” His smile widened, at which Namjoon rolled his eyes at and left the office.

Jin shook his head, the smile was still there, stretched from ear to ear. He tried to stop smiling but failed. He cannot believe he found Namjoon cute.

If anything, Jin hated it was moving from apartment to another. The process was just killing him. Moving all his stuff, climbing the stairs. Why did this building not have a damn elevator?
