When he cheers you up

It was late and you were aware of the fact that you should have been asleep hours ago. Yet here you were, spread out on the mattress, staring up at the ceiling. You’d expected that today would have caused you to feel exhausted and you’d fall asleep as soon as your head would hit the pillow. But your thoughts were running round and round in spirals and there didn’t seem to be anything you could do in order to stop them. The past few weeks had been so busy you’d barely had the time to think about anything that was currently going on in your life. You’d been running from concerts to fashion shows on other continents, back to giving interviews in your home country. These past few days everything everything had been revolving around your new album with would be airing next month. Photoshoots were held and choreography was being practiced intensely. Each night you came hope grateful that you were finally able to give your feet some rest before you’d have to get up again the next morning to do the same all over again.

When you’d first started as a solo artist you’d always thought of it as something fun, after all you didn’t need to adjust yourself to someone else and you could simply do as you wished. All your music was your own and described your feelings. You didn’t need to change any harmonies or any lyrics simply because your band members didn’t enjoy them. No, everything you created was your own and you were proud of your work. Yet, it did mean that you had to take care of everything by yourself too. Of course you had an amazing team and the best crew, but there was no one who could record your songs for you or who could learn your choreography. You had to do all of it by yourself and these past few years the responsibility seemed to have become bigger and bigger. The longer you were by yourself the more lonely you seemed to become. You missed having someone to talk to at night, after concerts or when you were going through a hard time. It wasn’t like you didn’t have any friends, but it wasn’t the same. Unlike artists who had band members you didn’t have anyone who lived the exact same life as you did. There didn’t seem to be anyone who fully understood what you were going through.

You shut your eyes, hoping that it would help push away your thoughts so that your mind could become blank and you’d finally be able to get some sleep. You knew that if you wouldn’t you’d be in a terrible mood tomorrow morning, and the last thing you wanted was to cause your crew any harm. Noise coming from downstairs caused your attention to be drifted elsewhere. Turning sideways your eyelids fluttered open so you could check the time. It was 2 a’clock, probably the latest he had come home in a long time. This told you that today wasn’t the best day for you to burden him with your problems. Each night he came home late promised that he’d had a rough day at work, and you knew that he didn’t need for you to add any more stress to the pile which was already resting on his shoulders. Instead you focused yourself on the steady sound of his footsteps which resounded through the apartment after he’d shut the front door. His socks seemed to be gliding across the tiles, addressing his exhaustion. A door opened and closed, and you waited a few heartbeats before you could hear the sound of streaming water ring through the air. He was in the bathroom, taking a quick shower. It wouldn’t take long before he’d crawl under the covers with you.

Perhaps after that you’d finally be able to find your peace. Recalling the moment you had met Baekhyun was the same as if thinking about a moment which had just gone by. It was as if the two of you had met last night and you were still as fond of him as you had been at the very start. You’d been new in the industry, while Baekhyun had already been an idol for two years. You were the rookie, and you had been extremely flustered in his company. While you’d been in the waiting room, getting ready for your second performance ever, he’d walked into you. You’d been in a terrible mood that day, having been flooded with negative comments the day before. Your first stage hadn’t gone unnoticed by the public, and everyone had agreed on the fact that you had seemed to be lacking something. The truth was that you had been ting yourself. Even though you had been trained to get into the industry for many years, nothing could have prepared you for your first concert. All the burning stares and curious glances had made you feel extremely uncomfortable and you had been trembling is hard that you’d almost been unable to hold your microphone. And so you had been sitting there, even more stressed out than the first time, afraid to do something that would make the public dislike you even more, when he had walked up to you and had cracked a joke.

At first you hadn’t even known how to r
