You smiled at your friend as she went on and on about this guy she had met during a party. She hadn’t dated anyone for years, she was the type that always hooked up with a guy for a night or two and then moved on to the next one. You believed that she had a problem connecting herself to other people, especially to men. You knew how much her freedom meant to her and she was afraid that a relationship would take that away from her and would lock her up in a cage from which she wouldn’t be able to escape. You knew that she was wrong and you wanted to tell her to put yourself over it, but you weren’t the perfect example and you surely weren’t in the position to judge her. The last time you had been in a relationship had been 5 years ago, but could that even be called a real relationship? A bit of hand holding and whispering in each other’s ear…

It was hard to believe that the two of you were this different, in so many kind of ways. But she was your best friend and you loved her, no matter what. You stared down the field, watching the guys playing a soccer game to pass the lunch break. The weather was great for the time of the year and even though it wasn’t even that hot outside, you could still see those guys sweat running down their foreheads.You weren’t sure if you had to find that attractive or extremely gross. “Stop staring, they’ll feel your eyes drill into their backs.” Suzy said beside you, cutting off her talk as she noticed that you weren’t paying attention to her anymore and quickly saw what you were interested in instead. “Why don’t you confess to him already?” She sang in a teasing tone and you shot her a glare before your eyes slipped to that one person on the field that actually looked hot in all of that sweat. 

Byun Baekhyun was quite a popular guy on this school, a lot of girls liked him and he had lots of friends. If you remembered it correctly, he was single at the moment. He and his ex girlfriend broke up a few months ago, because she was extremely possessive and jealous. He couldn’t even look at another girl and she would be on his case, saying that he would surely cheat on her, that she could see it in his eyes. You couldn’t believe girls like that still existed, those who tried to lock their boyfriends up in their houses and wanted to keep them all to themselves. If you thought about that you began to understand Suzy better and her fear of having a boyfriend. It was of course the luck of finding the right person, of finding someone who would allow you to have the freedom everyone deserved, even while being in a relationship. Baekhyun looked a lot happier now that he wasn’t with her anymore, and you had to admit that it suited him, that wonderful smile that was always glued onto his face.

You and Suzy were both awakened from your daze as suddenly a ball came your way and you both dived aside, trying not to get it straight into your faces. Guys were always so careless while playing a game. He was walking up to you, a teasing smile plastered on his face as he stopped in front of you and kneeled down to your level. “Can I have that back please?” It seemed as if he was asking this very politely, but you knew so much better than that. You squeezed your eyes at him and shot him a destroying look before grabbing the ball and smashing it against his chest. “You idiot, can’t you watch out where you kick it?” You said and you could see that your anger was only making him even more amused. He clenched the ball with his arms and sat in front of you for a moment, only to stare at you. Some people would faint having Byun Baekhyun sit in front of them like that, but your hand started tingling because it wanted to collide with his face. 

“Well you have a nice day __________-ah.” He said playfully and even added the most y wink ever behind it, but you ignored it completely. You watched him as he walked back to his friends and saw how he looked back at you out of the corner of his eye, a goofy smile spread all over his face. “I don’t get you.” Suzy said as she leaned back in the grass and enjoyed the sun shining on her face. You didn’t say anything and just remained staring at Baekhyun, trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Baekhyun and you had known each other since the two of you had been kids, you were neighbors and your parents were friends. When you had been kids you had always been together on birthdays and other special occasions and your parents had always hoped that Baekhyun and you would also turn out to be great friends, so that you could continue the band between the two families. 

But since you had been small Baekhyun had had the biggest fun in teasing you and in humiliating you. But since you weren’t the type of person who’d surrender because of something like that, you did the exact same thing and you did everything you could to annoy him. You couldn’t even count the things you had already done to each other over the past eighteen years you had known each other, but what you did know was that he had become your real enemy, your rival. You’d be so angry if you’d find out he had played a joke on you and you’d always make sure to make him pay for it later. That was how the two of you lived with each other, ruining each others life and having fun with it. It was clear that it had been Baekhyun’s purpose to kick this ball into your direction and you were sure that he had meant to actually hit your head instead of you diving away on time. 

This made that now it was your turn to take the lead, you’d make sure that you’d plan something before the end of the day to make him pay for what he had tried to do to you. The bell rang and you saw how the guys ended their game, discussing about who had won as they walked towards the entrance of the building. “I thought you liked him.” Suzy continued, not leaving the topic alone as the two of you gathered your stuff and made yourself ready to get to class. You rolled your eyes at her and you didn’t feel like talking about it, why did it always have to be about him? “It’s not like that. Things are more complicated between the two of us.” You said and Suzy sniffed beside you before swinging her back over her shoulder sad starting to walk towards the school building. “I think the two of you would make a great couple, you two would always have fun together. And I think that even though Baekhyun likes to bully you, he’d never let anyone else come near you.” 

You shook your head, already before she had finished talking and told yourself that you didn’t want to listen to this. You weren’t going to let her try and talk this into your head. Yes, Baekhyun was definitely your type, he was hot and he could handle your tough personality, which wasn’t something that many could. He was funny, and you were sure that his parents wouldn’t dislike you. People who wouldn’t know the real situation between the two of you would actually think that the two of you would make a good pair, but you knew much better than that. You were scared that the two of you wouldn’t be on the same level about things and that the only thing you’d do would be fighting.
