It was another cold day in February, it was raining today. For one reason or another you always felt at ease when it started raining, you felt as if the weather was being sad with you and it made you feel as if you weren’t the only one feeling like this today. You sighed as you stepped away from the window and got back onto your chair at the kitchen table. Your mother was making you breakfast, just like she did every single morning, it was no different than others. Just like the other times she didn’t talk to you, she was too busy answering her texts on her phone and calling back to her clients. Your mother was a very good lawyer, which meant she was always very busy and didn’t have any time for family moments, moments like making breakfast for her daughter and having a chat. She put down your plate with your toast in front of you and then got out of the kitchen, making sure she wouldn’t be intruded. 

That was how it had been going for the past few years, that was what your life looked like. Your father had died a few years ago, he had been a soldier in the army and had given up his life for his country. It seemed like yesterdays when those solders had been standing in front of your door, holding his flag and the letter that pronounced him dead, he had died in war. For most people he was a hero, for you he was an idiot, because he hadn’t stayed over here with his family, where he had supposed to be. Ever since then your mother had thrown herself into her job, to hide her sadness and use it to make success and money. A few months ago she had met this guy, called Jin, he was a few years younger then her and she had introduced him to you as her boyfriend. Back then you hadn’t been sure what to think of it, but now you had figured out that you didn’t like the guy, after all he was trying to steal your father’s spot in the family. 

You looked down on your toast which was barely eatable because it was almost burned, she never asked you how you liked your toast. You sighed and looked out of the big window, there was most of the times nothing to see. But today seemed to start differently then those other days had done, because today there was some movement on the driveway next to your house. The house next to you had been empty for a very long time, the family had moved to a different country, because the father had gotten a promotion. The kids hadn’t been happy about leaving, and neither had you, after all those kids had been your play mates and when they had left you had no one else left. With a curious expression you peeped out of the window, trying to figure out what was going on and who was there. You remembered your mom telling you that the house had finally been sold, it had taken a while because the price had been much too high. 

At the driveway you saw a woman and two men, they were discussing something with each other while they were surrounded by boxes. It was clear that they were moving into their new house today and that there was still a lot that had to be taken care of. You figured that one of those two guys was their son, but they both had the same height so it was hard for you to see that from here. Actually you shouldn’t be spying on them like that, it was impolite, but you couldn’t stop your curiosity. It had been a very long time since you had still had neighbors and you just couldn’t believe that there was finally a family moving in here. You were about to let go of this whole situation and eat up your toast when suddenly one of the two men turned around and looked straight at you. He had just caught you sneaking at them, which made your head turn red like a tomato, you liked to stare at people but you didn’t like it when they noticed you doing that. 

You could see how he started to smile at you and how he lifted his hand to wave at you, but you quickly turned your head and made sure that your face was covered by your hair. You grabbed your plate and stood up from the table, quickly disappearing into behind the wall so that he could no longer see you.
