When you have the measles

The past few days had been horrifying and you could only hope that you wouldn’t have to deal with this torture for much longer. You had been sure you had been vaccinated against this, but apparently you had been seriously wrong. If you had known this any sooner then you would have done something about it, but now the only option you had was to live through it, no matter how horrible that was. A deep and trembling cough filled the room and your throat felt like sandpaper, your breathing was scratching against the sides. It had started four days ago, with a few red dots that had magically appeared behind the shelves of your ears. They had been so itchy, but you thought that it had been some kind of rash, so you hadn’t given it any attention. But a few hours later your whole body had been covered by those small red dots, which were hurtful and annoying. Baekhyun had dragged you towards a doctor, scared that something bad was happening to you, and to both of your astonishment he had told you that you were dealing with the measles. You knew you had never been through the illness when you had been a child, but you had never thought that you were still capable of getting it. Immediately the doctor had told you to lock yourself up inside of a room in your house where you had everything you needed and to make sure not to have contact with anyone who hadn’t been through the disease just yet. Baekhyun had looked at you with big eyes and at that moment you had already known what he had been trying to tell you without him saying it out loud. Your boyfriend had never had the measles yet, and he wasn’t vaccinated, which left him off limits.

The worst part of being locked up inside of your house probably wasn’t the fact that you felt like pure , but that you weren’t able to see the person you wanted to see most. Baekhyun and you barely got to spend any time together because of his busy schedule and now that he was finally home you had to get sick. The two of you spoke together over the phone and even though he was staying with his other members at his dorm and he wasn’t that far away from your apartment, he couldn’t come over. Each day your best friend and your parents would pass by to companion you, your mom would even bring you food every evening. But you couldn’t bring yourself to eat much, you were just feeling so horrible that you couldn’t keep it in. You had been ill before, but it had never been like this. How many times had you already told yourself that you shouldn’t scratch those red spots, while you just couldn’t stop yourself? “Let’s check your temperature.” Amber said as she began to hobble over to you with a thermometer inside of her hands. It was so nice from her that she wanted to stay with you, even though you weren’t very conscious and you were sleeping most of the times. She had offered up her free days and had even stayed home from her classes in order to stay with you, you honestly couldn’t have wished for a better best friend than her. She took great care of you, she had even made you some hot chicken soup earlier in the hope to make you feel better, but it had been left in vein. When she stopped beside you, you turned your head to the side and just let her do her thing. While she stuck the cap inside of your ear you tried not to think of how hot your body was feeling while being trapped underneath all the layers of blankets. ‘Sweat it out’ that was what people always said, but you were wondered if you could ever sweat too much.

“Thirty nine point three, jeez, you’re burning up.” She muttered but the doctor had warned you for this. He had told you that you could be bothered by some really bad and high fevers, which could leave you dehydrated. Almost as if she could read your mind Amber reached for the glass of water which was standing on the salon table and waited penitently until you had been able to pull your arm free out of your cocoon so that you could take it from her. The walls of your bedroom had started to bore you, so you had replaced yourself towards the living room. You had been laying on the couch ever since and only stood up if you didn’t have any other choice. In the beginning you had been filling nauseous and you had been throwing up, luckily for you though those symptoms had passed. Now you were left with big headaches, none stop itching and the feeling that you were partly dead. The only thought that kept you from going crazy was that it would all be over soon a
