Junhyung’s POV

“Let’s go there!” She suddenly said as we were walking.

“Where?” I asked.

“There!” She said, running and dragging me along.

“What are we doing here?” I asked, looking around.

We were at a playground. She climbed up to the roof of the playhouse.

“Come on, we’re too old for this.” I said, waving for her to come down.

She pouted and looked down.

“Why?” I asked.

“This place is special. And, we were never too old for this.” She mumbled.

“But it’s cold.” I said.

“Cold had no effect on us.” She said.

I felt a little awkward being here honestly. I am a public figure and moreover, I turn 23 this year. What would it seem like if I was caught playing in the playground? And, how is a playground special? It is special for kids, but definitely not for us, right?

“But…” I mumbled.

“Alright.” She said, climbing down.

Why do I feel so guilty seeing her so upset?

“Okay, let’s play.” I said.

“Really?!” She turned to me, eyes beaming like never before.

“But put this on.” I said, putting my scarf over her neck.

“I don’t understand, aren’t you cold?” I asked.

“No. I have enough fats.” She smiled, running off to the roof.

“Yah! Be careful!” I yelled.

I was about to climb up when she stopped me.

“Why?” I asked.

“Sing for me.” I said.

“Sing? Here? Now?” I asked, surprised.

She nodded.

“Erm…” I bit my lower lip.

I started singing On Rainy Days since it was the first song that came into my head.

“No no no!” She said.

“Huh?” I looked at her, confused.

“IU’s You and I!” She smiled.

“WHAT!?” I exclaimed.

“Come on! You know how to do it!” She said, clapping.

“I don’t know!” I whined.

“You know! Come on! Please!” She pouted.

“No no no! Another one.” I said.

“I only want that!” She insisted.

“I can’t do it! It’s so high, the pitch!” I said.

“It’s alright then.” She said, smiling, but I knew she wasn’t happy.

She turned around and slide down, heading towards the swing.

“Are you angry?” I asked, poking her arm.

She shook her head, looking down.

“I’ll sing you another song, okay?” I coaxed her.

She shook her head.

“It’s okay, really.” She looked up at me and smiled, but I could see tears forming in her eyes.

Why did she insist me on singing that song? Did it have something to do with our relationship?

“Let’s go.” She mumbled, getting off the swing.

She walked in front of me, no matter how I try to catch up with her, she seemed to be always three steps faster.

“Wait up.” I said, running after her.

She stopped and let me catch up with her.

I grabbed her arm and turned her to face me.

“Why are you crying!?” I yelled in shock as I saw her tears flowing down like nobody’s business.

“I’m not crying. Something got into my eye.” She said, wiping away her tears.

“Bloody dust.” She mumbled, walking off.

“Haneul!” I shouted.

“Go home.” She said suddenly.

“Huh?” I looked at her.

“Go home.” She repeated herself.

“I thought.. you were taking me to the bookstore?” I asked.

“I changed my mind. It’s late. Go home.” She said.

“Alright, let’s go.” I said, holding her hand.

She pushed my hand away. I looked at her, surprised by her action.

“You are going home.” She said.

“Then you?” I asked.

“I’ll go home too.” She said.

“I’ll send you back first.” I said.

“No need to.” She said.

She hailed for a cab and forcefully shoved me instead.

“YAH!!!” I tried to struggle to get out but she slammed the door in my face before running away.

I dumbly watch her run away. Why was she crying? She was happy a moment ago. What happened? Was it me? Did I say or do something wrong?

I got out of the cab, wanting to chase after her, but she was nowhere to be seen. Maybe I should leave her alone.

“Sir,” The cab driver called out.

I got back in and told him the address to the dorm. Even though I had no idea what just happened, I couldn’t help but feel guilty.

Haneul’s POV

I went back to the bookstore and locked myself in the basement. I hugged onto the blanket, muffling my sobs. Junhyung after the coma was a changed man. It may sound stupid to cry because he rejected me when I asked him to sing, but how could I not feel upset when the Junhyung in the past would never say no to me despite how embarrassing the situation is.

It hurts me so much when even bringing him back to the places where most of our memories were; the playground, the back of our school, had no effect on him at all. Those were the places we spend the most time at, he should remember, at least a little, no? The playground witnessed the beginning of us, how could he forget? He would have never asked me to leave when we were at the playground in the past.

I cannot and also would not blame him for his cold attitude, because he doesn’t know, he doesn’t remember. To me, he is my boyfriend, but to him, I am just someone who claims to be his girlfriend. I am the one clinging onto him. I am almost a stranger to him, so why in the world should he abide by what a stranger asks him to do?

In the past when he did everything and anything for me, I never appreciated him. Now, when I don’t get anything from him at all, I believe this is how he felt when I pushed him away countless times and treated him like crap no matter how sweet he was. I guess this is my punishment for taking him for granted.

Junhyung may be physically with me, but I miss him so much, I miss my Junhyung; the one that remembers.
