Haneul’s POV

“Ji Eun~” I called out.

“Umma!” She smiled, running towards me.

“Aigoo my sweetheart. Are you alright?” I asked, carrying her up.

She nodded, playing with my hair.

“That’s good. But didn’t Jace Appa and I always tell you all that the sea is out of bounds without adults around?” I asked.

She pouted and looked down, playing with her fingers.

“So tell me, why were you there?” I asked.

“I…” She mumbled.

I waited for her answer.

“I wanted to pick seaswells~” She pouted.

“Seashells, sweetie.” I laughed.

“Seaswells~” She repeated.

I couldn’t help but laugh at her mispronunciation.

“But there are seashells on shore too, why did you go to the sea?” I asked.

She looked at me, as thou I had just exposed some sort of lie she was plotting.

“Hmm?” I looked at her.

She sighed and rested her head against my shoulder.

“I…” She mumbled.

“Seashells aren’t the main, right?” I asked.

She nodded with a slight pout.

“Then what is it?” I asked.

“Starfwish..” She mumbled.

“You wanted to pick starfishes?” I asked.

She shook her head.

“Then?” I asked.

“I want to send the starfwish home.” She said, looking at me with her big eyes.

“You want to send the starfish home? But the starfish is already home, isn’t it?” I asked.

She shook her head frantically.

“Starfwishes should be in the water!” She said.

“So you wanted to put the starfish back into the water?” I asked.

She nodded.

“Then why did you have to go into the water? You could throw it in.” I said.

She looked at me with a disgusted expression, as thou I just asked her to kiss Junhyung.

“IT WILL FAINT!!!!!!!” She yelled, looking so upset.

“Huh?” I laughed.

She looked at me with an angry expression.

“Sorry, sorry.” I bit my lower lip to stop myself from laughing.

“So, you wanted to send the starfishes home, that’s why you were in the water?” I asked.

She nodded.

“Then why did you lie about picking seashells?” I asked.

“I NEVER LIE!!!” She yelled with an accused expression.

“You’re confusing me, sweetie.” I said.

“I wanted to send the starfwishes home and pick seaswells!” She said firmly.

“Where are your seashells?” I asked.

“GONE!” She pouted, looking as thou she would burst into tears.

“It’s alright, it’s alright.” I patted her back, kissing her on her cheek.

“But Ji Eun ah, although what you’re doing is not wrong, wandering off into the water alone is dangerous and very wrong.” I said.

She nodded and looked down.

“Sorwy~” She said.

“You can always get one of us to accompany you, understand?” I said.

“But everyone was busy.” She pouted.

I looked at her.

“Jace Appa was pwaying with Doojoon ahjusshi, Yoseob ahjusshi, Kikwang ahjusshi, Hyunseung ahjusshi, Dongwoon ahjusshi, Tae Hyun oppa and the other oppa and unni. Ahjumma was busy cooking. And you.. you were busy too. No one was free to accompany Ji Eun.” She looked down.

“Ouh my sweetheart.” I hugged her tight.

“Junhyung ahjusshi was free. He was playing alone. Why didn’t you ask him to accompany you?” I said.

She looked at me and then looked away.

“You were busy with him.” She mumbled.

“Does this mean if I weren’t with him, you would go to him?” I asked.

“No~” She said.

“Why not?” I asked.

“No.” She said, puffing her cheeks.

“But whatever it is, don’t you think you owe him a ‘thank you’? If not for him, Ji Eun would be swallowed by the waves.” I said.

She looked at me with a horrified expression. I didn’t mean to scare her.

“And Junhyung ahjusshi got drenched because of you. What if he falls sick?” I asked.

She looked a tad bit guilty, but quickly showed a straight face. This girl really knows how to control her expressions well.

“He really has poor immune system. He falls sick easily.” I continued.

She looked away, totally ignoring me.

“Alright. Go and play.” I said, putting her down.

She looked at me.

“Go on, join the other ahjusshis.” I said.

“You?” She asked.

“Me? I’ll have to go and see if Junhyung is alright. You know, I said he has poor immune system. Ahh he was sneezing so badly just now.” I said, walking off.

I turned back slightly and saw her still standing at where she was, with a finger in and looking down.

She was feeling guilty. As much as I did not want to make her feel so bad, but at times measures like this are necessary especially on such a stubborn girl like her.

The Beast boys, Jace and the kids were watching a movie together. Tae Hyun was leaning on Junhyung while Ji Eun on Jace and the other kids were just all around the other Beast members. I was behind them at the dining table on my laptop.

“Haneul ah~” Ahjumma called out.

“Hmm?” I answered, not looking up from my laptop screen.

“Would you be a sweetheart?” She asked.

“No.” I said, knowing what she wanted me to do.

“Please~~” She shut my laptop cover with my hands still on the keyboard.

“OWWWWWW!!!” I yelled.

“What happened!? Junhyung shouted, the other Beast boys turned to look at us in shock, except for the kids and Jace.

“It’s alright. Continue watching.” Jace said, using his arm to gesture their faces back to the screen.

“What is it that you want to do, Ahjumma?” Junhyung asked, walking over to our side.

“I want her to go get dinner. I ordered already, someone just has to go get them.” Ahjumma said.

“Ouh~ We’ll go.” Junhyung said, nudging me.

“I want to go too!” Ji Eun beamed.

“You want to go?” I asked Ji Eun.

She nodded.

“You want to go?” I asked Junhyung.

He looked at me and nodded.

“VERY WELL AHJUMMA! YOU JUST GOT YOURSELF TWO VOLUNTEERS!” I clapped.

“What?” Junhyung asked.

“Ji Eun wants to go, Junhyung wants to go. So the both of you will hold hands and go together! Yay!” I smiled.

Ji Eun’s face dropped and Junhyung just looked stunned.

The other boys as well as Jace turned over to look at me.

Junhyung’s POV

“Erm… I am okay with it.” I mumbled, looking at Ji Eun.

“NO!” Ji Eun stomped her foot.

“Oh okay, then either we don’t eat, or Junhyung, you go alone.” Haneul said, looking at Ji Eun.

She glared hard at me.

“So?” Haneul said, looking at me and then Ji Eun.

“FINE!” Ji Eun shouted.

Although she wasn’t willing, I am still happy that she actually agreed to spend time with just me alone.

“Stop grinning~ Your mouth is going to tear soon.” Haneul commented.

“Hee~ I just..” I smiled.

“I gave you the chance, it’s yours to make use of it.” She said.

I leaned closer to peck her on her cheek. I jumped when I felt a slap on my . I turned and saw Ji Eun glaring at me, nicely clothed.

Haneul laughed and looked away.

“Oh, you’re ready?” I said.

She stomped towards the door.

“Here’s the address and the money. Have fun.” Ahjumma handed me a piece of paper and a stack of bills.

“I’ll pay.” I took the paper but not the money.

“What!? No no no! We can’t let you do this!” She tried to shove the money into my pocket.

“Let him~” Haneul said, stopping her.

“Yea, let me pay.” I smiled.

“COMING!?” Ji Eun yelled, arms across her chest.

“Yes yes!” I shouted.

“Good luck.” Haneul smiled.

The other boys were grinning at me too.

“Oh Jun! Where’s your coat huh?” Doojoon frowned.

“Oh I forgot. Hee~” I ran back to the sofa to get it.

“Sorry!” I smiled at Ji Eun.

“So slow!” She glared at me, pushing the door open.

“Don’t walk so fast!” I hurried behind her.

She was practically running away from me.

“Oh gosh. Wait up for me, please.” I panted when I finally caught up with her.

We walked down the street in silence. I watch look around, curious about everything.

“I know you most likely don’t want to hold my hand. But I can’t just let you cross the road like this. Please?” I stretched out my hand to hold hers when we were at the traffic light.

She looked at me, then my hand.

“I can put on gloves if you don’t wish to have direct skin contact with me..” I said, pulling out a pair of gloves from my pocket, and it had to be the panda mittens that Yoseob randomly took for me in the morning.

Ji Eun looked at the mittens with a unreadable expression. I was honestly feeling quite embarrassed.

“Erm.. Yea.. I like pandas.. Haa~” I smiled awkwardly.

She didn’t say anything, but she took my hand. I dazed for a while.

“Let’s go.” She mumbled, dragging me across the road.

She left me in greater shock when she did not let go of my hand even after we had crossed the road. I wonder if she had forgotten or was used to holding someone’s hand that it did not occur to her it was me, or is she starting to open up to me? Whatever the reason is, I couldn’t hide my excitement. I held onto her tighter as we walked down the street.

“Are you hungry? Want to snack on something?” I asked, breaking the silence.

She looked around.

“Ice cream? Or bread? Or biscuits? Or street food?” I suggested.

“Hot dog.” She mumbled.

“Hot dog? The breaded one or the one with French fries?” I asked, looking out for a store that sells it.

“Erm…” She looked like she had a hard time deciding.

“How about both?” I asked.

“Huh?” She looked at me, surprised.

“We’ll take both. Then we can share, or if you want to eat both, it’s okay too.” I said.

We headed towards a store and bought the food.

“Hold it like this.” I said, wrapping a piece of tissue over the stick so she would not dirty her fingers.

“Which one do you want?” I asked.

She looked at the hot dogs. I chuckled at her expression. She looked like she was choosing a course to major in. In the end, she took the French fries covered one.

“Thank you.” She mumbled.

“You’re welcome.” I smiled.

I nibbled on my share while watching her eat hers. We were still holding hands. She suddenly stopped eating and walking.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

She looked at the ¾ eaten hot dog and then at me.

“Why? Are you full already?” I asked, squatting down to her level.

“Sowry.” She mumbled.

“Sorry? Why are you apologizing?” I asked, confused.

“Supposed to share.” I heard her mumble.

I laughed out at her statement.

“It’s alright, silly!” I took hers and gave her mine.

“See, we’re still sharing it now.” I smiled, taking a bite.

She looked awhile, but still ate. I chuckled to myself while eating the saliva coated hot dog. Nevertheless, it was delicious.

“Shall we head back now?” I asked her after we collected the food.

She nodded but her eyes seemed fixed on something. I looked over at where she was staring. Baskin’ Robbins.

Although she wasn’t blood related to Haneul, they are really alike. Her body may be outside with me, but her soul has already flown into the store.

“I feel like eating some ice cream. Do you want one too?” I asked, knowing that if I asked her directly she would refuse.

She looked at me, and then started thinking again.

“Come on~ It’s just ice cream.” I pulled her into the shop.

She stuck her face onto the glass panel like how Haneul would. I couldn’t help but laugh at the resemblance. I felt like I was bringing a baby Haneul out.

“So, which flavor?” I asked.

“Erm… This!” She pointed.

“Cotton candy?” I asked.

She nodded.

“Just one scoop?” I asked.

“I can have more than one?” She looked at me with her big eyes.

“Why not?” I said.

“Do you guys have a five or ten scoop one?” I asked the girl at the counter.

Ji Eun had a really cute, surprised expression on her.

“Haha just kidding. So, what else?” I asked.

“Swooting star!” She pointed.

“Swooting..?” I thought for a while, looking at the flavors.

 “Oh~! Shooting stars. Alright. Cup or cone?” I asked.

“Erm….” She looked at the cone, then at the cup.

“If you’re afraid of dirtying your hands if you eat the cone one, don’t worry. Because eating ice cream is all about getting your hands dirty.” I said.

“Cone.” She smiled slightly.

“Did you just smile at me!?” I exclaimed, a little too loudly.

She ignored me and continued to look at the other flavors.

 I ordered her double scoop as well as a single scoop for myself. I bought a few tubs of takeaway for everyone too, knowing Haneul would go crazy if she knows she does not have a share. I handed Ji Eun her cone and held onto her hand as we ate our ice cream and walked back.

Haneul’s POV

Junhyung and Ji Eun had been out for more than an hour already. Everyone was hungry, but no one had the heart to disturb their little date. We just hoped that Junhyung wouldn’t come back with bruises or a sulky face or worst still, without Ji Eun with him, or maybe, the opposite, Ji Eun without Junhyung.

Everyone dramatically turned to the door when we heard it open. Junhyung and Ji Eun walked in, holding hands and their ice cream.

“YOU GUYS HAD BASKIN’ ROBBINS WITHOUT ME!?” I yelled, startling the two of them.

They both had the exact guilty expression on their face.

“HOW DARE YOU!?” I pouted.

They were eating my favourite ice cream, and I did not have a share!?

“How can we leave you out?” He showed me a paper bag with the words BASKIN’ ROBBINS printed clearly. Aww~ That’s my Junhyung.

“Was it fun with Junhyung ahjusshi?” Ahjumma asked Ji Eun as she took the bags from Junhyung.

“Not bad.” Ji Eun mumbled before plopping onto the sofa.

“I think I’m winning.” Ahjumma whispered into my ear.

“It’s not final.” I hissed.

“What are you talking about?” Junhyung asked, appearing behind me.

“Nothing of your concern.” I claimed the cone of ice cream in his hand.

“That’s mine!” He pouted.

“Correction, love. It was yours.” I smiled.

During dinner, both Ji Eun and Junhyung did not eat much. Ji Eun was just poking her food while Junhyung was smiling and cutting up his share. I could understand why Junhyung wasn’t eating, he was too happy. But Ji Eun?

“Don’t be gross, hyung.” Dongwoon frowned and took away Junhyung’s food, eating it.

“Eat more, Woonie~” Junhyung smiled.

The Beast boys looked at me, and then Junhyung. The usual Junhyung would have shot Dongwoon a death glare.

I shrugged my shoulders and continued eating. After dinner, they played for a while more before heading to bed, which was tough because everyone refused to sleep. The Beast boys were here to stay for the weekend, thus making the kids so happy with their new playmates.

“There are about two spare rooms down the hall, you guys can split. But I know, Beast must stick together be it what they do. So take the room on the left, it’s bigger.” I said.

“Thank you, Haneul.” Doojoon smiled.

They looked tired, but were still smiling.

“I should be thanking you guys for coming. Those kids must have drained you all more than your hectic schedule did, no?” I said.

“Drained, but in a happy way. Just like the Kenya one.” Yoseob smiled.

“Alright, tomorrow will be a longer day. Go on and rest. You know where to wash up, do you?” I said.

They nodded and headed towards their room. I turned behind and saw Junhyung following me, grinning.

“Do you need something?” I asked.

He shook his head, yawning.

“Then? Go on and sleep. Look at your tired face.” I touched his cheek slightly.

“I am going to sleep.” He said.

“You’re walking in the wrong direction.” I said.

“Your room is there.” I pointed.

“JUNHYUNG! YOUR STUFF! YOU’RE TOO SLOW SO WE’RE KICKING YOU OUT!” Hyunseung shouted, sliding Junhyung’s bag down the hall, and then slamming the door shut.

“YAH!!!” I yelled.

“I got kicked out, again.” Junhyung pouted, looking down.

“There’s another room.” I said.

He pouted, looking down at his feet.

“If I find out that you plotted this with them, I’ll chop you.” I mumbled, walking to my room but left my door open.

“GOOD NIGHT!!!” He shouted, running passed me and throwing himself onto my bed.

“Move! Fatty~” I smacked his and pushed him slightly.

“I am fat!?” He looked at me, slapping his stomach.

“Very!” I snuggled into the blanket with him.

“Haneul ah~” He called out.

“Hmm?” I mumbled.

“I’m so happy.” He said.

“It’s written all over your face.” I laughed, resting my head on his chest.

“I’m really happy.” He said.

“What happened? What did you do to melt that girl?” I asked.

He excitedly told me everything. An hour plus and he made such a big jump in the relationship with Ji Eun. Junhyung is really amazing. Kids are afraid of his scary look, but he really has his way with kids. Or perhaps, that’s because he is a kid himself.

“I’m really losing…” I mumbled, half asleep.

“Losing what?” He asked.

“Hmmm…” I mumbled, drifting off into sleep.

“Alright never mind. Good night, darling.” He kissed me on my cheek.

“But I’m so happy!” I think I heard him squeal.
