Shock

I'm Different

Junhyung’s POV

I ran over to the scene, and behind the burning car, I saw Haneul standing, back facing me, looking down. I felt so relief to see her. The blood in my body that seems to have stopped flowing just now started flowing again, making me feel dizzy.

“HANEUL!!” I shouted.

She did not respond.

“HANEUL AH!!” I yelled at her as I turned her to face me.

“ARE YOU HURT!?” I shouted, shaking her as I checked her for injuries.

She stared at me blankly; face as pale as a sheet, tears flowing like an open dam. She had blood on her shirt, but she didn’t seem to be injured.

“What happened!?” I shouted.

Her tears started flowing and she trembled badly. She pointed to the ground. I turned back down at where she was pointing. I almost vomited. There was a dead cat lying on the floor at her feet, one of its legs was detached from its body and its eyes were still open, staring at us. I quickly yanked Haneul over and covered her eyes.

“It’s okay. It’s okay.” I hushed her as I took off my jacket and covered the body of the cat.

Haneul buried her face in my chest and suddenly started puking onto my shirt. Although it was disgusting, I couldn’t push her away. I held up her hair and pat her back as she puke.

“It’s okay. I’m here.” I said.

I couldn’t hug her with my vomit stained shirt. I took off my shirt, leaving me only in my singlet. I threw my shirt aside and hugged her tightly. She didn’t say anything, but she kept sobbing and trembling. I guess the car must have knocked into the cat and the cat landed onto her feet, dead.

I felt her suddenly go limp in my embrace.

“Haneul?” I called her.

“Haneul ah!” I shook her, but her eyes were closed.

I touched her forehead; she was burning up.

“Haneul ah! Please stay with me!” I begged as I hugged her tightly.

The police and ambulance arrived very soon.

“Are you hurt!?” One of the medics asked me.

“No, but please attend to her!” I pleaded.

The medics took her and when I was about to follow, one of the police officer stopped me.

“Sir, we need to take your statement.” He said.

“Can we do it later? My girlfriend is unconscious.” I said.

“But Sir..” He looked at me.

“Please! I don’t want her to wake up and not have anyone to turn to. Please!” I begged.

“Can you just give us a brief explanation for now?” He said.

“I was in the bookstore over there when that SUV suddenly crashed inside. And then I heard another loud crash and when I got out of the bookstore, the car over here burst into flames.” I said hurriedly.

“Okay, thank you Sir, but we’ll look for you again.” He said.

“As you wish.” I mumbled as I hurried up the ambulance.

“Please be okay.” I whispered into Haneul’s ear as I held onto her hand tight.

“Sir.. Your hand..” One of the medics said, pointing at my left hand.

“It’s fine.” I mumbled.

I had no mood to bother about myself. I wasn’t there when Haneul needed me the most. If not because of my stupid temper, this wouldn’t have happened. It’s my entire fault. Haneul is always jumping around me. I am not used to seeing her lie to lifelessly like this. It hurts me so much.

“Please be okay. I’ll give up anything for you to be okay. Haneul, please.” I begged as I cried into her chest.

I felt someone put a towel over my shoulders.

“It’s cold.” The medic smiled.

“She’ll be fine. I’m sure it’s just shock.” He said.

At the hospital, I waited outside anxiously as the doctor checked on her. It is very unmanly, but I couldn’t help but cry. There isn’t anything I seem to be able to do at this point of time. I was just so ing worried.

“HYUNG!” I heard a familiar voice called.

I turned back and saw the boys running towards me.

“What happened!?” Doojoon asked.

I couldn’t answer with words, except tears.

“Shhh don’t cry. We’re here.” He said, pulling me into his arms.

“I’m scared. It’s my entire fault.” I said.

“Alright, alright. It’s okay.” He said.

I suddenly heard a lot of noises and then cameras flashing into my face.

“Yong Junhyung sshi, we heard that you were in an accident. Are you hurt? What exactly happened?”

“There was a girl with you, am I right? Who is she? Is she your girlfriend?”

“Junhyung sshi, are you in a relationship?”

“How long has it been? Are you planning on going public?”

“Does your company know about it?”

“Do the other members know? Do you all approve of his relationship?”

They bombarded me with questions like this and they couldn’t stop taking photos. They kept grabbing me, trying to get me to face them but Doojoon hugged me tight, shielding me from the reporters.

“Please stop.” I heard Yoseob say, trying to shield me as well..

“Please stop taking photos.” Dongwoon said.

I felt like a burden to them. Because of me, the boys had to be put in such an awkward position.

“STOP IT!” Doojoon suddenly yelled, yanking me behind him.

“STOP IT! ALL OF YOU! DON’T YOU GUYS HAVE A HEART!?” He yelled.

Everyone froze and stared at him.

“Instead of asking things like ‘are you okay?, ‘did you hurt yourself?’, ‘is the girl okay?’, ‘is she badly hurt?’, you guys ask questions like ‘who is she?’, ‘is she your girlfriend’ ! Does it even matter now!? Someone is hurt! He is in pain now, yet all you all bother about is his personal life! Where is your heart!?” Doojoon yelled.

“Hyung.” I nudged him from behind.

“We’ll answer questions later. He needs to rest for now. I’m sorry for yelling.” Doojoon bowed to them before leading us to the back.

The reporters did not follow. I don’t know if they were too shocked or were they feeling guilty, but either way, I’m thankful.

“Anyone for Haneul sshi?” A doctor called out.

“ME!” I yelled, running over.

“How is she!?” I asked anxiously.

“Calm down. She’s fine. She passed out due to shock. Her fever is subsiding, but I suggest she stay here for a night to be sure.” He said.

“Thank God. Thank you very much. Can I see her?” I asked.

“Yes you may. But first, your hand~” He said, pointing.

“HYUNG! WHAT HAPPENED!? WHY IS IT SO SWOLLEN!?” Dongwoon asked.

“I hurt myself.” I said.

“We should do an X-Ray on that.” The doctor said.

“But I want to see her first.” I said.

He nodded and pointed to me where Haneul was. I pushed open the curtains and saw Haneul on the bed, asleep.

“Darling~” I whispered, kissing her on her forehead.

“Darling, I’m so sorry.” I said.

“It’s not your fault.” Doojoon said, putting his arm over my shoulder.

“It is. You don’t know what I did. It’s entirely my fault.” I said.

“Alright, stop crying. Let’s go get your hand treated. I think it’s fractured.” He said, pulling me away.

Doojoon’s prediction was right. My hand was indeed fractured.

“It’s look pretty bad.” The doctor said, looking at the X-ray.

“Really?” I mumbled.

I was seriously not in the mood for it now. I want to be beside Haneul.

“You need an operation for this. The bones in the middle are broken. It’s going to be long and very painful if you let it heal like this. It may never heal.” He said.

“Operation!?” I yelled.

“Sorry. But no, I can’t.” I said.

“WHAT!?” Doojoon who was inside with me yelled.

“Are you crazy!?” He snapped.

I cannot possibly be going into the operating theater now when Haneul still unconscious. I don’t want to leave her any moment now.

“But Junhyung sshi, even if we put a cast on your hand, you’re going to be in a lot of pain.” He said.

“It’s fine. I can bear with it. Cast, jab, whatever, I can endure any pain, just not an operation. Not now.” I said.

“Junhyung, don’t be so stubborn!” Doojoon scolded.

“Hyung..” I said, trying to get him to understand.

He rolled his eyes and sighed.

“I’ll put a cast on your hand for now, but you really need an operation. The broken bone is no joke. It’s really serious. You need to get operated for this or the chances of losing the use of your hand is high.” He said.

I couldn’t digest any of his words. I couldn’t even feel any pain at this moment.

“When she wakes up, you’re doing the operation.” He said as we walked to Haneul’s room.

“We’ll see.” I mumbled.

“Yong Junhyung!” He pushed me against the wall and stared hard at me.

The pain in my back shot up, but I held it in.

“Hyung! Please! I just want to see her now!” I shouted.

He sighed and nodded.

“Sorry.” He mumbled.

When we arrived in the room, the other boys were sitting around.

“How is your hand!?” Yoseob asked.

“I’m fine.” I said.

“You’re not!” Doojoon shouted.

He told the boys what the doctor said while I sat beside Haneul, caressing her cheek. They stayed for quite awhile before leaving. I stayed behind.

“Hyung, get some sleep, okay?” Kikwang said.

“I will. Thanks guys.” I said.

“We’re your brothers. Don’t say thank you.” Yoseob smiled.

“Let us know when she wakes up.” Hyunseung said.

I nodded as they left.

The police came by awhile later and explained the situation to me. It turned out that the SUV driver was drunk and speeding. He crashed into the car that flew across the road where Haneul supposedly was and skidded before crashing into the bookstore.

“Is the guy okay? The one in the car that was on fire?” I asked.

“He’s fine, except for some burns. He managed to climb out before the car burst into flames directly. We asked him about your girlfriend but he said he never saw anyone by the road side.” He said.

I thanked the police but I was cursing the driver inside. How irresponsible of him. But if Haneul wasn’t there, then where did she come from?

I pushed the couch to beside the bed and lied down. The pain from the whole ordeal started attacking my body. I held onto Haneul’s hand and drifted off into sleep.

I was awoken by pain on my arm; it felt as thou someone dug their nails into my skin. I woke up and saw Haneul struggling and grabbing me really tightly.

“Darling, wake up!” I shook her lightly.

She was perspiring and she seemed really uncomfortable.

“Darling, wake up! Please!” I shook her harder.

“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” She screamed and shot up.

She stared at me, still catching her breathe, then throw herself into my arms, hugging me tightly.

“It’s okay. It’s just a bad dream. I’m here.” I hushed her.

“It’s scary~” She cried.

“I know. I’m so sorry.” I hugged her, her back.

Her clothes were soaked with her sweat.

“Where are you going!?” She yelled when I headed for the door.

“Your clothes are soaked. I’m going to ask for another set so you can change. I’ll be really quick, I promise.” I said.

“Don’t go.” She pouted and started crying.

My heart hurt so much seeing her like this.

“Please.” She pleaded, stretching out her hand like a kid.

“Alright.” I said, taking her hand into mine, giving her a peck on her forehead.

“Then wear mine.” I said, taking off my shirt.

Luckily the boys brought me clothes when they came.

“Then you?” She asked.

“I’m fine. I still have my singlet.” I said.

After she changed, I sat on the side of the bed, letting her rest in my arms.

“Feeling better?” I asked, caressing her arm.

She shook her head.

“I can’t get the image out of my head. It .” She cried.

“Shhh shhh~ Don’t cry.” I hushed her.

“I watch it die. I let it die!” She cried harder.

“It’s not your fault.” I said, trying to calm her.

“But what happened?” I asked when she calmed down.

“I saw the car speed and lose control. It banged into another car before skidding into the bookstore. You were inside! I freaked out! I wanted to run over to your side. Just when I moved away from where I was sitting, the car that got banged into landed onto where I was before. And then the next thing I know, the cat was flung onto my body. I don’t know how it got there and how it died. I only know it hit me and it looked as thou it was begging me for help. But I couldn’t!” She cried, grabbing my arm really tightly.

“Alright alright. It’s not your fault.” I hushed her.

“Are you hurt?” She asked, looking at me with a pout.

“I’m fine.” I smiled.

“I almost died when I saw the SUV crash into the bookstore.” She said.

“I almost died when you fainted in my arms too.” I said.

“Sorry.” She pouted.

“No. I’m sorry. Darling, I’m so sorry. If not for me and my stupid temper, things wouldn’t have happened.” I said.

“You didn’t cause the accident. Besides, I’m at fault for angering you.” She said.

“Neither did you cause the death of the cat. And, you were just stating the truth; I was just unwilling to accept.” I said.

She shook her head and look down.

“What did the doctor say?” She asked, touching my cast.

“It’s broken.” I laughed.

“Still laughing!?” She frowned.

“Alright sorry.” I covered my mouth.

“Does it hurt a lot?” She asked.

“It’s fine.” I lied.

“Liar.” She made a face at me before leaning down to kiss the exposed part of my hand.

“Its fine now~” I wiggled my fingers but they wouldn’t move like how I wanted them too.

“Don’t do that.” She whined.

“Okay, okay. Sleep already, hmm?” I said.

She nodded and lied on my lap.

“Can I sleep like this?” She asked.

“Of course you may. More than happy letting you sleep like this.” I said.

I covered the blanket over her and let her hug my arm.

“Good night.” I said.

“Don’t go, okay?” She said.

“I’ll never leave you alone again.” I said.

She nodded and closed her eyes. I pat her chest lightly until she fell asleep.

Haneul’s POV

When I woke up the next morning, I was still on Junhyung’s lap. I looked up and saw him asleep in a sitting position, head resting on his good arm on the side table, back twisted in an awkward position. I sat up and tried to shift him as lightly as possible so as not to wake him. I froze when he groaned a little. I hushed him back to sleep and thankfully it worked. I couldn’t pull him to lie down, so I let him rest on my shoulder. While he slept, I examined his injured hand. It was really swollen and badly bruised.

“Were you that angry?” I asked softly.

“No.. Please don’t go.. Haneul ah~” He mumbled in his sleep.

“I’m not leaving you.” I said.

He sighed and opened his eyes.

“Morning.” I smiled at him.

“Oh~ You’re awake.” He said, rubbing his eyes.

“What did you dream of?” I asked, straightening his messy hair.

“You died.” He said, burying his face in his palms.

“Hahahaha~ I wouldn’t die so easily. I still want to torture you.” I said.

“Be my guest.” He smiled.

“Hungry?” He asked.

I nodded.

“I’ll buy you food.” He said, getting out of bed.

He suddenly stopped walking and leaned against the wall, holding onto his back.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Just a little painful.” He said.

“A little? You turn pale out of a sudden. Are you really okay?” I asked, supporting him.

He bent over, leaning against me while massaging his back.

“Aghhh~” He squeezed his eyes shut, tears escaping.

“Sit down, sit down. I’ll call the doctor.” I said.

“I can’t.” He choked out.

“Then lie down.” I said, helping him to the bed.

“Are you hiding something from me again?” I asked, trying to ease his pain that seemed to get worse by the minute.

“I… I got hit.” He said.

“WHAT!?” I shouted.

“Not by the car, but by the metal handle of the door.” He said, breathing heavily.

“You really can carry on hiding stuff from me, Yong Junhyung.” I said as I slam the emergency button.

“I’m sorry.” He said.

“Shut up.” I mumbled.

I was angry with him for hiding things from me, but at the same time, it worries me how much pain he is in. He is a dancer; he cannot afford to hurt his back. Or rather, anyone cannot afford to hurt their back.

“You’re a terrible person.” I mumbled.

“I know. I’m sorry.” He said.

“I really hate you.” I said, rubbing his back lightly.

“But I love you.” He said, forcing a smile.

I rolled my eyes and looked away.

“It hurts.” He cried, burying his face into my lap.

“What else are you hiding?” I asked.

“I need operation for my hand.” He mumbled.

“WHAT!? YONG JUNHYUNG!!!!” I slapped his shoulder in anger.

He looked at me with a slight pout before groaning in pain again.

I swear I’m going to physically and mentally torture him when he gets better.

Chapter 208: Finally! I've read everything. It was ultimately satisfying. No regrets reading it for a long time even though I stopped at the very last chapters but I managed to finished it. I love everything in this story. The plot, the characters and so on. Their quirkiness and childishness always make me smiles and laughs most of the time. It makes my day at how ridiculous the characters are. However, it never fails to teach me the lessons of life and how important are the families including non-blood relation. It makes to appreciate yet enjoy the content as well. Yes, I agree with you that the ending was already perfect as it was. :D Despite the chapters are unbearably long, it was entertaining and well done. Love your story! ♥
