I'm DifferentJunhyung’s POV
I walked into the hospital room and took a glance at Haneul. She is still asleep, as usual. It has been three days since she passed out in my arms that day. She isn’t in a coma, but she behaves as thou she is. She wakes up, mumbles something no one could make out, and then drift off into sleep again. For three days, it has been like this.
“Stop sleeping. I miss your voice.” I whispered, planting a kiss on her cheek.
I sat down beside her, touching the bandages lightly. How evil, those people. How could they do this to her? What did she do wrong? I was the one who asked her into the relationship. I started it. I should be the one getting kicked and scalded, not my dear girl.
Of course, they were not the only ones at fault. I am at fault too. After the report, I should have come back at once. To think I actually trusted Haneul when she said everything was fine. I left her to deal with those people alone. I wasn’t with her when she needed me the most. I landed her in this state. My dear girl, exactly how much pain did she go through? If I didn’t come back that day, would I never be able to see her again?
I took her book and continued reading from where I left off. Since I had nothing to do, I started reading her book. It is fantasy; vampires, faeries, shadowhunters, werewolves etc. It is pretty interesting. She seemed addicted to this series. She seemed to always be inside their world whenever she reads it. I guess I can understand why. I am too, absorbed into the book.
I felt a light tug on my arm.
“Jun..nie..” I heard her mumble.
I look up from the book and saw her staring weakly at me.
“Yea~” I said, kissing her on her cheek before continuing to read. I am not ignoring her, it’s just that, she would fall asleep again. I miss her very much, but I have passed the ‘getting excited’ stage. She is going to sleep for God knows how long more, I know it.
I felt weird as I read, as thou someone was staring at me. I looked up around and then back at Haneul. It was her? She didn’t fall back into sleep?
“Haneul?” I called out.
She smiled slightly at me.
“Are you awake?” I asked, putting the book down.
“I’m.. sleeping..” She mumbled, smiling.
“YOU’RE AWAKE!? LIKE.. AWAKE, AWAKE!? NOT THE BLUR KIND OF AWAKE!?” I yelled excitedly.
She looked at me weirdly. I hugged her while I slammed the emergency button, calling for the doctor. The doctor came rushing in, thinking something happened. He was confused when I greeted him with a smile. He checked on Haneul while I waited outside.
“How is she?” I asked when the doctor stepped out.
“She’s fine. Just weak, but she’s okay.” He said.
“Thank you very much.” I said with a bow.
I went back inside and saw Haneul staring blankly at the wall.
“Darling.” I called out.
She turned to me with a slight smile.
“I.. I thought.. I died..” She said really softly.
“Died? Hahaha! Silly.” I sat down beside her, holding her hand.
“When I saw you just now, I thought I was dead. Was it you? At the bookstore?” She asked.
“If not me, who else? You silly bum. And what do you mean by just now? It was three days ago.” I said.
“Three days?” She looked at me, confused.
“You have been drifting in and out of sleep, you had no idea?” I asked.
She shook her head.
“All of us were so worried when you kept sleeping. The boys come every day and they leave disappointed because you were still asleep. Even Seungho Hyung came. He’s so worried too.” I said, pinching her nose lightly.
She looked at me with that blank look.
“You cannot remember anything?” I asked.
“I remember what happened to me. But.. waking up.. I don’t know.” She said.
“It doesn’t matter. As long as you’re awake now.” I said, hugging her.
“I miss you.” I said.
“Me too.” She said.
“Why did you suffer on your own?” I asked her, cupping her cheeks.
She shrugged her shoulders and just smiled.
“So ugly.” She mumbled, looking at her clothes.
“I knew you’ll say this.” I laughed, pinching her cheeks lightly.
She made a face at me and sighed.
“Don’t sigh. I’ll give you mine.” I said, taking off my pullover.
“Don’t..” She said.
I put my pullover on her.
“You?” She asked.
“I still have this. Besides, it’s summer. I don’t need that.” I said, showing her my singlet.
We stared into each other eyes, not saying anything. The cuts and bruises on face were healing but they still stood out on her pale skin. I touched her cheeks, brushing my thumb over the cut on her cheek. She winced and I withdrew my hand instantly.
“Sorry.” I said.
“It’s fine.” She said, taking my hand and putting it on her cheek.
Her hands were cold and shaky, an obvious indication as to how weak she actually is right now. Seeing her like this, I couldn’t help but feel angry at myself and at those people.
“Why didn’t you fight back?” I asked, biting my lips.
“Why should I?” She asked, poking my lips to prevent me from biting myself.
“Pabo! You always told me to fight back! But now, why did you let yourself get so hurt!? Why did you not tell me anything!? Why did you let me come back and find you so hurt!?” I yelled.
She stared at me in shock. I must have scared her, but I couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t smile and pretend none of this happened.
“I’m sorry for yelling.” I mumbled.
I stood away from her, facing the wall.
Haneul’s POV
Although his back was facing me, it wasn’t difficult to tell that he was crying.
“I’m sorry.” I said.
He ignored me and stayed where he was.
“I don’t wish for you to lose everything.” I said.
“Did you think that I would rather sacrifice you?” He said, turning back to me.
His eyes swollen and his face tear stained.
I shook my head.
“Do you know how scared I was? When I thought I was going to lose you, my whole world came crashing down. I sound very dramatic, I know. But at that point of time, I died, I really did.” He said.
“I died too.” I said.
I opened my arms, inviting him for a hug. He contemplated for awhile before coming over and throwing himself into my embrace.
“I promise Seungho to protect you.” I said, caressing his back.
“I promised your parents to protect you.” He said.
“I’m sorry I let you get hurt.” He said.
“Don’t cry.” I said as I felt his tears soak my neck.
He looked up at me, sniffing. I poked his cheek and wiped his tears away. He looked so tired. The dark circles under his eyes stood out really obviously.
“You need sleep.” I said, intertwining his fingers with mine.
He shook his head. I nodded my head. He shook his head again.
“Sleep here.” I said, patting my shoulder.
He shook his head. I made space for him to climb in.
“Come on.” I said, tugging his arm.
I didn’t have the strength to pull him or else I would have yanked him down.
“I’ll sleep there then.” He said, pointing to the couch.
“It’s bad for your back.” I said.
“It’s not.” He smiled, going to the couch.
“Then I can’t hold you.” I said, pouting.
He sighed and came over to lie down beside me. He was careful not to put too much of his weight onto me.
“Sleep well.” I said.
“Mmm~” He mumbled, closing his eyes.
He was asleep in a few minutes. I fell asleep myself but was awoken by the sound of the door opening. I opened my eyes and saw the other Beast boys standing at the door, looking at us with wide eyes.
“Shhh~” I mouthed.
They came in as softly as possible and settled down around us.
“You’re awake, finally.” Doojoon whispered with his signature smile.
“Sorry to worry you guys.” I said.
“He’s tired.” Yoseob said.
“Hmm?” I asked.
Yoseob pointed at Junhyung.
“I know.” I said.
“For three days, he never slept. He dressed your wounds personally and applied cream on them every day because he was afraid you’ll feel bad if the scars showed.” Doojoon said.
“He did?” I asked, looking at Junhyung who was very asleep next to me.
They told me many things that happened during these three days. It seemed like I have slept forever. Everything was going well until someone dropped a cup. We all froze when we heard the sound of the cup crash onto the floor. Our eyes darted from the culprit; Dongwoon, to Junhyung. I covered his ears but it was too late. He jerked from the shock and shot up.
“Son Dongwoon!” Doojoon shouted.
“Sorry…” Dongwoon mumbled, picking up the cup.
“What happened?” Junhyung asked.
“It’s nothing. Continue to sleep.” I said, patting his arm.
“It’s okay, I’m awake.” He said, getting off the bed.
“Sleep longer.” I said, holding his hand.
“It’s fine.” He said, greeting the other boys.
“It’s all your fault.” Hyunseung said, flicking Dongwoon’s forehead.
“It’s fine.” Junhyung said, patting the back of Dongwoon’s head.
He was still in dreamland, everyone could tell. He sat down on the couch and smiled dumbly at us.
“We brought you food.” Kikwang suddenly said.
“Food?” I asked.
They nodded and pulled out a lunchbox from the paper bag. I was expecting them to pull out some takeaway box.
“It may not taste very good, but we made it with our heart.” Yoseob said, opening the cover of the lunchbox.
I squealed when I saw the contents. They must have spent a lot of time on this. The two rice balls were decorated to look like a panda, as well as other food beside it.
“Wah~” I laughed, poking the cheek of the panda.
“When Junhyung told us you’re awake, we were thinking what we could do to cheer you up. We hope you like it.” Doojoon said.
“I love it.” I said, smiling at the pandas.
Never in my dreams have I thought anyone would spend so much time making such stuff for me. Not only did something like this really happen, it came from a group of boys.
“Eat up.” Junhyung said, sitting beside me.
“I cannot bear to eat it.” I said.
They burst into laughter.
“Just eat. We can always make you more if you like it.” Junhyung said.
“You didn’t make this.” I said, teasing him.
“Tsk~” He looked away.
“Just kidding.” I said, poking his lap.
“Eat up!” Doojoon said, handing me a pair of chopsticks.
“It’s like eating Seungho. I feel so bad.” I mumbled as I held onto the chopsticks.
“I heard my name.” The door opened, revealing Seungho.
“Oh my god. Speak of the devil.” Kikwang mumbled.
“Why did I hear my name?” He asked, walking towards us.
He looked at us, and then at my lunchbox.
“Do you have such huge hatred against me that you have to eat me up?” He asked.
“No…” I mumbled, eating the cheek of the panda.
He cupped his cheek and showed me a pained look. I went on to eat his eyes, nose, lips etc, eventually leaving only the ball of white rice.
“E…vil..” Seungho said, collapsing on the couch.
We all looked at each other before laughing. To think Seungho is behaving like this.
“I’m glad you’re laughing.” Seungho said, ruffling my hair.
They kept humoring me, making me laugh. Junhyung sat beside me, holding my hand all the time. I felt so glad I didn’t die just like that, or else I would have missed all these. Their smiles, so precious.
“Why don’t you go back with them?” I asked Junhyung.
Everyone else left, but he stayed behind.
“Of course I’m going to stay with you.” He said, sitting beside me.
“Are you tired?” He asked, pushing my hair to the side.
“No.” I said.
“Are you in pain?” He asked.
“Yes.” I said.
“Huh!? Where!?” He asked frantically.
I smiled and cupped his cheek.
“It hurts me to see you so tired.” I said.
“It hurts me to see you so weak too.” He said.
He leaned in, pushing me down onto the bed. He supported his own weight as he attacked my lips. We kissed passionately. No one fought for dominance, we just enjoyed the kiss. How I miss him, his taste, his scent, his touch, his everything.
