Happy Lunar New Year
I'm DifferentJunhyung’s POV
I opened my eyes to see Haneul snuggling in my arms, drooling all over my chest. I smiled slightly, playing with her hair while she slept. She suddenly sneezed into my face and opened her eyes.
“Opps! Sorry.” She mumbled, wiping her saliva off my face.
“It’s okay. Are you cold?” I asked, kicking the blanket to cover the both of us.
She shook her head and sat up.
“Good morning.” I said, holding her hand.
“Happy New Year.” She smiled.
“Happ..” Even before I could finish, she ran out of the room.
She ran back with two mandarin oranges in her hand, smiling really widely.
“I wish you all the best in your career, your health, your studies, wherever you go, whatever you do. Unleash the dragon in you and may the Dragon year be the best year for you.” She said, holding the two oranges in her hand in front of me.
“Erm.. Thank you?” I said, taking the oranges from her.
She smiled and kissed me on my forehead.
“So now what do I do? Do I have to do the same?” I asked.
We don’t have the ‘mandarin orange’ thing in our culture.
“When someone gives you oranges with words of blessing, of course you return them with a red packet stuffed with lots of money!” She said, stretching her hand out.
“Money? Erm..” I looked around for my wallet.
I handed her a stack of cash.
“I don’t have a red packet.” I said, embarrassed.
She laughed and flicked my forehead.
“You get cheated really easily, don’t you?” She said.
“Huh?” I asked, confused.
“Only the married gives red packets.” She explained.
“But my wishes for you are sincere.” She smiled.
“I should wish you too.” I said, taking the oranges.
“GO GET YOUR OWN!!” She laughed, literally kicking me out of bed.
“I don’t have! Lend them to me!” I pleaded.
“NO! How insincere!” She said, peeling the orange open.
“Then what do I do?” I asked.
“Do nothing.” She said, shoving a piece of orange into my mouth.
“Nice?” She asked.
“It’s tasteless.” I said.
“That’s exactly how I like it! There’s actually a hint of sweetness.” She said, shoving another piece into my mouth.
“It’s so faint.” I said.
“So sweet for what!” She laughed.
“You really love them huh?” I asked, feeding her.
“My favourite!” She smiled.
“What do you always do during the new year?” I asked.
“We visit relatives and I collect red packets.” She said.
“Then what should we do today?” I asked.
“We? No. I’m going back.” She said.
“Huh?” I asked.
She turned to me and laughed.
“Just kidding!” She lie back down on the bed, playing with the orange peel.
“Why are you so high?” I asked, resting on her chest.
“I don’t know. I’m hungry.” She pouted.
“Go wash up, I’ll cook!” I said, pulling her up.
“I don’t have a toothbrush.” She said.
“I’ll get you one.” I said, walking out of the room.
She jumped onto my back and giggled.
“Car-wy me!” She said.
I piggy-backed her to the toilet. We brushed over teeth together. I stepped out to cook while she showered. I made a simple breakfast with whatever we had in the fridge. She came out after awhile, hair bundled in the towel, dressed in my boxer and shirt.
“What?” She asked as she sat down to dry her hair.
“Nothing..” I mumbled, putting her bowl of rice in front of her.
“Are you going to shower?” She asked me.
“Later.” I said, sitting down.
“Wow~” She said, looking at the food.
“This is all we have.” I said.
I made Kimchi stew and sunny side up for breakfast.
“I don’t have mandarin oranges here, but we’ll use the egg yolk okay? My only wish for you is to be happy. Be it Dragon, Snake, Rabbit, Horse or whatever year, be happy.” I said.
“You too.” She smiled, pinching my nose lightly.
We ate breakfast and I went to take a quick shower.
“This is very cheesy.” She said, smiling.
“What is cheesy?” I asked, drying my hair with the towel.
“This.” She said, showing me two identical looking pullovers.
The pullovers were navy blur with a white bear as the design.
“CUTE! But why two?” I asked.
“Couple.” She blushed.
I raised my brow at her. I never expected her to actually be willing to wear such stuff.
“You don’t like it?” She pouted.
I shook my head and cupped her cheeks.
“I love it! I’m just surprised you actually don’t mind such stuff.” I said.
“I just thought of trying.” She mumbled.
I took my piece and put it on.
“Nice?” I asked.
She nodded happily and put her piece on. She kept taking out stuff from the bag and throwing it to me; T-shirts, sunglasses, pullovers, ear studs and many more.
“Why did you spend so much money?” I asked her, trying on the stuff.
“I just happen to see them. Do you like it?” She asked.
“Of course!” I said.
“Oh!! ONE MORE!” She smiled, digging into her bag.
“TA DA!!” She waved a soft toy in my face.
“What’s this?” I asked, taking it from her.
I burst into laughter seeing it. It was the same retarded looking Duckie, except this is female.
“Daisy Duck! His wife!” She smiled.
“Is this for me?” I asked, still laughing at it.
She nodded.
“Where’s my Duckie?” She asked, looking around.
“It was around just now.” I said, looking as well.
I remember seeing the Duckie on the bed just now. But where is it now? I stood up to look on the floor and Haneul suddenly screamed.
“WHAT!?” I asked in shock.
I looked down and saw the Duckie at where I was sitting.
“YOU SAT ON HIM!!!!!! HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SITTING DOWN!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” She slapped my and pouted at the soft toy.
“I’m sorry.” I laughed.
“DON’T LAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!” She whined.
“I’m so sorry!!” I said.
“HMPH!” She pouted.
I pinched her cheeks lightly and kissed her.
Our tongues fought for dominance. I was winning, but she suddenly opened her eyes and glared at me. I had no choice but to let her take charge. Nevertheless, it was a really sweet kiss.
“Apologize!” She said when we broke apart for air.
“Sorry, Duckie.” I said.
“Where should we go today?” She asked, lying on my lap.
“Where do you want to go?” I asked.
“Isn’t that what I asked you?” She said.
We thought for awhile and then looked at each other.
“THEME PARK!!” We said in unison.
“LET’S GO!!!!!!” I said.
She jumped up and ran around excitedly. We both got changed. We put our respective plushie into the front pocket of the pullover. I grabbed whatever we needed and headed to the car.
“Which one are we going to?” She asked, playing with both the Duckies.
“Everland.” I said.
“YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!” She squealed like a kid.
I pinched her cheek before driving out. The drive was about one and a half hour. She kept looking outside like a curious kid and smiling to herself.
“Why are you so happy today? Is it the oranges you ate this morning?” I asked.
“I think so.” She laughed.
“Gosh~” I said, laughing as well.
The moment I parked the car, she ran out, not bothering to wait for me.
“YAH!!!!!!!!! WAIT!!!” I shouted, running after her.
I held onto her tight. The place was crowded enough, I didn’t need to spend my Lunar New Year searching for her in the crowd. I bought our tickets and we headed inside.
“Stick close to me please.” I said.
She pouted but nodded anyway.
“Which one first?” I asked her.
She looked around and then pointed excitedly to the far end.
“THAT ONE!!!” She jumped excitedly.
I gulped.
“Sure?” I asked, in hope she’ll say she’s just kidding.
“OF COURSE!!” She laughed, pulling me along.
“Alright..” I mumbled, letting her pull me along.
Why of all things does she have to pick the roller coaster first? Not only is it a roller coaster, it is the highest and fastest one in the entire theme park. Yong Junhyung, you dug your own grave.
