Tiffany had never felt this awkward and distracted in her entire life. She had been quiet the whole time, only speaking when questions were addressed to her. Occasionally, her eyes would wander across the table where the young man was seated. As Taehyung cheerfully talked to his parents, she couldn’t help but wonder how he does it. To act like nothing happened, like they’ve only met for the first time, and that kind of irritated her.
“Tiffany.” The light touch on her arm brought her senses back. “Are you alright?” Taeyeon was looking at her with those worried eyes that instantly calmed her raging mind.
“I’m sorry. I got distracted.” Tiffany said apologetically.
“Are you feeling sick?”
“No, I’m fine.” She patted the girl’s knee to reassure her. “Just got distracted with that thing at work.” She turned to the old couple who was looking just as worried. “I’m sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Kim.”
“Oh, dear. It’s totally fine.” Mrs. Kim waved her hand dismissively.
“Yes, no worries.” Mr. Kim chimed in. “Try not to think about it too much. How about we get the desserts now, huh?” He gave her a warm smile before calling in the young lady to serve the last course.
Lunch ended before they knew it but that didn’t ease the anxiousness that’s been bothering Tiffany. Sure, meeting the parents was quite nerve wrecking and all that. But meeting Taehyung out of the blue, that was another story.
“Well, it was nice finally meeting you Tiffany.” Mr. Kim stood from his seat and gave her a light pat on her arm. “I hope to see you sometime soon, alright?” He smiled widely that totally resembled Taeyeon’s.
“Nobody’s going back if you keep on fussing over her.” Taeyeon waved her father’s hand off.
“But that’s what parents do!” The old man ruffled her hair playfully. “Besides, this girl looks promising.” He leaned in to whisper and got shoved away.
“Appa!” Taeyeon pointed at him accusingly. “Stop saying stupid things!”
“Oh, what stupid things? You’re the one being silly, Taeyeon.”
“Whatever, we’re leaving now.” Taeyeon glared at her parents and took Tiffany’s hand. “It was nice seeing you all.” She said monotonously and looked around to find her brother missing. “Where’s Taehyung?”
“He just left. Maybe he went upstairs.” Mrs. Kim answered before turning to Tiffany. “You’ll come and visit us again, right?” She gave the girl a warm hug that made her giggle.
“I will, Mrs. Kim.” Tiffany returned the smile as well.
“Okay, enough.” Taeyeon flailed her arms to separate the two. “We’re leaving for real. Goodbye.” She nodded to her parents before dragging Tiffany out of the dining room and up the stairs.
“Where are we going?” Tiffany looked at her curiously.
“Here.” She stopped at one of the bedrooms and banged the door. “Open up!”
“No!” Came out Taehyung’s voice.
“Open the door!” Taeyeon twisted the knob but it was locked. “I SWEAR I’M GOING TO STRANGLE YOU TO DEATH! OPEN UP!” She glared at her girlfriend when Tiffany tried to stop her.
The door soon creaked open and Taehyung’s sorry face peeked behind the door. “Please don’t kill me.” He raised his hands when Taeyeon grabbed his collar and pushed him into the room.
“H-hey. Stop it!” Tiffany held the girl’s shoulder but Taeyeon merely shrugged it off. “Taeyeon-ah…”
“Later!” She said exasperatedly before turning back to her brother. “You stupid little brat!” Her grip started to loosen as Taehyung looked at her apologetically. “I swear I’m going to punch your stupid face!” She shoved the young man away and pointed at him dangerously. “Talk. I’ll wait outside.”
