Red Skys and Royal Cards

“What did you go off to do with those Warriors?” D.O asked as he came back into the living room where I was sitting.

I was turning the letter over and over in my hand, the smooth paper running along my fingertips. The black wax seal was smooth with the bumps from the imprinted seal holding it close.

I wanted to open this letter, but was a little worried what it may contain. Was it even smart that I accepted this in the first place.

“I went to a meeting with Carter and had someone killed for killing Royals for their Cards.” I answered him offhandedly.

I turned the letter over and observed the black seal. The imprint was that of an infinity sign pressed into the wax.

I asked the question posed to me without much thought as I continued to toy with the envelope. “Carter’s bringing by the papers for me to authorize the execution later tonight.”

Finally, breaking the wax seal I pulled the crème parchment paper from the red envelope. Unfolding the heavy parchment I read the ink words carefully scrawled on it.

I am part of a group of students whose plan is to kill you when you arrive for your official appearance on Academy grounds.

I did not choose to join this extreme group willingly. It was my brother that brought me in, and it is with a heavy heart that I am turning the justice over to you.

While this may not excuse my actions for being a part of this group, I feel it my duty to inform you of this. I shall accept any penalty for my involvement.

I did not know whom to trust with this information. With the war spreading each day, I did not feel it wise to entrust this to anyone save you.

The last attack on Academy grounds was at the hands on of the members of this group and planned by everyone.

This group is based out of my older brother’s residence on campus. His residence is located in the north section of campus in the heart of the current fourth year district. Number 4789 on Heklet Road across from Derius Park. The group meets every other Saturday for six hours beginning at nine at night. There is no meeting this week.

This needs to be stopped before anyone is actually hurt. I do not want to see you or any other Dealer harmed.

I hope that with this information you are able to bring an end to the horror happening on this beloved campus.

-L

“.” I cursed as I read the letter over again a second time. No wonder he wanted this to get delivered to my parents desperately. But there was little I was able to do about it but get it to my parents.

“Chen, do you know where I put my phone?” I asked as I saw him passing the room.

“Kitchen counter, I think.” He answered as he continued on his way through the house.

So then, L wasn’t really part of the war. He wasn’t dangerous by himself. He had integrity to him.

But at the same time, this could still all be a trap to lure attention to this group to deviate it from somewhere else. Or harm anyone who tried to step in.

This was something I was unable to handle on my own. And while I’d love to be the heroine in this and go to the net meeting and put an end to this group, there was no way I could.

I had to hand this over to my mother to handle. And I had to inform her that this entire group might be aware that I am a Mimic. L’s brother knew and I was sure he informed the rest of that group of my capabilities.

I found my phone on the island in the kitchen. Unlocking it, I pulled up my contact list and scrolled to find my mother’s icon. Finding the number for the phone she took when she traveled, I dialled it and tried to reach her.

After five rings a voice filled the speaker. “The person you are trying to reach is out of the service area. Please leave a message and it will be delivered upon their return to an area of service provision.” Beep.

“I’ve got a major issue, Mom.” I recorded. “I’ll call Dad.”

I hung up with a sigh. Dialling my dad’s number from memory it only took a second for him to pick up. “Hey there, Baby Girl. What has you calling?”

“I can’t reach Mom.” I told him.

Dad sighed. “She’s away on business. If you need her desperately you can send a Warrior, either hers or mine, to get a message to her. They’ll know how to find her.”

“This isn’t something that can wait.” I told him. “If Mom can’t deal with this, I think you should. You are after all a Descendant, aren’t you?”

“This doesn’t sound like it’s going anywhere good, Sky. What’s going on?” He asked. His voice picking up a protective edge.

“A kid I know at the academy approached one of Mom’s Warriors while I was with them, and gave him a letter which I accepted. It was addressed to the Descendant.” I explained to my dad. “Basically, there’s a group of psychos on campus that are aiming to kill you and Mom when you come. I’ve got a location and some names. The kid’s involved, but innocent, I don’t want to see anything happen to him for stepping up with this.”

“I’m going to send a Warrior of mine over. Make sure the lights to the room you are in are off and he’ll appear in the shadows.” Dad said. “Give Atticus what this boy gave you and I will handle it from there. I’ll keep you informed of what is going on, in the case the kid you want to protect becomes involved. But stay away from this yourself.”

“I will, Dad. I promise.” I told him. “Oh!” I softly exclaimed.

“There’s something more, isn’t there?”

I shyly chuckled. “Yeah, the ring leader of the group knows I’m a Mimic.”

“Now you better stay away from this. Aura is going to have a fit if this isn’t contained and you get hurt in the process.” Dad groaned to himself before the line went dead and the beeping dial tone filtered from the earpiece.

There was nothing else for me to do as I shut the living room lights off and waited for my Dad’s Warrior to appear.

Lay and Suho wandered into the room when I was setting my phone down on the armrest beside me and found seats. They both had books i

Chapter 23: Hi Wynter~!
It’s been awhile and I hope that you’re doing well. I’ve noticed since all of the craziness that’s been happening that lots of people are reverting back to the things that brought them comfort when they were younger. This chapter reminded me of that and I wanted to say that this fic of yours is definitely something I truly hold near and dear to my heart.

It reminds me of simpler times in middle school and high school and all the times I’ve read this to escape reality. Your story brings me comfort and joy each and every time. Throughout college I’ve been trying to re-read this from the beginning whenever I can (I’m probably on attempt three or four now? Lol), but I never really had enough time to due to school. As I’m trying to read every single chapter again, I just wanted to say how thankful and grateful I am to you for creating this story. I and many others have thoroughly enjoyed it over the years, and will continue to for many more.

You are truly an amazing and talented writer, and it’s admirable how you can create worlds and bring this much happiness to so many people with your words. It’s crazy to see how much things have changed (for EXO) since the beginning chapters, but that’s just part of life haha. I sincerely wish and hope you’re doing well and that you’re taking care of yourself. Much love <3
