“Are you alright Sky?  You seem a little pale?”  Lay worriedly asked as Xiumin and I walked in from that back yard where my training just finished.

“I’m perfectly fine.”  I replied a little too quickly, which was clearly noticed and noted by the male currently looking me over.

“Are you sure?  You really don’t look well.”  He pressed again.  Coming around the counter he rested his hand on my forehead.  “You’re burning Sky, you are defiantly not fine.”

“Dammit Xiumin.”  Kris cursed, “You should know not to push her to hard.  She isn’t stable enough for all of this.”

Kris’ voice pounded through my head because of the increase in its volume.  Damn I didn’t feel like this moments ago, maybe I am over working myself but I have to keep going.  A little fever wasn’t going to stop me, I only had a handful of days left before the competition and I had to be at full strength and in full control by then.

“Get me a cool cloth Tao.”  Lay softly called to the younger near the kitchen sink.  Not long later Tao came over with a cold damp cloth in his hands.  “Sit down Sky, please.”  Lay pleaded as he moved me to the living room.

Once I was seated Lay sat down beside me and pulled me down so my head rested on his lap.  He set the cloth on my apparently heated skin.  My head hurt a little, but past that I really didn’t feel anything much.  I defiantly didn’t feel like I had a fever.  Working with Xiumin this morning probably just tired me out a little more than I originally thought.

Lay brushed my hair away from my forehead as he looked down at me with a slightly sad expression.  “Is something wrong Lay?”  I asked him softly.

He smiled at me kindly before shaking his head lightly, “No, I’m just worried about you getting sick on us again.  Plus I’m not very good a healing things like this with my Specialty.  Cuts, burises, sprains, strains and broken bones are one thing, fevers and colds are a little different unfortunately.”

“I’ll be fine Lay don’t worry.  Nothing I can’t get past with a little rest and something to take my mind of it.”  I said with a sigh as I looked up at the ceiling.

“You are not training in this state Sky.  You are to weak, something might go wrong.”  Lay worriedly said, his eyes widening when he figured out what kind of distraction I was asking for.

“I don’t have to luxury of holding off my training any longer because of a small fever that will pass in a few hours time.  I need to learn today Lay, please.  I need to get this all under control as soon as possible.”

“Your hurting yourself Sky.  Please don’t ask me to do this, don’t make me cause you more pain.  Please.”  He pleaded, his eyes looking down at me with silent pleas going unheard.

“I have to learn Lay, you have to understand me.”  I said looking away.  The longer I stared into his eyes the more my resolve broke.  The longer I watched him plead with me to give in the more I wanted to do just that.  But I had to stay strong on this; I needed to learn this soon.

“You really aren’t going to change your mind are you?”  He finally asked brushing more stands of hair away from the cloth, running his fingers through the silky strands a few times as if to calm himself.

“No, I’m not going to change my mind about this.”

Lay sighed in resignation, “Alright, I’ll teach you but I have a few conditions.”

  “What are they?”

“If you start to feel worse, we stop and wait for you to feel better again.”  I nodded to show him I agreed to his first term, “Second, Suho is going to be the only one helping us.”

  “Why?”

Lay looked down and locked his eyes with me Sky, “My power is healing Sky.  If you want to learn to control my power it will be by actually using it.  Theory is all well and good, but it’s almost useless with mine.”

He smiled a small smile, almost forced, “I can’t just take you somewhere and show you how it works.  I wish I could and it was that simple but it isn’t.  I can’t teach you without showing you exactly how it works and you can’t learn unless you try it hands on yourself.”

I don’t think I was going to like what was about to come out of his mouth next.  “We need someone with superficial injuries.  We need to hurt someone in order for you to learn.”

Yup I didn’t like what I just heard, not one little bit.  The one thing I should have thought about before hand never once crossed my thought.  I have to get one of my Warriors to – in out case – cut themselves so I can learn to heal these wounds.

“Isn’t there any other way?”  I chocked out.  I didn’t want to do this, I didn’t want to hurt the boys I swore to protect and not let get harmed because of me.

Lay’s eyes fluttered shut and that was answer enough for me.  There was no other way around this.  One of my Warriors had to continually hurt themselves until I could control this part of my Ability.  I had to do the one thing I hated the most.

I had to harm someone for my own gain.

Letting out a heavy sigh I looked up at Lay who still had his eyes closed and his head turned slightly away from me.  His tinted orange blonde hair had grown out a

Chapter 23: Hi Wynter~!
It’s been awhile and I hope that you’re doing well. I’ve noticed since all of the craziness that’s been happening that lots of people are reverting back to the things that brought them comfort when they were younger. This chapter reminded me of that and I wanted to say that this fic of yours is definitely something I truly hold near and dear to my heart.

It reminds me of simpler times in middle school and high school and all the times I’ve read this to escape reality. Your story brings me comfort and joy each and every time. Throughout college I’ve been trying to re-read this from the beginning whenever I can (I’m probably on attempt three or four now? Lol), but I never really had enough time to due to school. As I’m trying to read every single chapter again, I just wanted to say how thankful and grateful I am to you for creating this story. I and many others have thoroughly enjoyed it over the years, and will continue to for many more.

You are truly an amazing and talented writer, and it’s admirable how you can create worlds and bring this much happiness to so many people with your words. It’s crazy to see how much things have changed (for EXO) since the beginning chapters, but that’s just part of life haha. I sincerely wish and hope you’re doing well and that you’re taking care of yourself. Much love <3
