1* - The Claiming
Red Skys and Royal CardsIt all started on my thirteenth birthday. I was out in our large backyard staring up at the sky and watching the clouds like I loved to do since I was a child. I was always so fascinated by the sky, there was just something so breathtaking about it.
We had just finished lunch and my parents had gone out to work while I decided to just stay home and entertain myself until they came home from work.
It all happened so fast I can't remember all of it clearly.
What I can tell you is that within the span of a minute the sky began to darken, before it hazed over and turned a deep, bloody red that never faded away. The blue sky I used to love so much disappeared right before my eyes.
I can’t say I was all to saddened by its disappearance. I was at first, but the sky’s color soon began to grow on me. This one event was what shaped my life from that point onwards.
It was made a big deal when the sky first changed colors. The media was all over it, people were panicking thinking the world was coming to an end, and scientists began to theorize about what happened. No one has ever figure out what happened, but they still keep trying to figure it out. Not like it will do them much good.
I wasn’t all that concerned though. I can’t tell you why, I just had this feeling that it wasn’t something we needed to freak out over. I wasn’t the only one with this view. There were others who saw this as a new beginning and took advantage over the panic.
Many of the people who didn’t panic after the initial shock were the people who are now CEO’s of some of the biggest companies in the world. And I can’t blame them for getting their positions in the middle of the mass panic; it was a smart move, from everyone’s point of view.
The years went by and life was the same as always after the world calmed down. I continued high school, getting the best grades that I could possibly get, staying top of my class the whole way though my school life.
It was when university came along for me where the real story starts.

I walked into the kitchen to find my mother sitting at the table reading the newspaper. Just like she does every morning.
“Morning, Mom.” I greeted her around the mouthful of toast I was chomping on.
She looked up from the paper with that motherly look on her face, scolding me, “Really, Sky? Have your Dad and I
