taehyung was always a little shy when it came to his skin; it was such a dark colour, and he had a handful of freckles sprinkled onto him. when he looked around him, he mostly saw pale; pale, pale, pale. people doing unhealthy bleaching, people painting on concealer too many shades brighter than their skin colour, naturally pale people. everyone was pale and porcelain, and there he was, all dark, almost a gray shade of brown, and dotted with freckles. he doesn't necessarily feel disgusted with his skin colour, he just feels a little left out. sometimes he gets picked on too for being too "black", but he's learned to block out all of that stuff.

so sometimes taehyung looks in the mirror and frowns at himself. he doesn't necessarily feel disgusted, but he wonders why he came out so tan. he says it's because he is out in the sun a lot when questioned, which isn't wrong, but he was always on the darker side. always too "black" to be with the cooler kids, always had too many freckles to be with the popular kids, every excuse that could be used that fits taehyung, taehyung has more likely heard

but when jimin comes up behind taehyung, hugging him from behind and pressing light kisses into his shoulders, taehyung feels like he's beautiful. jimin tells him that his freckles are pretty little stars; jimin tells him that his colour is simply breathtaking.

"i didn't think you were real when i first saw you," jimin always says, a little shy giggle following. "you looked too gorgeous to be real."

and taehyung smiles at himself in the mirror because if someone as beautiful and precious as jimin loves him and thinks he's simply stunning, then he can't be so bad.
