Yerin takes out her sketchbook and casually scans her doodles she made for homework.  Flipping page-by-page, she takes mental notes on why points were taken off and how she could do it better next time.  She picks up her pencil as she goes to the next page that is blank.

"These pencils might be sharp, but you have the best point."  A boy says as he sits next to her, putting his bag beside him.

Yerin rolls her eyes and looked up at him.  "Sorry, Eunwoo,"  She smirked, "it didn't work."  She said, clearly picking up on his flirting entrance.

He snaps his finger and took out his sketchbook.  "Oh well, I'll capture your heart next time like I captured these flowers."  He said, showing his work from last night.

To say she was impressed would be an understatement.  However, she wouldn't admit that it looks nice.  "Ehh, it would have been better if you added a petal here."  She pointed.

"I see.."  Eunwoo's tone went down a bit.

She looked at him with a concerned eye.  However, his low mood came back to being high.  "Next week is your birthday,"  He mentioned, "so I want to treat you to something special."  He said.

She laughed and shook her head.  "I forgot all about it.."  She lied.  "I rather just practice that day, if you don't mind."  She requested kindly.

He poked her with his pencil cap.  "No way, you're clearing out your schedule."  He said, leaving no room for her to protest.

She was about to argue, however the teacher came in.  "Darn you.."  She muttered and he smirked.

Yerin dresses in a casual outfit today.  Saturdays are days to just unwind and be yourself.  And this Saturday happens to be her birthday.  She decided to sit back and comfortably draw things in her room.  From the bed spread Eunwoo bought her for her birthday five years ago to the panda he got for her last Valentine's Day, she drew.

She wouldn't tell him that the things he does for her makes her heart beat faster.  Does he know he's flirting?  She asked herself.  Childhood friends are like that: they are close to each other and don't realize what they do or say to each other could be seen as flirting to other people.  But to them, it was just something they did.

Even though they have only known each other for six years out of their twenty-three years of life, they've gone through so much together.

Her mind drifted off to Eunwoo's handsome smile to his smart actions.  How he could be clumsy one minute but then be the smartest person in the world.  She snapped back into reality when she heard the doorbell.  She looked at her sketchbook and saw that she had drawn Eunwoo and her in a kissing stance.

"Yerin!"  She scolded herself as she ripped the paper out of the book and crumpled it up.  "Just remember how he used to pick his nose and tell fart jokes with the other boys.."  She muttered to herself.

She sat upright when her bedroom door was knocked on.  "Yerin, Dear, Eunwoo is downstairs."  She heard her mother say from the other side of the door.

Remembering that Eunwoo was supposed to take her out today, she instantly grabbed her phone and wallet.  She stuffed them in her back pockets and went downstairs.  "What?"  She said with a fake annoyed tone.

"Happy birthday, Yerin~"  He cheered.  "And as a present, I would like you to come eat at my grandma's house."  He said.

Yerin rolled her eyes.  "Fine, only because there's free food.."  She stepped out of the house with him.  "That and I like your car."  She said as she opened the car door.

Eunwoo chuckled and shook his head as she started playing with the stereo.  "So my grandma said she wanted to make a meal for you."  He started.  "You know how her cooking is."

"All you do is say that her food is good,"  She mentioned,  "of course I want to eat and see for myself.."  Yerin laughed.

"Good,"  He smirked, "that and she likes to come up with new games.  She wants you to have fun."  He said.

Yerin huffed.  "What, does she think I'm twelve?"  She asked sarcastically.

She smiled as Eunwoo shrugged.  She sat back and let the music play.  Thanking whoever's listening that Eunwoo hasn't flirted once during the trip.

"I drew so many lines last night,"  Eunwoo started, "I hope one of them will lead to your heart."  He said as he put on his turn signal.

Yerin rolled her eyes.  Seriously, ruin the drive in less than a second..

---

Arriving, the duo look at each other with confused eyes.  The lights in the house seem to be off, even though the grandmother was said to be inside.  Eunwoo hums and knocks on the door.

"She spoke a lot about cooking, I doubt she would miss cooking without telling us."  He said with a concerned eye.  "I have a key.. so.."  He took out the key and opened the door.

Yerin walked in behind him.  She tried switching the light on.  However, it wouldn't turn on.  "Why aren't the lights working?"  Yerin asked, keeping her shoes on as they travel deeper into the house.

"I'm not for sure,"  Eunwoo pouted, "I'll go check the breaker."  He said, leaving her side.

She watched him leave down a hallway.  Meanwhile, she started the journey to find the sweet, old lady that she had never met before.  Out of all the years they've spent together, not once has she met the grandmother that Eunwoo talks so much about.

Her legs shake as something makes a noise in the kitchen.  "Mrs. Cha?"  She called out.  "Are you in here?"  She asked, looking around the kitchen.

However, there was no one in the kitchen.  She heard something move at the stairs that were in the kitchen, a second staircase for the upstairs.  She cautiously went to the stairs, looking up the steps.  She swallowed harshly as she saw a ball on the landing.  It moved on its own, coming down the steps slowly.

With each thump, her heart beated faster.  Once it reached the toe of her shoe, she looked back up, expecting a demon.  She was relieved when nothing was there.  Her breath hitched when there was a creak at the top of the stairs.  M-maybe she's having a hard time coming down the stairs?  She tried to give herself false hope.

Her legs shake as she went up the stairs.  Once she met the top of the stairs, she heard a faint cackle from the end of the hallway.  She slowly made her way to the cracked door.

She slowly pushed the door open and saw a lump in the bed.  She saw whatever was in there moving and screaming.  And that's when she let out the screech she'd been holding in from the beginning/

"AhhH!  She screamed and hid her face in her arms.

"Haha!  I got you!"  Eunwoo chuckled as he the light behind Yerin.

Yerin was confused and saw the old lady take the blanket off.  "Did I do well, Sweetie?"  The grandma asked.

"Perfect, Gramma~"  He giggled before putting an arm around Yerin.

She punched his shoulder a few times.  "You idiot!!"  She weakly punched his chest.  "I hate you, I hate you!!"  She wiped a tear.

Eunwoo chuckled as her punches were slowly dying.  "But.. You better be glad I love you.. otherwise I would throw you over the stairs.."  She muttered.

Eunwoo nodded and patted her back.  "So you do love me?"  He said with a smirk.

Yerin noticed what she said.  "As a friend!!"  She shouted at him.

"Okay, okay."  Eunwoo put his hands up.  "Grandma's gonna start cooking now."  He said.

Yerin folded her arms and pushed past the boy.  He sighed and looked down.  Happy birthday.. I know I don't have any chances with you, and especially not now.. But I hope I can still adore you next year too..

Unknown to him, Yerin had blushed cheeks as she was walking downstairs.  He's such an idiot.. I love him.. Maybe a little more than just a friend.  She sighed and started helping the old woman with the cooking.

The horror house turned out to be Eunwoo's grandma's house hehe
Although she almost had a heart attack, Yerin enjoyed her birthday.
I felt a bittersweet ending with this one, being that Yerin didn't like Eunwoo's constant flirting.  But of course she finds him to be sweet still ;)

Chapter 209: I appreciate your vision! This is definitely not what I have in mind so it is even better that you were able to spin my prompt in an entirely different direction.

Minghao's life was truly sad, and I'm glad he had Ella with him to weather through that. I thought the love between them were going to remain platonic, but I'm glad Minghao realized what that love truly meant for him in the end. I was a bit skeptical with the use of Sister and Brother to refer to each other, how do you think they got over that? Were they only calling each other that to keep up the facade (especially on Ella's part, as if she is trying to keep her feelings away, that sort of thing)?

Anyways thank you so much for this! ♥️♥️♥️
