Hanna breathed in and out as she sat in the waiting room. She was waiting for her name to be called, and once she was called, she made a steady line to the room that houses her future. Hanna Park is a twenty-six year-old woman who has been studying for many years to be a pediatrician.  She has always liked taking care of kids, as she has three younger siblings that she took care of most of her childhood.

Taking care of children is Hanna's passion.  Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughs made all the bad times worth it.  "We have discussed your resume and we have decided to add you to our team."  The man said, looking up from Hanna's file.  "We expect great things coming from you, Miss Park."  He said.

Hanna bowed in her set.  "Thank you so much, Dr. Byun."  She stood up.  "When should I start?"  She asked.

He followed suit, walking around his desk.  "As soon as you can ready yourself."  He said.  "Can you start today?"  He asked.

"I can, I just need to put my files in my car."  She pointed to the parking lot.

He nodded.  "Very good, we have a lot of children here that need attention."  He mentioned.

Hanna put her file in her car and locked the box.  She breathed in and out before taking out her phone.  She contemplated whether or not she should call her boyfriend, but decided to since he to tell him the results of the interview.  She clicked on his contact and readied herself for the video call.

"Hey there, Dr. Park." Kihyun greeted.  "How did your interview go?"  He asked.

Hanna blushed and looked elsewhere.  "I.. I got hired."  She said with a shy voice.

"Hm?"

"I got hired."

"I knew you would."  Kihyun teased and looked at her red cheeks.  "I'm really proud of you, Hanna.  You've worked really hard for this, so pat yourself on the back.

"I want to see your smile while you work hard."  Kihyun continued.  "And if you ever need anything, and I mean anything at all, I'm right there next to you."  He promised.

Hanna knew that his words were honest.  "I love you."  She said softly.

Kihyun smiled, sending thousands of sparkles to Hanna's heart.  "I love you too."  He returned.  "You need to get back inside now, so don't let me hold you."  He teasingly shooed her away.

She giggled and nodded.  "See you at home, Ki-ki."  She waved.

"You too, Ha-ha."  He had the last word as he hung up.

She huffed at the nickname.  "This guy.."  She shook her head.

She then made her way back into the building.  Walking into the waiting room, she saw kids with their parents waiting.  Hanna walked along the colored line on the wall, indicating staff can only go this way.  Once in the back, she saw a couple doctors standing there getting their little snacks.

One that she recognized was her all-time friend.  "Hyungwon!"  She walked up to him.

He put his fork down and gave her a smile.  "Hanna, I was so excited when I heard Dr. Byun hired you."  He put her arms around her.  "Congratulations."  He said.

Hanna smiled and closed her eyes from his warm hug.  "Do you know where I can get one of those fancy jackets?"  She asked, looking at the coat.

"You're starting right after your interview, huh?"  He asked, getting a nod in return.  "Okay, it's probably in your locker."  He guided her away.

"You probably even have your lanyard already."  He chuckled, looking around the lockers that had locks on them aside from one at the end.

Hanna opened it to see a lanyard was placed inside  It had her name on it and her status.  She put it around her neck followed by the other necessary equipment.  "And each exam room will have blood pressure monitors, gloves, sanitizers, band-aids, and all of that good stuff."  Hyungwon winked.

"Thanks, Hyung."  She smiled.  "Obviously I want to be here, but I'm still really nervous."  She put her hands together.

Hyungwon gave a soft expression, something that always had her calm down in school.  "It's fine, Hanna.  You have me and the rest of the team.

"One day, you'll be the one helping the new, nervous doctors."  He said.  "You got this, Sis."  He put his fist up for a bump.

She blushed and bumped it.  "Let's work hard."  She said.

Hanna would say that she is loving her job.  She gets to meet so many children and their parents during the day and she gets to go home and see her boyfriend in the evenings.  She smiles often, but she also bumps into tables often.  She might drop a glove or two, read numbers backwards, or approach a situation a bit roughly.  In fact, Hanna just dropped a band-aid on the floor.

She inwardly sighed before reaching for another one.  "There you go, Gongchan-ah."  She said softly, smiling at the child.

The child looked at the cartoon-print band-aid on the floor.  "Thank you, Ma'am."  He said, looking back up at her with a little smile.

Hanna patted his head.  "Your boo-boo will be gone in no time."  She assured.  "Make sure your mommy kisses your finger once a night, okay?"  She said, helping him off of the exam table.

The child pouted a little.  "Kisses..?  Fine.."  He grumbled.

Hanna chuckled and looked at the mother.  They bow to one another before Hanna is left alone in the room.  Hanna gave a little sigh as she cleaned up the exam room.  "..so many things are being dropped.."  She muttered as she picked up the band-aid.

The door opened, surprising Hanna.  Another doctor, Minhyuk, had an urgent look on his features.  "Dr. Park, your patient is in a critical state."  He said.

Hanna dropped the band-aid and followed after Minhyuk.  Upon entering the hospital room, she saw a little girl shaking.  "What happened?"  Hanna asked.

"I came in here to check Yeri's temperature, but I found her like this."  The nurse said.

Hanna looked around before picking up the blood sugar meter.  "Yeri is type two diabetic.  Have you injected insulin lately?"  She asked.

"I did."  The nurse answered.

"Her sugar is low, give me the glucagon."  She said, looking at Minhyuk.

Minhyuk looked in each and every drawer.  "I don't.."  He looked at her.

"What?  I put.."  Hanna looked down.  "I forgot to restock the drawer.."  She realized.

The nurse and Minhyuk look at her with judging eyes.  "Okay, okay, I'll go find some."  Hanna ran out of the room.

She looked at all of the vials of medicine until she found it.  She stuck the needle inside, not worrying about the measurement as of now.  Bringing the bottle and syringe, she ran toward the room once more.

"Ow!"  She ran into another doctor.  "Sorry!"  She waved before getting into the room.

She took Yeji's arm and poked the needle through, injecting the sugar.  "We need to wait fifteen minutes."  Hanna said.

The nurse nodded and put her hands together.  Minhyuk put his hand on Hanna's shoulder.  "We and Dr. Byun need to have a talk once she's stable."  He said.

Hanna furrowed her eyebrows and nodded.  "Yes, Sir."  She bowed.

When the patient's levels were stable, Hanna silently excused herself to go to Dr. Byun's office.  She had her head low as she fought letting a tear escape.  You must be strong, she told herself, people make mistakes, I shouldn't let it get to me.  She continued, trying to think positive things.

She bowed to the senior doctor and sat down in front of him.  "You know why I'm speaking to you, right?"  He asked.

"Yes, Sir,"  She lowered her head, "I should have made sure I put more medicine in the room."  She said.

He hummed.  "Dr. Park, this isn't the first time that you forgot to do something."  He said.  "You have been here for a month, but all of this week, you have been slipping or dropping something.

"I was going to excuse it, but you put a child's life at risk today."  He said.  "I can't allow this to happen in my practice.  I'm sorry, Dr. Park"  He continued.

Hanna fought the tear, but it went down her cheek anyway.  "Are.. Are you firing me?"  She asked in a shaky voice.

He shook his head.  "I'll give you another two weeks."  He put two fingers up.  "One week to recover from today, and one week to show me you're getting stronger."  He explained.

She nodded and stood up.  "Thank you, Dr. Byun."  She bowed.  "I'm truly in your debt."  She bowed once more.

He watched her hair follow her down with the bow.  "Compose yourself and get back to work, please."  He requested.

She bowed once more before exiting the office.

Evening came and Kihyun was already in the kitchen.  Hanna smelled the fried rice cooking in the air along with chicken and beef soup.  Having a chef as a boyfriend, Hanna can't thank the man enough for filling her every long day.  Kihyun felt a pair of arms go around his waist.  He smiled as he continued to look at the food.

"How was work today, Han?"  Kihyun asked.

She shrugged with a little hum.  "There have been better days."  She admitted.

Kihyun put the lid on the pot before softly turning around.  "Is it getting stressful?"  He asked.  She simply nodded.  "If you ever need a break.."

"It's not like that,"  She said, "there have been some tricky moments lately."  She continued.  "But it's part of my profession, it's fine."  She insisted.

He had a concerned look on his features.  "But Love, you're supposed to be happy while doing your job, not stressed."  He said, putting his hand through her hair.  "Which part has been the most stressful, hm?  He asked.

Hanna wanted to be open, she knew that he would care for her even if it was her dropping a pencil too often.  Which she does.  But she also needs to learn how to be strong for herself.  "I suppose just the depressing parts.  Telling the children how they are."  She sort of told the truth.  "And I've been a bit clumsy too."  She included.

He nodded.  "I can get that, it would be tough on me too."  He agreed.  "If you ever want to talk about it or want a hug, I'm here."  He reminded.

She smiled.  "I know, thank you."  She hugged him.

Kihyun patted her back and kissed her head.  "I made a lot of food today, so I better watch you eat a lot."  He teased.

"Yes, Sir~"  She teased back, poking his shoulder.

***

Hanna was feeling a little better this week from Kihyun's support.  She had only tripped once or twice, but that was in the break room.  She remembered to keep the rooms stalked with medicines, and she remembered to apologize to the child.

She flipped her hair before putting it up in a hair tie.  She straightened her coat before walking down the hallway.  She had confidence in her steps, and Hyungwon noticed it.  He nodded with a smile and handed her a folder.

"Alice Wilson flew in from California to get a surgery and receive special care afterward."  Hyungwon said.  "You got the aftercare?"  He asked.

She hummed, looking through her file.  "She has the middle stages of emphysema."  She read aloud.  "But she's having surgery on her leg."  She continued.

Hyungwon hummed.  "Dr. Byun will operate on her."  He said.  "You got this though?"  He asked.

Hanna sighed.  "I am a bit nervous.."  She said.  "Am I not a good doctor?"  She asked.

Hyungwon lifted his eyebrows, seeing all of her confidence fly away from her.  "What do you mean?  You're awesome."  He said.  "What's making you doubt yourself?"  He asked, walking her away from the waiting room.

Once they reached the break room, Hanna sat down.  "It's just.. Every way I turn, whatever I do, Minhyuk and Baekhyun are always upset at me."  She opened up.  "Even before that moment with the glucagon."  She looked up at Hyungwon.

Hyungwon looked at her and held her hand.  "Hey, Sis.."  He sat down next to her.  "You're doing just fine."  He said.  "You're still getting used to this place.  It took me a couple of months to not be the rookie."  He continued.

"But.. I just.. Even while causing almost no accidents this week, I see Minhyuk glaring at me like he's ready to fire me on the spot."  She tried fighting her tears.

"He just wants a sound team, he's particular like that."  Hyungwon said.  "But you have my support, I'll fight for you all the way.

"And you know so well that Kihyun has your back too."  He side hugged her.

She sighed and looked at the table.  "I shouldn't make him listen to all of my problems."  She said.  "All throughout school, I always ran to him when I had problems.  He deserves a break."  She muttered.

Hyungwon shook his head.  "Kihyun is your boyfriend, Hanna, it's his role to listen to you."  He chuckled.  "But I get it.  Let's calm down here before we go back.  Both you and I can work on the aftercare of the patient."  He insisted.

She nodded and put her arms around him.  "Thank you, Hyung."  She said.

Three nights passed.  Hanna's position at the hospital had made her stay the few nights there.  Watching over the kids' statuses.  Hyungwon decided to take over all of tonight as Hanna was still feeling low.  "You've done plenty,"  Hyungwon said, "come back tomorrow morning, okay?"  He insisted.

She nodded and put her bag on her shoulder.  She drove back to her house where she smelled Kihyun's beautiful cooking.  She smiled at the clean air and atmosphere.  "I hear you,"  He said as she quietly entered the kitchen, "I'm so glad you're here."  He turned around.

She had a look of guilt in her eyes, but the smile remained on her expression.  "It's been a bit busy at the hospital."  She gave her excuse.

He hummed.  "And pretty stressful, huh?"  He asked.

"A little.."  She muttered.

"Hanna Park."  He called her name, making her look up at him.  "Hyungwon told me what happened."  He said.

Hanna widened her eyes.  "He-he did?"  She stuttered.

Kihyun nodded, briefly turning off the burner so that he could pay attention to her.  "He told me what happened in the child's room and what Dr. Byun had to say."  He explained.  "I thought I told you that I'm here for you.

"Why didn't you tell me your job was hanging on its last threads?" He asked.

Hanna breathed in and out.  "I.. I told you that things had been a bit rough, but I didn't want you to have my entire burden on you."  She said honestly.

Kihyun looked around the kitchen with his eyes.  "Hanna, how are we supposed to be a married couple when you don't express your concerns to me?"  He asked.

"We're not married.."  She corrected him.

"Exactly."  He said.  "I want to marry you, you're the love of my life."  He held his chest.  "I want to take care of you and make sure that you're happy.  But I can't do that unless you tell me your feelings."  He said softly, but was still a little upset.

She closed her eyes.  "I'm sorry.."  She muttered.

He put his arms around her.  "I'm here for you all the way, Hanna."  He said.  "No matter what it is, I have you, okay?  Don't ever be afraid of me or hesitate to tell me something.

"I want your burdens, I want to take them and make them disappear."  He smiled.  "Only if you'll let me.."  He whispered.

She hugged him back.  "I love you."  She said.

"I love you too."  He didn't hesitate to say.  "Let's eat some food and then cuddle, hm?  Here's something that's been on my mind: I want to cuddle."  He chuckled.

She laughed and poked him.  "Okay, Cutie."

“And don’t always go to Hyungwon either, you don’t want me when I’m jealous.”  Kihyun added.

Hanna raised her eyebrows with an interested smile.  “Psh, jealous?  Don’t even, he’s our friend.”  She corrected.

Kihyun hummed.  “But maybe I expect to have more hugs and talks from you?”  He sat down across from the girl.

Hanna shook her head.  “You seriously are a kid, huh?”  She asked.

“I’ll be a kid if you’re the one paying special attention to me all day and dying over my cuteness.”  Kihyun said, his eyes were crescents and his teeth were showing.

“Oh shut up.”

Kihyun chuckled evilly.

Kihyun just wants to be heavily involved with everything Hanna does, that's all.

Chapter 209: I appreciate your vision! This is definitely not what I have in mind so it is even better that you were able to spin my prompt in an entirely different direction.

Minghao's life was truly sad, and I'm glad he had Ella with him to weather through that. I thought the love between them were going to remain platonic, but I'm glad Minghao realized what that love truly meant for him in the end. I was a bit skeptical with the use of Sister and Brother to refer to each other, how do you think they got over that? Were they only calling each other that to keep up the facade (especially on Ella's part, as if she is trying to keep her feelings away, that sort of thing)?

Anyways thank you so much for this! ♥️♥️♥️
