Between Us

Me And The Girl Next Door

"We need to talk..."

Wes looked back, and saw Sam walking up to him. Everyone has left the classroom after the class bell rang, and it was him and Sam left inside the room. "What is it?" Wes said. Sam walked towards him, and stuffed his hand on his pocket. "What is Sylvia to you?" Sam asked.

Wes was taken aback from his question. "What do you mean?" Wes asked him. Sam gave him a serious look. "Let me rephrase that question. What do you really feel for Sylvia? Is she still like a little sister to you?" Sam asked him. Wes let out a sigh. "I don't know what you're trying to imply..." Wes said.

Sam let out a smirk. "Don't you think I didn't notice? The way you look at her, the way you held her... something has changed with the way you treat her." he told her. Then, he folded his arm as he glared at him. "Go straight to the point. What do you want to know?" Wes told him. "Are you in love with Sylvia?" Sam asked.

Wes paused for a while as he looked at him. "Yes. I am in love with Sylvia." he told her. Sam let out a bitter laugh as he folded his arms. "So now I know why you didn't want me near her..." he said. "I just don't want you to hurt her again, like the last time!" Wes told him.

He took a deep breath, and turned to face him again. "My feelings for her had nothing to do with this."

"It does, Wes. It does. Because you see me as a threat, right? Are you scared she will choose to be with me again?"

"I'm scared that if she chose you, you'll hurt her again. You broke her before, I'm not going to let that happen."

"It's not going to happen anymore. I'm not going to hurt her because I'm choosing her this time."

Wes let out a sigh. "You should have done that in the first place. If you really did love her before, you wouldn't choose to be with another girl. You weren't there when she was crying in the rain because you broke her heart! You didn't ran after her and find her hiding from the world. The truth is, you don't know how to love her. You want the best of both worlds, even if it means hurting her. You said you loved that girl much longer that you loved Sylvia, and now what? You're back here, trying to win her heart again?"

Sam looked away from him. "I love Sylvia..." he said in a low voice. "I love her too. And I'm not going to lose to you." Wes said. Sam faced him, and walked up to him. "Give me a fair fight." he told him. "Give me a fair fight to prove how sorry I am for what I have done, that I'm worthy of a second chance. Let Sylvia choose between the two of us, who do she love the most." Sam told him.

Wes looked at him for a long time before making a decision. "Fine. I'm giving you a fair chance to  win her heart back again. And I'm going to fight you with my life for it." Wes told him. The two glared at each other for a long time, before Pei Ci entered the classroom.

--

Wayne shook his head as he listened to Wes. "What will you do now? I thought Sylvia wants to be just best friends with you." he told him. "I need to do what I have to do to protect her." Wes said. "Even if it means risking your friendship with her?" Wayne asked.

Wes let out a sigh. He looked away from Wayne, as his face turned into a sad one. "But I love her. I really do. Even if she gets mad at me for telling her how I feel, if it's the only way I can protect her, then I'll do it." Wes said. Wayne sighed as well as he looked at his best bud. "But, have you considered what Fei Fei feels?" he asked.

Wes gave him a confused look. "What will she say about this? What if Fei Fei doesn't love Sam anymore? What if she feels the same way for you? What if in the end, she chose no one between the two of you?" Wayne said. Wes fell silent. Wayne's right. He should have considered how Sylvia would feel. He knew there's a lot of possibilities. But one thing's for sure - he can't let Sam win this time.

Sam vs. Wes Part 1: Breakfast

Wes held a bag of food in his hand, and smiled to himself. "I'm pretty sure Sylvia will love her breakfast today." he said to himself. As he looked up, he saw Sam walking from the opposite direction. He was also holding a bag of food, which he assumes as his breakfast.

It was as if there was an electricity coming out of their eyes as they looked at each other. "Oh no, you won't..." Wes thought. "Breakfast, huh? You won't be able to give it to her unless I arrive at the room first!" Sam said. Then, Sam ran towards the classroom, and Wes soon followed. They raced until they could reach Sylvia's desk.

By the time they reached Sylvia's desk, both of them were breathless from running so fast. "Sylvia, I bought you breakfast!" both of them said. Then, the two of them glared at each other. Sylvia just gave the two a confused look.

"Baby girl, I brought you some cake!"

They heard Pei Ci say. They saw Sylvia's face lightened up upon hearing that. "Cake!" she said happily. She stood up from her seat, and ignored the two. She walked up to Pei Ci as she gave her a box of cake. "Good thing the cake shop is already open on my way here, so I bought that for you. I'm sure you're going to like it." Pei Ci said to her with a wink. Sylvia smiled happily at her. "Thank you, Xiao Ci!" she said before hugging her.

Sam and Wes just watched the two. As Pei Ci looked at the two boys, she stuck a tongue at them.

Sam vs. Wes Part 2: Partners

"OK, for the next activity, I need you guys to partner up." Ms. Han said as soon as she started the class. Wes looked at Sylvia's back, and smiled to himself. "She's going to choose me as her partner." he thought confidently. Then, he looked at Sam, and smirked at him.

"This guy, he thought Sylvia will choose him, huh?" he thought. Sam stood up from his seat, and approached Sylvia. "Let's be partners." he told her. Wes stood up from his seat, and smirked at Sam. "She is my partner." Wes said.

The two of them glared at each other. If looks could kill, both of them would be dead by now. "But... Pei Ci is already my partner..." Sylvia said. Both of them were surprised at what she said. They both looked at her with confusion on their faces.

"Baby girl, do you want to do the activity by my desk?" Pei Ci asked as she approached her. Sylvia smiled, and nodded her head. Pei Ci extended her hand to Sylvia, and helped her to stand up. As they went to Pei Ci's desk, Pei Ci looked back at the two, and stuck her tongue out to the two.

Wayne couldn't help but snicker at what happened. "Stop it!" Diana hissed as she hit his arm. Wayne could only flinch in pain. "Sam, Wes, why don't you two partner up for this activity?" they heard Ms. Han said.

This time, Wayne couldn't help but burst out laughing.

Sam vs. Wes Part 3: Let Me Carry That

"P'Sylvia, I'm sorry to trouble you, but I need help to carry the modules back here in the classroom." Sunnee said as she approached her. Sylvia looked at her, and smiled. "Sure! Where will we get it?" she asked. "At the teacher's room. Mr. Yan said we will be needing it this afternoon." Sunnee told her.

Then, Wes popped out beside Sunnee. "Sunnee, let me and Sylvia take care of the modules. Why don't you go and find Dylan for now?" Wes told her. Sunnee smiled awkwardly as she scratched her head. Then, Sam appeared from Sunnee's other side. "No, Sunnee. I'll help Sylvia carry the modules instead." Sam said, glaring at Wes.

"Guys..." Sylvia said as she stood up to stop the two. "I'm the class president, so I should do it with Sylvia." Wes said. As he stepped forward, Sunnee got  squeezed between the two boys. "It's all right. I can -" Sunnee tried to say.

"But I am stronger than you." Sam said, making a step towards him. Sunnee became stuck between the two boys. "Guys... please?" Sylvia told them. They didn't notice they are squeezing Sunnee between them. "I can't breathe... help!" Sunnee said, as she looked helplessly at Sylvia.

The two glared at each other, each making a step towards another, and squeezing Sunnee even further. "What are you doing to my girlfriend?!" they heard someone shouting. Sylvia could only smack herself in the head as Dylan entered their classroom angrily. He pulled Sunnee between the two boys, and glared at them.

"Are you harassing my girl?!" he asked them angrily. Facing the student council president's wrath made the two look like scaredy cats. "No, we're not. We didn't mean it." Wes explained. "We didn't see Sunnee, I'm sorry. " Sam explained. This made Dylan more angry.

"You didn't see her?! She was just between the two of you all these time!" Dylan shouted at the two. Sunnee tried to appease her angry boyfriend. "Raccoon, it's OK. They didn't mean it." Sunnee said.

Dylan looked at her as she put his hand on her shoulder. "Are you OK? Are you hurt?" he asked worriedly. Sunnee shook her head. "But can you help me get and carry the modules?" Sunnee asked. Dylan softened as he smiled at her. "You should have asked for my help in the first place." he said as he patted her head.

The two left the room, but not before Dylan looked back at the two angrily as he pointed his V-shaped fingers to his eyes, and pointed it back to them.

--

Sylvia went to the school garden to be alone for a while. Being around Wes and Sam made her feel uneasy. "What's wrong with those two? Why are they competing for my attention?" she asked herself.

"Ah, you have noticed that too huh?" she heard someone say. She looked back, and saw Wayne walking up to her. "I'm pretty sure you want to be alone to get away from those two." he said, sitting beside her. Sylvia nodded her head. "Both of them were acting so weird today. I don't know why." she said.

Wayne laughed as he looked away from her. "You do know, both of them are trying to win your heart..." Wayne said. Sylvia gave him a confused look. "Sam wants another chance to be with you. And Zheng... well..."

"Zheng still likes me, does he?" she asked.

Wayne let out a sigh. "He wanted to protect you from Sam. He felt that if you get back with Sam, he'll hurt you like he did before." Wayne explained. Sylvia sighed as she looked down on her feet. "So, he's just protecting me like the big brother that he is?" she asked sadly. "Why? Do you want Zheng to feel something else for you, other than his best friend and little sister?" Wayne asked.

Sylvia looked at Wayne, unable to answer his question. "What do you feel about Zheng?" he asked. "If I tell you, I have to kill you." she said. Wayne let out a laugh.  "But, if you were in my position. Who will you choose? Zheng or Sam?" she asked. "It's simple. I'll choose the one I love." Wayne said. Then, he smiled at her. "The question is, do you know who between them do you love the most?" he asked.

Sylvia let out a sigh. She knew she couldn't answer that question, for she's confused herself.
