Starting off the SHOCKING chapter with this: 

One in the morning and Kai was not sleeping. Well, he had been sleeping before his phone ringing woke him up. Eyes still closed, he answered it thinking Taemin had had a nightmare again, but was surprised when a different voice spoke in his ear.

“K-Kai?”

Hyemi. Hyemi was calling him.

“H-Hyemi noona?” he asked to make sure, now sitting up completely in his bed.

“Yeah, it’s me. I-I just wanted to say that I don’t think I can meet up with you…I’m just…,” she trailed, her voice sounding unsteady.

“Oh…,” Kai said disappointedly, “W-Well, don’t say that. Maybe we can sometime. I’ll even pay for an hour!”

“Kai—,” she started but was cut off by the voices in the background. Kai furrowed his brow in concentration trying to hear what they were saying, but sighed when he couldn’t understand a thing.

“Kai,” she said, this time sounding more hurried. “You’re a very sweet guy and I wish I could get to know you better, but I simply can’t. Don’t call back at all and don’t look for me. I really like you, Kai, okay? I-I gotta go know.”

“Noona? Wait!”

The line went dead and Kai didn’t know what to think. She said not to call back….she said she liked him…It sounded like this was the last time they could talk?

It wasn’t right?

Kai didn’t get any sleep that night, his thoughts racing about all the “what ifs”.
