Splinters
Best Friends
“Ow!” Kai screamed, startling Taemin.
The two eleven year-old’s were playing on the playground at school. Kai, who had been running his hands along the railing and the wooden walls of the play set, had contracted a splinter.
He wasn’t crying, it was only a splinter. But it still hurt a lot. It hurt a lot more than he figured it should’ve. It wasn’t until he actually looked at it that he realized the splinter was underneath the nail, making him curse mentally.
Splinters that got underneath the nails were such a pain.
Kai tried to grasp the little sliver of wood but winced and stopped every time it became too painful. A lot of other kids probably would have gotten it out by now, but he was such a wimp when it came to pain. It was something Taemin would often about.
“Kai,” Taemin said beside him. “Do you need me to do it for you?”
Kai didn’t say anything but just nodded. He raised his finger to his friend and Taemin inspected it, trying to find the sliver.
Quickly, Taemin grasped the sliver with the tips of his nails and while ignoring Kai’s pained yell, he yanked it out and tossed it to the ground. He heard Kai whimper (rather pathetically) and brought the finger to his lips, giving a short kiss.
“There, all better,” Taemin said, smiling.
“T-Thanks, hyung…”
“You’re welcome.”
For the remainder of the day, Kai mentally cursed splinters and hoped they all died.
I hate those kinds of splinters.
