Getting Along
Best Friends
It was still the day of Jonghyun’s birthday party, though now it was starting to get later and some guests had already left. Kai and SaeJin had eventually moved back inside the house for cake—it was strawberry since Jonghyun had nearly had a fit when his mother was joking about making a chocolate—and the dropping temperature.
They didn’t talk to anyone really and even Jonghyun was avoiding them; they were well aware of that since they knew he was trying to get them together. So the they hung out in the kitchen where there was no people and plenty of food—Kai had learned that he and SaeJin both had a love for that—that they could munch on.
“Hand me those carrots?” SaeJin asked, pointing to the orange vegetable in a bowl on the table that was colder to Kai. Kai complied, handing her the whole bowl, taking some grapes while he was at it.
“So, I assume you’re in college now,” Kai guessed, looking at her expectantly.
“Yeah, I do and it . I mean, the classes are alright, but I hate the teachers. They’re terribly boring,” she sighed, rolling her eyes.
“What are you planning on being?”
“I wanna be a starship ranger.”
Kai looked at her oddly. “What…is that?”
Suddenly she giggled, shaking her head. “It’s nothing. Actually, I want to be a translator,” she admitted.
“Really?” Kai gasped, “What language?”
“I’d say I’m almost fluent in Mandarin and I’m currently learning Japanese. I want to learn more English too since I’m not very good at it now.”
“Omo! I’m taking Japanese too! Though, you probably know more than I do so you should help me study,” Kai laughed, feeling happy that they have yet another thing in common: learning Japanese.
“Maybe sometime,” she agreed, nudging his side with her elbow. “What about you? You’re graduating this year; what do you want to do?”
“Eh…,” Kai sighed. “I don’t know. I love dancing…and juggling…I was thinking about auditioning for SM in a few months.”
“SM? Really?” She seemed very impressed.
“Yeah. Taemin suggested it actually, but if I don’t get in then I’ll probably work for a year then go to college.”
“Let me know when the audition is,” she said excitedly, shaking Kai’s arm with her hand that had clasped onto it, “I’ll come and cheer you on!”
“Really? You’d do that?” Kai felt very touched.
“Of course!”
“Thanks,” he mumbled, shyly smiling at her.
In the other room, Jonghyun and Taemin were whispering to each other.
“Think they’re making out yet?” Jonghyun asked, grinning funnily.
“Yah! Kai isn’t like that. This is only their first time meeting! Though, they might the second time they meet…”
“Kai likes cuddling, right?”
“Oh gosh, absolutely.”
“Awesome because SaeJin loves it.”
