School Clubs

It was already a month into the new school year, and both Taemin and Kai finally seemed to get into a nice rhythm of it. They went to school and alternated days to go to Taemin’s home and Kai’s home to work on homework. Usually, they would get it done but occasionally—normally Wednesdays—they would scramble to get it done in the mornings and lunch time.
This day, their homeroom teacher was the one to interrupt their daily school routine.
“Taemin, Kai, I need to speak with you before class,” Mr. Choi said, calling them to stay behind while everyone else headed to their classes.
The boys looked to one another confusedly but did as they were told.
Mr. Choi gathered two sheets of paper and handed it to the boys. “A month has gone by and I hope you both have gotten into the swing of things but there is something that has caught my attention,” he began. He was as the boys glanced over their papers, “These are lists of the various school clubs. As you know, being in a club is not required but it certainly looks good on your resume if you want to go to college. Most everyone has already joined a club but I want you two to give it some thought, alright?”
He stared the boys down, grinning when they nodded their heads obediently, mumbling out a quiet, “Yes, sir.”
“On Friday, I’ll check in with you both again,” Mr. Choi said dismissively as he grabbed a piece of paper and writing on it. He handed the paper to Taemin, “Here’s a note for your teacher. Get going so you’re not too late now.”
The boys grabbed their things quickly and hustled out of the room.
“Ugh, having this much homework already is grueling enough, but now we have to join a club?” Kai groaned, glaring at the list of clubs in his hand.
“This is stupid…but I suppose we probably should do it. What should we join?” Taemin asked.
“I don’t even know…Chess Club?”
“I really hate chess. How about Jump Rope Club,” Taemin suggested.
“No. I would fall on my face. Prayer Club?” Kai said, slightly interested.
“You’re kidding, right?”
“No, it’s an actually club.”
“I’m not joining that. I’m gay remember? They’re just going to tell me that I’ll burn in Hell.”
“Alright, no Prayer Club then. Damn, there’s so many clubs…Oh! Dance Club!? I’ll join that,” Kai decided excitedly, smiling.
“Really? Okay, I’ll join that too but…,” Taemin trailed off indecisively.
“But?” Kai asked curiously.
Taemin looked sheepish as he said, “I kind of want to join the English Club.”
“English? Alright, well which club are you going to join then?”
“Both…Do you think it’s alright if I join two?”
“I don’t know…”
“Well, I’m going to join both.”
“Alright. Well then in that case, should I join another one too?” Kai asked, skimming the list once more.
“If you want,” Taemin told him.
The two arrived to their Math class but didn’t go in. instead, they stood outside the door, looking at the list.
“Should I join the Math Club or the Juggling Club?” Kai finally asked.
“Juggling? Hm…well personally, I don’t want you to be a nerdy, Math geek so do juggling. That sounds more fun anyway but it’s ultimately your call,” Taemin said, before finally walking into the classroom and handing the teacher their note. Kai aimlessly walked as he thought hard.
He thought about it all day and finally settled on Juggling.
That Friday, they signed up for the clubs and told Mr. Choi.
