“Hello, class!” The teacher greeted in English once everyone was there. It was Monday after classes and Taemin had to attend the English club, which he found after four meetings, it was pretty fun. They didn’t really do much but play games and watch movies in English.

“Today, we will be doing something fun. We’re going to choose English names for ourselves,” the teacher, Ms. Grant, said enthusiastically, earning a cheer from her students.

Taemin had found that the club was made up of mostly upperclassmen, who had more English experience so he felt awkward when he didn’t know what the teacher said. Luckily though, the translator who worked with Ms. Grant repeated what she had said in Korean so it worked out for Taemin.

It was certainly going to be exciting. Ms. Grant passed out sheets of paper with English names. While everyone was chatting excitedly about what names they wanted to have, Taemin skimmed over the paper looking for a specific name he had in mind but frowned when he didn’t find the last name for it.

Ms. Grant took notice and walked over to him after speaking with other students about their names. “Are you having trouble finding a name?” she asked.

Taemin processed the sentence with little difficulty and answered slowly, knowing they were only allowed to speak in English. “I…can’t find last name I want.”

“What name did you want?”

“Weasley.”

Ms. Grant smiled, “Are you a Harry Potter fan?”

“Yes,” Taemin answered excitedly. “I like Ron. He is Hermione boyfriend.”

“Oh, so you like Hermione Granger. I like her too; she’s very smart. Do you want your name to be Ron Weasley?”

Taemin furrowed his brow in confusion; that sentence was too long for him. He politely asked her to say it again slowly, understanding it a second time and nodding.

“Alright, I’ll write it down,” she said before walking back to the front of the class, “Everyone, the names that you pick out will be your names for the rest of the year.”

Taemin smiled to himself; even though he was gay, he could pretend to be straight. Besides, Hermione was actually his favorite character anyway.

And sometimes he wished he wasn’t gay so he could have a normal life—a normal romance someday.

“Oh, I forgot to take attendance!” Ms. Grant gasped, “Ron, will you please take attendance?”

Ron Weasley jumped up from his seat and walked to the front of the room and began taking attendance.
