Today was the day that Kai was to have his audition for SM Entertainment. He was so nervous—so insanely nervous of course—but at that moment Kai couldn’t have wished for better friends. They were on the train on the way to the building and Kai was a complete bundle of nerves.

“W-what if I mess up?” Kai asked around frantically. “I shouldn’t have chosen to do this. I should just forget about this and become an accountant or a dance teacher or something—something less scary than this!”

Taemin wrapped his arms around Kai tightly to try and calm his friend. “Everything is going to go smoothly and you’re going to get recruited,” he said simply, but with confidence. He knew Kai’s dancing ability and it was something to be confident in. Kai was just that great.

Jonghyun actually found the whole situation amusing and laughed to himself. “They’d be crazy not to pick them,” he contorted.

“B-But what if—”

“No, no—none of that. You’ll be fine. Now, you remember what song you’re auditioning with?” Taemin asked.

“No Other by Super Junior,” Kai sniffled, trying to hold in his tears of anxiety. “It’s one of my favorites.”

Taemin smiled, patting Kai’s shoulder. “At least you can remember that.”

“Kai!” SaeJin called, running up to them when they reached the outside of the building. SaeJin had arrived a bit earlier and waited for them, excitement rushing through her veins. She threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly. “This is so exciting! How you feeling?”

“Like ,” Jonghyun chuckled. “Should’ve seen him on the way over. He almost cried.”

“Jonghyun, you’re being an again. Don’t make me it you,” SaeJin said sternly, still holding Kai close to her. She felt satisfaction when she felt her boyfriend shake in laughter.

“Yes, noona,” Jonghyun mumbled, hiding behind Taemin.

Taemin shook his head disbelievingly at his boyfriend’s idiocy. “Alright, should we head inside?”

Kai kjumped up and down a few times, getting pumped. “Yeah, let’s…”

SaeJin kissed his cheek sweetly, whispering in his ear, “You’ll do great.”

They all entered the building together, all excited and nervous at the same time.  Kai was checked in and given his number then they entered a room filled with chairs, some people practicing and some chatting with their friends. They all took a seat together and Kai started mumbling the lyrics to himself, Taemin and SaeJin both holding his hands.

“How are you feeling now?” SaeJin asked, a knowing smile on her face.

Kai was slightly pale, but seemed rather clam compared to coming on the train. “I…It’s real,” he answered, “It’s now or never, right?”

“Exactly,” Taemin agreed. “I know you can do it.”

They waited in that room for about two hours before Kai’s number was finally called and he was escorted into a room where the judges were sitting at the table in front of the room.

“You think he’s shaking like a leaf right now?” Jonghyun asked, all sign of amusement gone and replaced with worry.

“Maybe. Gosh, I hope he doesn’t forget the lyrics,” SaeJin fretted, clinging to her cousin’s arm to try calming her nerves.

“Or the dance moves,” Taemin added.

In the auditioning room, Kai was being questioned, the judges wearing blank expressions as they jotted down his answers and their thoughts. Kai however was very calm and collected, grinning as he spoke. He was a lot less nervous now that he was talking and thought that he was doing a good job.

Then it was time to sing and Kai announced the song. Then he sang.

Then he danced.

Then he finished and smiled.

He was asked to leave and was told a letter (denial or acceptance) should arrive in a about ten days.

“How’d it go? How’d you do? Were they mean?” Taemin shot question after question as soon as Kai returned, Jonghyun and SaeJin right at his heels.

“I think I did all right, but we’ll just have to wait and see,” Kai simply said, beginning to walk to the exit, his friends following him. “Now, I’m starving so let’s go eat!”

Jonghyun then laughed at Kai’s suddenly carefreeness. “I’ll treat Kai and Taemin! Noona, you’ll have to buy your own food,” he said, smirking at SaeJin, but she shot him a lethal look and Jonghyun instantly cowered, grabbing Taemin’s hand. “Or not. Noona, I would love to buy you lunch.”

“Thank you, Jjongie! You’re such a nice cousin,” she cooed sickly sweet, making Kai laugh as they continued to walk down the streets, all exhilarated from their morning expedition.
