Chapter 34

Masks

Yongguk was eating his meal when he felt a weight on his left shoulder. He saw Hyeri fell asleep. She was probably so tired that she didn't even finish her meal. He smiled to himself.

He grabbed the jacket that was laying near her and covered her so she won't catch a cold. He then took his jacket and put it carefully beneath her head, so she will be more comfortable. Luckily, she didn't wake up from his movement. He smiled to himself, watching her sleep.

Not so far from there, someone watched the two of them together. He squeezed the can in his hand and then tossed it aside. He won't let them be happy. Never.

~

After everyone gathered and finished eating we drove to our second location. This time we rode the car with the monday couple. Gary drove the car and Ji Hyo sat next to him, surprisingly awake.

"You two look good together." Ji Hyo mentioned, and my face became red as a tomato. "Are you dating?"

"No." Me and Yongguk answered together, and she laughed from our reaction.

"BABYs, please don't misunderstand. Wer'e not dating, we are just good friends. And I have a dating ban, so I can't date." I hurried to explain before getting into more misunderstandings and before getting Yongguk in trouble with his fans.

"Do companies still do this things?" She asked.

"Yes. I have a dating ban until two years after debut."

"Then what happens if you fall in love?" Gary asked.

"You are forced to break up if your'e dating, and if you don't than your'e either kicked out or have to carry the consequences, and it can be a lot."

"What do you mean?"

"For example, if a schedule is cancelled because of your dating scandal than you have to pay for the loses, and for rookies it can be a lot of money since they still have to pay their debts from training and from their debut."

"What about you, Yongguk?" Gary asked.

"I don't have a dating ban anymore, but I did have one at the beginning."

"That's harsh." Ji Hyo stated.

"You get used to it." I tried to smile.

"That's why a lot of people date secretly." Gary said.

"That's true." Ji Hyo agreed. "Sometimes it's hard being a celebrity."

"Stop pressuring her. It's nice doing what you love." Gary said smiling.

"Oh, wer'e here." Ji Hyo said and pointed outside the window. It looks like wer'e doing an obstacle course, that had two rows of different obstacles. I wonder what it is..

We gathered there and waited for the next mission card.

Your second mission is 'Obstacle Race'.

You have to do the race together.

If someone falls down or you get eliminated before finishing the course you have to start again.

You will throw the dice in order to decide wheather you'll do the heavenly course or the course from hell.

Of course, You'll still have to throw the dice from earlier, indicating if you'll be free or with some kind of disability.

The couple that finish the race in the shortest time will win this round  and will get an advantage for the next mission.

The winning couple from the maze mission gets an advantage - He can add a minute to the total time of a couple to his choice.

Good luck!

I looked at the obstacle course. It looks tough. I hope we won't be tied at least..

Yongguk threw the dice I threw in the beginning and we got 'Hand and leg tied' again.

"I'm sorry.." Yongguk said quietly, feeling guilty.

"Don't worry, we are used to it by now." I patted his back. "I just think that fate wants to keep us together.." I tried to make a joke, and he gave me a small smile.

I threw the second dice. 'Heaven' was written on three sides of the dice, and 'Hell' was written on the rest of it. Of course nothing good ever happens to us, so I got 'Hell'. . It can't be that bad, right?

The order of competing was the order we finished the maze mission, so we were second.

In the first obstacle we had to crawl on the acupuncture mattress. Above us the was a low net that we can't touch. We started crawling slowly, while Yongguk tried to match his pace to mine. If he goes faster then my arm will hurt. This obstacle felt like it took forever since it was long and not comfortable, but we made it.

When we finished it we had the tire run obstacle - there were three rows of tires arranged diagonally, and you have to run through it the fastest you can without missing any tire. Just like an army training..

"Ouch!" I cried when I stumbled. Yongguk stopped doing the mission and turned around to look at me.

"What is it? Are you ok?" Yongguk asked worriedly. When he noticed I'm on the ground he offered me his hand so I can get up. He examined me, trying to see if I'm hurt.

"Yes, I'm fine." I said while getting up. "Let's start again."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes." I said confidently and started pulling him to the starting point. We did the first two obstacles again.

The third obstacle was the horizontal ladder monkey bars. We had to tilt our body a little in order to do it without falling down since we were tied together, and we also had to stop often to adjust our body and our pace. It was terrible since Yongguk is higher than me, and I had to stretch my arms further because of it.

Up next is the inclined balance beam. You have to climb on it first, and when you get to the end it falls down and you have to cross it downwards. The trickiest part is in the end, when it changes from up to down. It's scary. Yongguk went first, trying to keep his balance, and I held onto him tightly, too scared to fall down. I think I clutched the back of his shirt too tightly, but he didn't seem to mind. I'm usually good at keeping my balance, but not when I'm depending on another person and when I can't move freely the way I want to. When we finished going up I hugged him while the balance beam changed it's angle, hoping we won't fall because that means starting all over again, from the first obstacle. Definitely hell.

Again crawling, but this time it's narrow, unlike the first obstacle who was wide. It was a tunnel like the kids have for playing but bigger, and it was full with plastic balls in different sizes. The problem was that it was wide enough only for one person, and even if me and Yongguk are skinny we can't fit there together next to each other. We ended up hugging each other really close, and crawling somehow with a lot of teamwork, and I blushed like a tomato. This day is really making us do all kinds of things.. Luckily the camera didn't shoot what happened inside the tunnel because it probably won't look good, and it was too embarrassing for both of us. If the first obstacle felt like forever, this felt like way more. We somehow got out of there, both of us completly red from embarrassment and effort.

"Yah! What the hell did you do in there that you look like that?" Yoo Jae Suk teased when he saw our faces. The other couples, who were watching, started to laugh.

"You try to do this thing attached to someone!" I exclaimed.

"Come, oppa.." I said to Yongguk and dragged him to our next obstacle. We already wasted time when I tripped in the second obstacle, we can't waste more time.

The next obstacle was a huge inflated trampoline that you have to go through. It had a lot of pillars you have to cross in order to get to the end. This time I led the way, happy I can control something. It was the easiest obstacle until now since you mainly had to walk.

The seventh obstacle was a normal balance beam. After the inclined one this was a piece of cake.

The last obstacle was driving a scooter in a slalom, without knocking over the colourful cones that marked the track, until the finish line. If one of the cones falls or if you fall down, you need to start again. Usually you have two scooters, but since we wer'e tied we only used one. Yongguk was trying to drive while I was hugging him tightly. I hoped we wouldn't have to start again since that tunnel is a nightmare.

We finally finished our mission and we sat down to watch the other couples struggle. The ones who did the heavenly course are lucky, their course is relatively easy..

While we were watching, Yongguk and I were still holding hands. We were still tied, so it was only natural that my hand will find itself in his. He traced his fingers over the back of my hand, my wrist and up my arm, beneath my elbow, drawing random patterns. It was a nice feeling. I wonder how it will feel if his soft hands will travel some more to other parts of my body.. Wait, what? What the hell am I thinking?

"Ouch!" I mumbled after I pinched myself with my free hand in order to get back to reality. I can't have this kind of thoughts right now, or at all. This is not happening.

"What is it?" Yongguk whispered in my ear in order not to gain attention from everyone else.

"Nothing." I whispered back. He looked at me for a few more seconds and then stared at the obstacle course again. It was Zico and Soyou's turn.

After everyone finished the course, me and Yongguk were ranked fifth. Quite good considering our hardships..

We had a short break before the next mission, so I went to rest at the side. Yongguk went to talk to Jinu, so I was sitting by myself on one of the benches outside. We were not tied anymore since we finished the mission. I closed my eyes for a moment when I felt someone sitting next to me.

"Oppa.. What took you so long?" I asked while my eyes were still closed, thinking it was Yongguk.

"Do you miss him that much? He was only gone for two minutes." A manly voice said. Wait, it doesn't sound like Yongguk.. I opened my eyes quickly, surprised to see Zico sitting next to me.

"Why are you so shocked?" Zico laughed when he saw my shocked expression. "I know I'm not him, but you don't have to be so rude.."

"I'm sorry.." I was flustered. That was not what I meant! "I just thought it was him, and I didn't think you would come talk to me.."

"Why? We already met before, and I always talk to pretty girls."

"Thanks." I blushed.

"But, you know, if I were you I would have stay away a little from your prince charming.." He said while stretching his arms and legs, looking forward.

"Why?" I asked confused. I figured something must have happened between the two of them from the way they acted in the last time we met, but I don't know what it is and I'm curious about it.

"Do you know why people rarely come and talk to you while you are on music shows?" He turned to look at me.

"Everyone talks to me, so I don't know what your'e talking about."

"Let me be more specific - guys." He smiled.

"Because they don't know me or they are just busy?" I tried to reason. I have no idea where he is going with this conversation..

"Wrong, and wrong. I would say it's more like fear.."

"Fear? From what?" I laughed.

"Well, prince charming made it pretty clear that your'e his, so people in the industry, especially rookies, tends to stay away so they won't get in trouble."

"Are you filming a gangsters movie? What is wrong with you? Do you really think he will go around threatening people, and for something so irrelevant?" I couldn't hold my laughter anymore. This is too much. "And just for the record - I'm not his and he is not mine."

"So innocent, pretty little girl." Zico ruffled my hair. "You really don't know him."

"Fine, let's just say your'e right.. Why are you here then? Shouldn't you be hiding as well?"

"I'm not scared of him."

"Maybe you should be." Yongguk's voice was heard before I managed to react.

"Nice to see you again, hyung." Zico smiled. "But I believe wev'e already been in this situation before, don't you think? I know what your'e capable of, and your'e way below my level." He stood up, stretching again.

"Go away before I get annoyed." Yongguk glared at him.

"Enjoy your short honeymoon, lovebirds." He patted Yongguk's back. "And pretty girl, I'll definitely see you again." He looked at me while saying this and smiled.

"I hope I won't." I muttered.

"Don't worry, I have plenty of ways to spend time with you if I want to.." Zico said and then walked away.

"What the hell?" I exclaimed when I was left alone with Yongguk.

"Don't believe everything he says and just ignore him.." Yongguk said, suprisingly calm.

"What happened between the two of you?"

"It happened a long time ago and it doesn't matter. It's between me and him."

"So secretive." I scoffed.

"Yah! Why are you butting in in things that are not related to you?" He raised his voice a little, annoyed.

"This is related to me since I'm related to you!" I argued.

"Weren't you the one that said wer'e not related?" He exclaimed.

"Well, yes, but that was then, and this is now." I said quietly. He had a point, and I just made myself look stupid right now. Your'e an idiot, Hyeri.

"Look, I'm sorry I raised my voice." He said while rubbing the back of his neck.

"It's ok, I'm sorry I'm being annoying and I'm sorry for interfering in your business, I was just annoyed because of him." I said while looking down and kicking something invisible.

"Don't worry too much about it, ok? I'll take care of it. And he won't do anything to you since his problem is with me."

"Fine." I still wasn't looking at him.

"So give me a hug so I'll know your'e really fine? Or at least smile?" He stretched his arms, waiting for me to go to his embrace.

"Do you want a real smile or a fake one?" I finally lifted my gaze to look at him.

"Only the real ones. You don't have to fake things in front of me.."

"Then I'll guess it's a hug." I appraoched him to hug him. We hugged for a while, and it did calm me down. I felt better when we pulled apart.

"Let's go, we have more missions to do." Yongguk smiled.

"Right." A small smile appeared on my face as well. "Don't you dare throw 'Hand and leg tied' again, because I'll kill you. I'm not doing this again.." I tried to sound threatening. I wasn't really serious, but I wanted to see his reaction.

"Too bad it's your turn to throw that dice." He stuck out his tongue.

"Yah, Bang Yongguk!" I started chasing after him, and he ran away. For a grandpa that always does things in his own pace he runs quite fast..

~

"Kids these days.." Kwang Soo sighed while watching Hyeri and Yongguk chasing one another.

"They will get tired and they won't be able to do the missions.." Kim Jong Kook stated.

"Better for us." Kwang Soo smiled.

~

"I thought you work out a lot, where did all that go if you can't even chase me properly? I wasn't even running that fast." Yongguk mocked me while I stopped to catch my breath. He stopped running as well, but he was standing in a safe distance from me, so he can run if I start chasing him again.

"You have two seconds to come here and apoplogize." I glared at him.

"Or what?" He teased me.

"Don't test me!" I raised my voice a little.

"You know, your'e cute when your'e mad." Yongguk said. I was flattered, but I tried not to show it. It won't work on me.

"You know, your'e annoying." I stated.

"You are the only one that thinks that." He stuck his tongue out again and started running, knowing I will run after him again. He is so childish sometimes, but we all are.

Author's Note:

I'm sorry I'm late, I tried to update sooner but I had a little writing block and then I had exams so I didn't have much time..

I really wanted to finish the 'Running Man' thing today but it became too long, so there will be one more chapter about it, and that's it. The next chapter will probrbly be a little shorter as well..

I'm sorry if the obstacle course is a bit lame.. I hope I managed to describe the obstacles properly.

I still have exams, so I don't know when the next update will be. I will try to update until the next weekend, but I can't promise for sure.

And lastly, thank you so much for commenting and subscribing, it means a lot to me! <3

Chapter 156: Wow, I was blaming both of them at 1st, as things could’ve been handled so much better on both sides. I loved how Himchan & Sey reasoned with both of them, but Hyeri crossed a line once Yongguk apologized. I didn’t feel she necessarily deserved it, but I knew they both needed it.... sure the way he apologized, did seem like a back handed apology, as her kissing technique could’ve been discussed privately. But Hyeri towards Himchan, she needs to make this better, and of course, he hit below the belt, but she had consistently hit below the belt prior & then to hit him!!! I’m not sure how this is going to turn out, thank you for updating!!

Chapter 156: I still one hundred percent believe that this entire situation is one in which Hyeri is very much at fault. I don’t think Yongguk is in a position where Hyeri requires an apology and I don’t think Hyeri even DESERVES an apology. She completely blew a small and minor incident out of proportion.

I do believe that Himchan went slightly too far with the comment he made however Hyeri shouldn’t have been as horrible to him as she was.

Chapter 155: Welcome back!!!!!!!!!!! I was BEYOND happy to see the update, wow so much happened, where to begin? I see Hyeri & Himchan are still at each other’s throats, I do wish they could get along, and that Hyeri would see the validity in what Himchan said, but no matter what, I think time stopped when Yongguk said Sumi was a better kisser. I felt bad, that super slam, even if honest, that was the time to lie. Especially knowing Hyeri... I was shocked she would kiss him after that was said, and kept thinking why does kissing Yongguk keep coming up, even after he said she wasn’t as good of a kisser. .... sighs, once again, he’s storming out and even with his stupid honestly, I can’t say I blame him. Thank you so much for coming back & for updating,

Chapter 155: WOOP WOOP!! MY FAVE FANFIC IS BACK!!! And OMG this is spicy as hell. I just wish Hyeri would stop being a drama queen and finally realise that she needs to get some help and that Yongguk loves her.

Chapter 153: Thank you for updating despite your busy schedule. I truly hope that Hyeri is ok! She let a lot of things off her chest the night before, and while I do wish she would've thought of the impact her leaving like that would have, I hope they catch her in time before she does something that would change all of their lives. Regarding the comment I just read, there's a difference between constructive criticism & just plain being rude. While it's true, being factual or doing some research on weightier subjects is a good rule of thumb, most of us are adults that don't use fanfics as our barometer of social issues. Assuming what someone's language is, was completely unnecessary to state. You don't have to read the story, if you're a writer, you should understand what it takes to create, upload & continue a story remembering details from previous chapters...etc. If you're not a writer, perhaps you should put yourself in the author's shoes before you begin.
