Chapter 17
MasksYongguk went back to his dorm and slammed the door to his room. He shoved all the things from his desk to the floor. When it didn't satisfy him he slammed his fist onto the wall. It hurt, but he didn't care. He saw blood, but he didn't care either. Finally he fell on his bed.
"What the hell?" Himchan stormed into the room. He heard the noises from outside, and he didn't like it at all.
"Get out." Yongguk ordered.
"No."
"Get out!" Yongguk raised his voice.
"Yongguk.." Himchan said softly.
"Out. Now. Or you'll be hit as well." Yongguk said once again, still not looking at Himchan.
"Your'e bleeding." Himchan said, noticing the blood on Yongguk's hand.
"I don't care."
"What happened?" Himchan tried again, but he didn't get any response from the other male. He tried a couple more times, but eventually gave up and walked out of the room.
Yongguk stayed laying on his bed. The thoughts kept coming to him, and his heart felt heavy. He didn't know what has gotten into him, but he needed to figure it out.
The first time he heard about Hyeri was when Himchan told the boys that the company have a new trainee.
The second time he heard about her was when she came to their showcase and the other boys met her. They kept talking nonstop about her the day after, and that already gave her some bonus points.
He only saw her when she had the evaluations, and he thought she looked cute and that she sings and dance well. When Sumi pushed her he felt sorry for her.
Afterwards they had just gotten closer somehow. He did think about her only as a dongsaeng at first.
He didn't know why, but he kept checking the practice rooms in the third floor in order to see if she is there and if she happens to go back to their dorm. Even when he didn't mean to do it, his legs just carried him over there by themselves.
Their conversations was nice and fun. Sometimes they were serious, other times they were playful. He loved all of them.
He started to care more for her, still as a friend.
When they were in the same room, his eyes automatically wandered to her. He was curious to see what she was doing and what she was saying.
Himchan warned him not to get too close to her and not to fall inlove, but he just saw her as a friend. In that case that was fine, right?
When Himchan told him she was missing that night his heart skipped a bit. When he saw that note the blood drained from his face.
That note only means one thing - someone is after her, and he is not going to give up until he succeed.
That note also means that she is getting into something she is not supposed to be involved in, and he needs to help her.
He kept wondering if it was his fault or not, but until now he had no idea. That didn't change his decision to protect her, but the fact that this wasn't the usual sender bothered him a lot. It changed the rules of the game, and he didn't know what to expect. What if he fails?
He thought that pushing her away was the best way to protect her. He really tried, but something always made him come back to her. It was like she put some kind of spell on him. The truth is that he actually kind of liked it. Spending time with her was fun, and it made him happy and more relaxed. On the other hand, seeing her falling apart was breaking his heart. He felt like he was starting to fall apart as well, and he wanted to fix that. He wanted to fix her.
He was ready to endure Himchan's never ending nagging and Sey's yelling. It's never nice to get yelled at, but when he saw Hyeri's smile afterwards he felt like it was worth it. He will do a lot to make her smile.
But today was different. It started the same as any other day, but that changed when they were at the park.
His body moved on his own, and he hugged her. The warning signs in his head were all there, but he ignored them. At that moment he started to feel alive again. His heart began to beat faster. The same heart he thought that had died a long time ago.
Her scent was sweet, and made his mind go blank. Her touch was soft, and he wanted to stay like that forever. Just the two of them, without anyone else. It felt so good and it felt so right.
He wanted to tell her that he is sorry and that he won't push her away again, but his lips moved on their own, and suddenly he said the thing that ruined everything.
He hated admitting it, but that was the right thing to do. The problem was that his heart didn't cooperate with his brain, and her reaction made him feel like the biggest on earth. He deserved every harsh word she said to him, but it still felt like she was stabbing him every single time she said something. He broke her heart, while she revived his.
"That was the right thing to do." He said loudly, trying to convince himself. It didn't help. It still hurt.
"Here." Himchan went back into the room with a first aid kit.
"Thanks." Yongguk said quietly.
"Did you finish hitting and throwing things?" Himchan asked, examining Yongguk.
"Yeah."
"Do you want to talk?" Himchan moved a chair closer to Yongguk's bed and sat on it. Yongguk sat on his bed.
"I don't know what I'm doing anymore.." Yongguk sighed.
"About what?"
"About her." Yongguk didn't have to say her name, since Himchan immediately knew who he was talking about. Besides Sumi, she was the only girl that could get some kind of reaction out of him, and he will never react like that to Sumi. That leaves only one person - Hyeri.
"What happened?"
"It's over. She don't want to see me again." Yongguk buried his face in his hands. The blood on his hand had already dried out.
"That's good. This way she won't be in danger if he is still after you for some reason." Himchan reasoned.
"I want to protect her."
"Then what is the problem?"
"I want to protect her when she is next to me."
"Yongguk.." Himchan said softly. "We already talked about it."
"No, you talked about it." Yongguk corrected him.
"And you agreed. What has changed?"
"Me."
"Great." Himchan sighed.
"She made my heart beat faster." Yongguk looked at Himchan, who could only pity him. He knew very well what Yongguk meant since he was there when his heart stopped feeling anything in the first place, and he knew how important it is for him, but right now there are more important things than his best friend feeling alive again.
"You know we can't do this. What if he hurt her because of you? Could you handle it?"
"No." Yongguk said quietly, staring on the floor. He had to admit Himchan was right, even if he didn't like it.
"Let go before your feelings will get more serious, because if you don't you won't be able to control them anymore and you'll start thinking with your heart instead of your brain."
"What about her? I hurt her."
"She will get over it. It's better doing this now since you didn't date and we don't know how she is feeling about you."
"I'm an ." Yongguk mumbled.
"No, your'e not. You are just trying to do the right thing."
"The right thing for who?"
"For everyone."
~
I woke up when it was dark outside. I checked the time on my cellphone - 22:00. I managed to sleep for a couple of hours.
I got out of bed and went to the kitchen to get myself a glass of water. When I entered the living room the girls became quiet. They were probably talking about me, from the way they shushed when they noticed me.
"Is everything ok?" Sey asked worriedly.
"Yes, just perfect." I tried to smile.
"You don't look like it's perfect." she stated.
"Well, things are not always the way they look."
There was silence, and I took this opportunity to get into the kitchen. Sey followed me there.
"Do you want to talk?" she asked while examining me. I took a water bottle out of the fridge.
"No."
"Is it because of him?"
"Part of it." I twisted the cap and took a sip from the cold liquid.
"Hyeri.." She said softly. I could tell from the tone of her voice what she wanted to say next.
"Don't go there. I already told you I don't want to talk."
"It will help you to talk about it."
"It will help me if you stop interogating me when I don't want to talk!" I raised my voice. She was caught by surprise, and I got out of the kitchen, aiming to go back to the bedroom. On my way there I heard the girls talk.
"Do you think she got kicked out or something?" Yujin asked the other girls.
"If she was kicked out she wouldn't be here right now." Eun Hee reasoned.
"Then what do you think it is? I never saw her like that before.."
"Maybe someone finally put the princess in her place.. She could use living like the normal people and not the royals." Sumi said.
"Don't be mean." Eun Hee said.
"I'm not. And honestly I couldn't care less what happened to her. I just hope it won't affect the rest of us."
"I didn't get kicked out and it has nothing to do with you, so you won't be affected." I said and went into the bedroom.
I changed clothes to training clothes while Sey stood next to the door with her hands folded over her chest.
"Are you going to practice?" she asked.
"Yes." I need to clear my mind, and practice is the best way to do it.
"It's late."
"I don't care."
I took my bag and went out of the door, back to the company.
Author's Note:
Well, I wanted to try and write Yongguk's point of view, and it came out better than I expected. It's also a bit different from my usual style of writing, so I hope you'll like it :)
Originally it was supposed to be a chapter that is telling only his side of the story, but when I finished writing his part it was too short for an actual chapter, so I added a short part of Hyeri. I hope it helped you understand his side a little better.
I know it's still a little shorter than usual, but that's the best I can do right now. I'll make it up to you in the next chapters.
And I might go back to update twice a week because I got inspired with writing the next chapters, so if it goes well you'll get more updates.
Thanks for reading, subscribing, commenting and upvoting, it means a lot to me!
