Chapter 10

Masks

Yongguk flipped the note in his hands over and over. He read it a hundred times by now, but it still didn't made any sense.

Maybe the situation is more serious than he thought.. How could he let it get out of control like this?

He sighed and threw the note in his drawer, along with the other notes.

"Where the hell were you yesterday?" Sey questioned when we were alone in the dorm.

"I wanted to get some fresh air.." I mumbled, hoping she won't investigate me further.

"Then why didn't you answer your phone?"

"I didn't hear it."

"Do you know how worried I was? I thought something happened to you.."

"I'm sorry.. It won't happan again."

~

"Good job yesterday. The money should be in your bank account in an hour." The tall girl smiled brightly when she read the text massage.

Not so far from there, someone else was also smiling in relief. In a while the problem will be solved and things will be different. Everything will be back to normal.

"Morning, nuisance." Himchan greeted Sey while sitting next to her in the cafeteria.

"Morning, idiot."

"Ouch. Your'e really nice today.." He commented.

"Sorry, I'm just tired."

"Did your problem get solved?" He stared at her, examing her face. She became prettier since the first time he saw her, when she got into the company.

"Yes.." Sey sighed.

"Good." Himchan smiled. "Did you eat yet?"

"No.. But I'm on a diet since I gained weight, so I can't eat."

"Your'e not fat." He made an annoyed face. This is not right.

"I know I'm not, but you know the rules.." She said sadly.

"Don't starve yourself too much." He said worridely.

"Don't worry." Sey smiled. "I just need to work out a lot and it will be fine."

"You look better when your'e not as skinny as a stick."

"Are you flirting with me, Kim Himchan?" She stared at him.

"Nuisance, when will you learn to recieve compliments without complaining?" Himchan poked her forehead.

"When you will stop flirting with everything that has a pulse."

"I'm not flirting with everyone, just the pretty girls." He tried to look offended.

"But to you everyone is pretty." Sey exclaimed.

"Are you jealous?" Himchan smiled.

"Dream on."

It was late afternoon, and the comapny was relatively empty.

I was near the CEO office when I heard weird voices coming from it. I approached the door slowly, debating with myself what to do. I can't just go in there, but what if something happened?

I took a deep breath and opened the door a little, trying not to make any noise. That was clearly a mistake. Sumi was there with the CEO, and they were in the middle of having fun, or at least the CEO was having his fun. My eyes widened in amazement and I had to cover my mouth so I won't shout. I definitely wasn't expecting this.. This is so wrong.. But some things actually make more sense now.

I closed the door quietly and turned to walk away when I noticed that Yongguk is coming in the direction of the CEO office. He can't come here. He definitely can't.

"Oppa!" I walked towards him, blocking his way to the CEO's office.

"Since when do you call me oppa?" He questioned.

"You told me to call you that.." I faked innocence.

"Right.." He scratched the back of his head. "But why are you talking to me? Aren't you in a probation or something?" He still looked confused.

"I.. I want you to teach me how to rap." I said the first thing I could think of in order to get him away from the hallway.

"Since when?" He looked even more confused.

"Since.. today. I want to improve myself." I started to move uncomfortably in my place. Why is he so difficult today?

"Let's do it in another time, I'm busy." He said and tried to pass me in order to go to the CEO's office. I grabbed his hand and forced him to face me.

"Let's do it right now, please?" I tried to use my cutest face. "You have to.. I'm bad at it and I want to try it in the evaluations."

"I'm.."

"Great, let's go!" I didn't let him finish what he wanted to say and I started pulling him to the other direction. He can't go into that office right now.

"Kim Hyeri! What the hell do you think your'e doing?" Jinu's voice echoed through the hallway. I froze immediately in my place. . This is the worst timing ever and this is the last thing that I needed right now. How am I supposed to explain to him why I'm holding Yongguk's hand?

"Y.. yes?" I tried to sound normal.

"Are you deaf or just pretending to be one? I asked what are you doing." He crossed his arms over his chest and he looked mad. That's not good.

"I'm not doing anything." I tried to smile.

"Are you sure about that?"

"Of course." I tried to keep my calm.

"Then what are you doing here?"

"I'm on my way to the third floor.."

"With Yongguk?" He questioned.

"It's because I wanted to go with her." Yongguk said, making me and Jinu look at him in surprise. Why is he helping me?

"You wanted to go with her upstairs?" Jinu repeated after him.

"Yes."

"Why?"

"I just wanted to see her practice."

"While Holding hands?" Jinu questioned and stared at our hands that somehow got linked together in the process. Earlier I just grabbed his wrist, our fingers were far from being together. Both of us looked at our hands and blushed. We took them out immediately, blushing even more.

"That.. that was a mistake." I said.

"You are making a lot of mistakes for a trainee, Hyeri." Jinu said dryly.

"I'm sorry." I said quietly and stared at the ground.

"Why aren't you kicking her out?" Sumi appeared behind us. I guess she finished her buisness with CEO.. If only she knew I'm in this mess right now because I tried to help her..

"Why would he kick her out when it's my fault?" Yongguk glared at her. Her eyes widened in surprise. She didn't expect that reaction from him. Why is he defending Hyeri so much?

"You two sure spend a lot of time together.. especially when I told Hyeri not to do it." Jinu commented.

"I'm sorry, but it's really my fault. I knew she wasn't supposed to see me but I came here anyway."

"You know you can get punished for it, right?" Jinu asked and Yongguk nodded. I don't know why he took the blame on him, but I can't let him get punished for something I did. It's not right, and I did messed up and broke the rules.

"It's my fault, not his" I said.

"What?" Jinu and Yongguk stared at me.

"I asked him to come with me because I needed help with practice, so please don't punish him. I'm the one at fault here."

"Hyeri, what are you doing?" Yongguk asked.

"Telling the truth."

"I told you your'e not allowed to hang out with him, and you still did it?" Jinu asked, glaring at me. Well, he was clearly annoyed, and I can't blame him. I would be pissed off as well if I were him.

"Yes."

"Please punish me instead." Yongguk asked. What is he doing? This annoying guy..

"Don't!" Me and Sumi asked simultaneously, and I glared at her. Why is she interfering with something that has nothing to do with her?

"Hyeri should get kicked out since she is at fault, not Yongguk." Sumi hurried to explain when Jinu and Yongguk looked at her confused.

"Sumi, stay out of it." Jinu ordered.

"But.." She tried to protest.

"But nothing. This has nothing to do with you." He said dryly and she kept quiet, realizing Jinu is right. She would give a lot in order to get Hyeri out of the way.

"As for the two of you, since both of you insisting of being respnsible for it and being punished, come with me to the CEO office."

Jinu started making his way to the CEO office, me and Yongguk following him quietly from behind. Both of us looked at the ground, not looking at each other.

Me and Yongguk stood quietly in the CEO office while Jinu explained to the CEO what happened. I tried not to think about what I saw earlier. I can't possibly face the CEO or Sumi now like nothing happened and like I didn't see anything.. It's going to take a while to erase these pictures from my head.

"Hyeri, are you listening to me?" Jinu asked and cut me off from my thoughts.

"Yes.." I said and stared at him. I had no idea what he said, but it will only make things worse if I tell him I didn't listen.

"What do you think we should do with you?" He asked while everyone in the room looked at me.

"Maybe a fine?" I suggested hesitantly. That sounds fair enough, right? I can't get kicked out even if I deserve it.

"That's an intresting idea." The CEO said, and he looked like he is considering it. "Is that what you would do if you were me?"

"That depends." I answered after a few minutes of thinking.

"Please elaborate."

"Well, from buisness point of view, you should consider the pros and cons of letting me stay here and kicking me out. If I'm good enough and you can't replace me then you should let me stay here and punish me in another way like fines, for example. If you think you can find another girl like me or better than me and I'm more disturbing then useful to you, then you should definitely kick me out."

"So what do you think your situation is between the two?"

"I think I'm average and that you can find other girls that are better than me."

"Is there a trainee here that you think is better than you?"

"It depends on what your'e looking for. The other girls have their strenghs and weaknesses, just like me."

"I like your sincerity." The CEO said after a moment of silence, and I was relieved. Usually my sincerity gets me into trouble, but maybe this time it won't be that bad.

"Yongguk, what about you?" The CEO turned to him.

"What?" Yongguk asked.

"What do you think we should do with you?"

"Whatever you think is right."

"You know, the two of you are kind of similar." The CEO said smiling, making both of us look at him confused. "Both of you are persistent and always fight for what you think is right, even if it means talking back to your superiors, and both of you are sincere and level-headed and down to earth." Without noticing, a smile spread on my face as well.

"Since both of you insist of taking the blame and I can't tell which one of you is the real culprit, both of you are fined. Hyeri, don't do this stuff again because there is a limit to the amount of times I can save you, even if hypothetically you were our best trainee. And your'e still on probation, so the rules still apply to you." The CEO continued.

"Really?" I questioned.

"Really. Now get the hell out of here before I change my mind." The CEO smiled.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I will do better next time, I promise." I bowed and he just smiled.

"Thank you." Yongguk said and we went out, leaving the CEO with Jinu.

"What are you doing?" Jinu asked after Hyeri and Yongguk left the room.

"What do you think about the both of them?" The CEO asked.

"Well, they got closer lately and they have chemistry. If they keep hanging out together like this they can end up dating each other."

"And what about Hyeri?"

"She is causing a lot of trouble and always breaking the rules, but she is all-rounded, although she hasn't realized yet how good she is. I think she will become big with the right directing and management."

"So you do think the same as me. I actually have plans for the both of them.. I think all of us can benefit from this if we use them correctly."

"So do you want me to let them hang out together?" Jinu asked confused.

"No. She is still in probation, and she is still a trainee and rules are still rules. Just let them do stuff in their own way, but keep an eye on her.. She is full of surprises."

"Ok, sir."

~

"Why did you do that?" I asked Yongguk while we went out of the company. I didn't have anymore practice and he was free as well, so we just ended up going out.

"Do what?" He looked at me confused.

"Why did you say it was your idea to talk to me and took the blame for yourself?"

"Because I don't want you to get kicked out." He kicked a stone that was in fornt of him, concentrating on her movement.

"Why do you care?" I asked quietly, more to myself than to him, but he still heard my question.

"I just do." He still stared at the ground and I'm pretty sure I blushed.

"Thank you."

"Your'e welcome." He looked at me and smiled.

"I'm going to pay your fine."

"No."

"But it's my fault." I argued.

"You don't have money."

"Well, I can't pay for my fine right now as well, so it will just be added to my debt."

"No." He insisted.

"Then let me make you dinner or something.. I want to pay for it somehow."

"You didn't force me to do it, I did it because I wanted to, so you don't have to pay me back, especially when you don't have any income."

"But I want to."

"No, and that's final." I sighed. Why is he so persistent? Fine. I can be persistent as well. If he doesn't want me to pay him, I will do it in another way.. There's got to be a way to help him without him noticing.

"Hyeri.." Yongguk said quietly when we sat in the park near my dorm. I was busy thinking that I didn't notice we got there.

"What?" I asked.

Yongguk hesitated a little before talking. "Did anything happened last night?"

"No." I answered dryly. I don't want to rememeber last night.

"Are you sure?" He looked worried and confused.

"Of course I'm sure. Why would I lie?" I asked annoyed. I really don't like the way this conversation is going.

"I'm sorry for bringing it up." He trailed off.

"I'm sorry I got mad, I'm just really fine and nothing happened yesterday." I said when I saw that he looked a bit hurt from my reaction. Why is our relationship always like a rollercoaster? It feels like wer'e going one step forward and two steps backwards. It's tiring.

"It's fine." Yongguk smiled his signature gummy smile, and it made my heart beat a little faster.

"Oppa.."

"What?" He looked at me.

"The last one to get to the swings buy dinner!" I said and started running to the swings, leaving him behind. He laughed and started running after me, not wanting to lose.

Chapter 156: Wow, I was blaming both of them at 1st, as things could’ve been handled so much better on both sides. I loved how Himchan & Sey reasoned with both of them, but Hyeri crossed a line once Yongguk apologized. I didn’t feel she necessarily deserved it, but I knew they both needed it.... sure the way he apologized, did seem like a back handed apology, as her kissing technique could’ve been discussed privately. But Hyeri towards Himchan, she needs to make this better, and of course, he hit below the belt, but she had consistently hit below the belt prior & then to hit him!!! I’m not sure how this is going to turn out, thank you for updating!!

Chapter 156: I still one hundred percent believe that this entire situation is one in which Hyeri is very much at fault. I don’t think Yongguk is in a position where Hyeri requires an apology and I don’t think Hyeri even DESERVES an apology. She completely blew a small and minor incident out of proportion.

I do believe that Himchan went slightly too far with the comment he made however Hyeri shouldn’t have been as horrible to him as she was.

Chapter 155: Welcome back!!!!!!!!!!! I was BEYOND happy to see the update, wow so much happened, where to begin? I see Hyeri & Himchan are still at each other’s throats, I do wish they could get along, and that Hyeri would see the validity in what Himchan said, but no matter what, I think time stopped when Yongguk said Sumi was a better kisser. I felt bad, that super slam, even if honest, that was the time to lie. Especially knowing Hyeri... I was shocked she would kiss him after that was said, and kept thinking why does kissing Yongguk keep coming up, even after he said she wasn’t as good of a kisser. .... sighs, once again, he’s storming out and even with his stupid honestly, I can’t say I blame him. Thank you so much for coming back & for updating,

Chapter 155: WOOP WOOP!! MY FAVE FANFIC IS BACK!!! And OMG this is spicy as hell. I just wish Hyeri would stop being a drama queen and finally realise that she needs to get some help and that Yongguk loves her.

Chapter 153: Chapter 152: I miss this :,) it was legit the only reason I kept on checking this website

Chapter 153: Thank you for updating despite your busy schedule. I truly hope that Hyeri is ok! She let a lot of things off her chest the night before, and while I do wish she would've thought of the impact her leaving like that would have, I hope they catch her in time before she does something that would change all of their lives. Regarding the comment I just read, there's a difference between constructive criticism & just plain being rude. While it's true, being factual or doing some research on weightier subjects is a good rule of thumb, most of us are adults that don't use fanfics as our barometer of social issues. Assuming what someone's language is, was completely unnecessary to state. You don't have to read the story, if you're a writer, you should understand what it takes to create, upload & continue a story remembering details from previous chapters...etc. If you're not a writer, perhaps you should put yourself in the author's shoes before you begin.
