SIXTY FOUR
Until I Met You
I felt lighter after confessing my feelings to Rin. It felt surreal. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would fall for her so hard. I reflected on the time when I first met her. How she clung to my arm with desperation. I never understood why I didn’t just shrug her off then.
What was it about Rin that made me feel calm and at peace? She gave me a reason to look forward to life. Maybe because we were similar…
When the event was over, I walked into the main hall, to look for Rin. She had told me she would be alright if I left to tend with the event rap up but I didn’t see her after. I had sent some of my men to keep an eye out for her just in case.
Before I could call them, Ha Na approached me. She was still here.
“My dear sister” I put my phone back in my pocket and averted all my attention to her.
“I see Rin has made quite the impression on you” she said. I smirked. She was sharp with her observations, much like me.
“What makes you say that?”
“Anyone could see how smitten you are with her. Did you forget you are married?” her tone was mocking.
“I don’t know where you are trying to go with this but…Nana and I have divorced.”
She scoffed. “You do everything by the book don’t you?”
“Why don’t you speak clearly and ask me what you really want to know?”
“Just answer me this. Did you take Rin from Joon to make her fall for you? To hurt him more?”
I couldn’t believe this. I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Do you believe that my only goal in life is to torment Lee Joon?”
“Then why?”
“I am attracted to her.”
She was surprised.
“Does that surprise you?”
“Ha Na-yah” Minue came over to us.
“Why are you so bothered about it? I told you I was going to leave him alone. I am keeping my promise”
She nodded. "Very well"
“Is everything okay here?” Minue noticed Ha Na’s posture and instantly worried.
“Yes oppa. I’m tired…let’s go” she smiled at him. Minue glanced at me. I simply nodded.
It was clear to me Ha Na still cared about that lowlife. What was it going to take for her to not care about him?
“Mr. Roy!” a girlish soft voice called out for me. I instantly smiled, her voice washing away any worries.
“Rin…I’ve been looking for you”
She bowed. “Sorry sir, I didn’t mean to cause you any worries”
“Are you ready to go?”
“Actually sir…I was going to ask you for permission.” she shyly said. “Ren-san invited me to dinner…I was wondering if I could go with him.”
Ren? Kim Yoon Jae’s son? He was practically her brother right?
“Rin you know you don’t have to ask for permission. Of course it is okay with me.” I internally hated myself as I said it. Ofcourse, I wanted Rin to come home with me…I wanted her to myself. The fact that she was going out with another man– regardless of it being family or not, made me feel uneasy. I had never considered myself to be a jealous man but this was a new feeling for me.
“Thank you Mr. Roy!”
I nodded and forced at smiled.
She hurried to where Yoon Jae and Ren where waiting- by the door. I couldn’t help but feel like she was not safe.
“Xiumin. Follow Rin and make sure she is safe. Report any disturbance to me.”
“Yes sir.”
I glanced at my watch. 12:30am.
It was late and still no sign of Rin. I was getting impatient but Xiumin hadn’t reported anything to me. Everything must be going well right?
I couldn’t keep calm.
I didn’t want to call her or seem desperate. What else was I to do?
Ren wasn't really her brother. She was adopted into the Kim family.
"Just what are you thinking Roy?" I whispered to myself. I couldn't help but think about the encounter with him earlier. Something about it made it all feel uneasy....
Just when I was about to head out, I head a door open and close. Was it Rin? Was she home?
There was a knock on my door. I quickly jolted and went to open it. It was Rin.
“Sir…you are still in your suit”
I nodded.
I didn’t know what to say, and she was quiet as well. It was becoming awkward.
“Well…you should head to bed. It has been a long day, you must be tired.” I said, hating myself. I wanted to spend time with her…I just didn’t know how to say it without sounding desperate.
She nodded. “Goodnight sir” she turned around and started waking away.
“Rin” I called out for her. She stopped. I closed the distance between us, took her hand and pulled her towards me. Her body spun and was now facing me.
“Please…call me Roy. Not sir…not Mr. Roy….just Roy.” I whispered. She blushed. She nodded.
“Roy” she whispered.
It sounded nice. Not many people called me by my first name. Everyone always had a formal tone when speaking to me. It was a breath of fresh air when someone spoke to me the way Rin did. I didn’t feel like a character playing a part. I felt like myself…just myself.
“I know it’s late but.” I intertwined my fingers with hers. “I do not wish to be apart from you.”
She blushed. I loved that the most minimal thing that I said made her blush. She was so adorable.
“At least…have tea with me” he said. She nodded.
I rolled my sleeves up and made her tea. I chose something light, no caffeine.
“I learned a lot of things at today’s event. I can’t wait to teach Leo” Rin said as she sat on the bar stool while I made the tea.
“Oh yeah? Well…I am glad to hear it” I smiled. I served her a cup of tea. "The event served a purpose then, in more ways than one"
“Mmm” she smelled it first. My guess is that she thought it smelled good. Everything she did blew me away.
“Tell me, how did it go with Kim Ren” I sat across from her. I couldn’t shake the feeling of jealousy. I had to know what had gone on.
“He took me out for pizza.” she said. I smiled. Pizza?
“Pizza? Well he definitely likes to keep it fancy doesn’t he?”
