Give It A Year

Downing Today, Drowning Tomorrow

Lee Kwang Soo thought he was hearing things He had placed his chopsticks to the table, he is clearing his throat. 'What do you mean, noona?' He asked her.

'Marry me.' She says.

'Marry you?'

She nods and continuously ate. 'Yeah, marry me. Not now though, eventually. Like when you're serious.' She says, then standing to get a sip of cold water. 'I mean, it's like, we both are in a certain age that it's kind of good to get married, and we've moved in together, that means that I'll propose even crazier things in the future. So I'm trying to get you prepared, in some way of course.'

'Noona, of course I'm good to go, but I'm just a little bit shocked right now.' He says. She hands him his glass and asked him to drink. 'Noona I think you're getting too - I don't know. I mean, we've only moved today, and I haven't even dropped honorifics with you. I still call you noona.'

'I told you before, you can stop calling me noona. Let me call you oppa, then.' She says, smiling at him. He was turning red, his ears were beet red.

There was a comfortable silence between them. It's like, it's gotten to the point that the both of them were thinking. Kwang Soo's thoughts were purely about marriage. To him, he was ready; good to go. He thought it was sudden, of course, but it is still slightly plausible. If noona is thinking about marriage, then it means she loves him enough to settles down, no? But what if she backs down on the last minute? What if she decided, that she deserves better than him, he thought. What if she decides, he was not enough?

'Noona.' He calls her. She had a hairtie in while she collects her hair to tie. Somehow he liked that sight. Looking at the graceful nape of her neck, pale and white, she looked beautiful. I can get used to this everyday, he says to himself.

'Mhm?' She says, raising her head and her hair turns into a messy bun. 'What is it?'

'A year.' He says.

'A year?'

'Yeah, a year. A year for us to break into this house, like shoes. A year for us to date, for us to get to know each other. On the last month, next year in autumn, we'll tell our parents, and get our marriage license.' He says while she picks up the sweet and sour chicken and pops it into .

'Joa.' She says.'Let's do it like that.' She says, simply. Her casuality makes him think for a second, she is bat serious; isn't she?

After dinner, the tired Kwang Soo laid in bed with a full stomach. She ate quite a lot actually, much more than he did. She packed the uneaten food into lunchboxes to eat soon, probably in the morning. She placed the empty delivery bowls outside so they can pick it up. He was sleeping on the sofa, probably he became tired of all the moving. She would want to ask him to sleep in the room, but he looked too precious for her to wake up. She stares at him, while he slept. Does everyone get younger when they sleep? A slight crease in between his eyebrows made him look like he's thinking even though he's asleep.

Why was she so into the idea of them being married?

It was back at his old place, she was sleeping. The night was still young, but since the filming spanned for two days, she was swamped. Tired, too tired. But as she slept, she felt uneasy all of the sudden. She woke up, her hair in a mess, she looks to her side where he usually is; he was not there. She doesn't know why but she starts to panic. She calls his name a few couple of times in the bed, then raises from the mattress. It was not a big house, sh e scoured everywhere twice, thrice. 'Kwang Soo, Lee Kwang Soo.' She says, taking her phone; forgetting that the internet was on her favour. No messages, well at least not from him.

She doesn't know why, but she felt like crying so bed. She didn't even think of any other possibility but the possibility that he was gone. How? She doesn't know. Up until she hears the front door unlocked. She speeds back into the living room. He was back, with plastic bags in his hand. She was being hormonal, her eyes were all welled up. She charges towards him, and hugs him tightly. It was probably from sleeping when the sun is setting, she had a really confusing headache. He, who was caught off guard, dropped the bags.

'Noona?'

'Where did you go, bastard?' She says, hiding her head on his chest. He runs his fingers onto her back.

'To the market. You told me you wanted to have ddubokki for dinner.' He says.He rips her from his body. 'Noona.' He looks at her, wipes the little beads of tears on her cheeks. He laughs lightly. He picks up the bags from the floor that he accidentally dropped. He places it on the kitchen island, and picks something from the floor; a piece of paper. He hands it to her. 'It must have been blown away by the wind, my mistake.'

Noona, I'm getting you your ddubokki. Be back in twenty. It wrote. She looked at the paper once, crumpled it in her hands. 'I didn't wear my glasses.' She says, dropping the paper into the bin. She sniffs, clearing her sinus.

'Noona, where did you think I was?' He asked, following her to the bedroom. She must have wanted to go back to sleep. She slides into the covers, covering her head. An overwhelming sense of embarrassment washes over her.

He sits on the side of her bed, while lightly tapping on her thighs.

'Noona.' He utters, asking for her attention.

'What?' She says.

'Look at me.' He tries to pull the covers but she didn't let him. 'Noona.'

He forcefully pulled the covers from her head, and succeeded. She was crying. To be honest, she doesn't even know why she's crying.

'Noona, why are you being like this?' He pulls her into his arms, that were warm. She rested her head so comfortably, she didn't want to let go and just wanted to close her eyes and doze on his wide shoulders. His calming hand tapping her back, she could feel her heart melting in his hands. 'I'm not going anywhere, noona; I promise.'

That was when she realizes, she depended on him more than she thought. She realizes, instead of her, he was the work of art. A calming hand, a steady heart beat, he was the human stress ball for her; and that is everything she needs from him.

Everything she will ever need from him.

Chapter 111: I just finished reading this, but I can’t really decide if I liked it or not. I guess the events leading to the ending (after Chapter 95) was/is not my cup of tea, it kind of made me upset in a way since I love KwangMong, that’s why. But other than that, I loved your writing. KwangMong has been my ship, so thank you for this story :)

Chapter 5: Another great chapter.

I like how Kwang Soo is very caring towards Ji Hyo.
I also liked the way he stumbled when Ji Hyo asked the innocent question, "Did you sleep okay?" It was kinda endearing.

Although at the end of the chapter, I ended up feeling a little sorry for Ji Hyo. Yes, she was partly to blame for encouraging Kwang Soo to drink, but she had to be the one comforting him.

I kinda felt both characters cared deeply about the other. With Ji Hyo fixing him breakfast and then comforting him and with Kwang Soo apologising even though it was not entirely his fault for what happened the night before. And I like that you had him behave timidly. It feels like you are setting us up that he cares very deeply for her. If not he wouldn't be so afraid of shaking the status quo.

I'm so looking forward to find out what happens to them! I've upvoted and subscribed. You have yourself a fan!

Hey, I have to admit I was a silent reader to this and was pleasantly surprised when you updated and completed it! I just love your style of writing, it really captured my attention to the point where I binge read the first 50 chapters then realised that it was unhealthy hahaha.
It was such a roller coaster for both Ji Hyo and Kwang Soo, I had always thought that their relationship was moving so fast that it would hurtle of the tracks. It was such a bitter sweet open ending which leaves me hoping for something more. Overall the whole story was so realistic which I found captivating, it showed not only highs of a relationship but also the lows.
So thanks for sharing this. I can't wait for you next idea. I look forward to reading it.
