(Final) Where It Ends
Downing Today, Drowning TomorrowAn envelope on the dining room table. The soft wind blowing, the morning sun shining into the whole unit. The envelope seemed like an elephant in the room, in Song Ji Hyo's point of view. Lee Kwang Soo had left, starting the day really early by his standard. She scoured the house with her eyes. It feels like she had never left the place. Everything was where it was. But then even it felt like the room has not changed: the furniture didnt move an inch, her favorite coffee mug was still upside down in the place she wanted it to be everyday, her white coloured toothbrush still sitting in the blue cup next to his red one in the bathroom - things did change. Lee Kwang Soo that was once so devoted into making her feel loved and safe, didn't blink twice if she didnt love her back. The reason for that is simple, it is just simply because he didnt love her the way he did once love her. Maybe he does now, once it has all broken into tiny pieces. Lee Kwang Soo only loved her when she didnt want him to love her anymore. Or when she doesnt love him anymore.
Song Ji Hyo took the brown-coloured paper envelope and brought it to the office. She sets it in front of her as she sits on the leather spinning chair. She stares at the envelope wondering what was inside. She puts one leg up, and rests her hand under her chin. She deliberates slowly, thinking of how they got to be this way. Didnt they love each other the most? Weren't they so good for each other? She might have been so brazen yesterday, but she lacked the zest that had made her so fired up before. Now she is simply there, staring at the thing, unable to comprehend what has happened for the past few years they spent with each other. Wouldn't it have been much milder, much easier if she didn't get drunk that night. It would have spared her a lot of damage and hurt if she could have prevented just that one night.
She took the letter-opener from inside his desk drawer, as always she knew where everything was. As said, nothing much has changed. She opened it with a single and spilled all the documents to the table. The first piece of paper that caught her attention was the oddly-coloured one. Ivory-coloured, a bit more paler than the rest. His own personal stationery, his initials on top. The letter written with clear, concise words. His handwriting was something she could clearly recognize a mile away. He presses his fountain pen hard, but he had written it calmly.
"My dearest noona,
It has been such a pleasure, and a great honor to have loved you. And it seems like I have ran out of luck, and what a shame that is. I am sorry for the things I have done, I wish I could've given you the whole world just to love you again. Just to tell you how sorry I am. I hope one day, you will find some space in your heart to ever forgive me for hurting you."
She reviewed the papers that he had cultivated himself, surrendering almost everything he owned to her, even before they were even married. She was reluctant, but she signed anyways. If this is what he wanted then, who is she to say no? There was also a picture attached to his letter, black and white - a sonogram. It was a picture of her first ultrasound. At the back he wrote - "it was the best day of my life. Still the best day of my life."
And she cried so hard, so hard she couldn't breathe. All of the memories she tried to scrub off her mind. Lee Kwang Soo in her bed, playing with her hair. Lee Kwang Soo with his hair a mess, waking her up in the morning, the third time that day. Lee Kwang Soo and his strong shoulder bones, as sharp as a knife above her in bed, calling her name. All the things that made her love him. All of the things that made her, as if enchanted by his spell. and the baby that she loved, just because it was the result of their love. And she hated him for taking it all away for just a moment of weakness.
But she can be as mad as a mad dog, and curse of how the way things went. But when the time comes and the past becomes past, the only thing she could do was to let go.
She took one step to another, carrying the burden that she had acumulated thus far. So much things to learn, so much pain to endure, so much more love to give. She comes back home, it was all a distant memory. She had the whole day cancelled, her plans was just to have a glass of wine and to sleep. She crept into her empty bed, rewinding the things that had happen in the past.
Tomorrow must come, she thought. Tomorrow will come. No matter how much she has felt and endured, the past becomes the past.
Author's note:
I have written this story in 2015. Can you really believe it? Its been 3 years. And i'm writing the final in 2018. First of all, i'd like to thank everyone who has commented, upvoted and subscribed to this story thus giving me so much strength. And I apologize that I have not been so active in writing and when I do, the story ended haha. But I have good news, of course. I'm writing a new fanfic real soon. The only thing I can say is of course its going to feature Song Ji Hyo. I'll be taking requests for who her love interest will be, and I'm going to start writing real soon.
It has been an incredible journey. Seriously. This story has endured so much parts in my life and it was incredible making this story a medium to approaching those who love this kwang-mong as well. I wrote this story to sharpen my writing skills, keeping the motors running and oiled. I'm sorry if the ending was not up to anybody's expectation but there are things that those who endure can understand.
I'll update on this story soon for those who want to know what my next project is. I love you guys so much, and I hope you can give me as much love (or even more) on the next one coming!
