Snap Out Of It
Downing Today, Drowning TomorrowThe cast were all called for a abrupt fan meeting. When Lee Kwang Soo got the call, he was as if he was raised from the dead. He looked in the mirror, he realizes - he looked like . Thinner than he was supposed to be, he needed a shave as well. It has been weeks since the text was sent.
Sigh. The text.
Every night, he would look at the text she sent him, and it would keep him up all night. If only he had stayed, if only he waited for the explanation - most probably, this shouldn't have happened. Tabloids, celebrity magazines; they were all filled with coverage of the new couple. Song Ji Hyo and Lee Dong Wook is Dating!
How could it have happened? He know, that barbecue night that something is going to be unbelievably wrong. And he was correct. The sight of them kissing could no longer be erased. He tried hard to make sure he wasn't thinking about it, but it kept going on in his mind. Silently, he thinks that he was going crazy. If only I didn't tell her I don't want to see her anymore, would anything change? He refused a lot of jobs because of his too-skinny appearance. He couldn't do cover shoots and appearances until he is back in shape and healthy. Right now, even his jeans need to be belted.
Song Ji Hyo has been avoiding him. Everything she did was made sure that they do not clash. She wouldn't look at her in the eye, but his noona looked fine.
Noona.
Noona.
That word doesn't seem to leave his head. Everything about that night was wrong. Everything is just, completely, wrong. He looks at himself in the mirror, he told himself not to be bothered by it, but still, he was. He would lose track of time, sometimes he was so into it that he would spend hours in the gym; that has led him into looking leaner, but still skinny. Too skinny, since he wasn't eating. He was busy getting ready, when the doorbell rung. He ran to open it, with a toothbrush in his mouth, it was Jong Kook-hyung.
'You're up early, Kwang Soo-ah.' Jong Kook says, stepping inside his home. He just left Jong Kook to make himself at home, and went to the bathroom to finish washing up. He shaved, and that made him look much more thinner than ever. He had muscles that he never knew he had, but it seemed like it's going to end up showing his ribs. He wore his towel after showering, he greeted Jong Kook who was watching TV and eating peanuts. Seems like he's feeling snacky these days. Kwang Soo wore decently, but old clothes since his new ones felt like it was wearing him. A pair of three-quarter jeans and a black long-sleeved tee. He didn't even bother to style his hair, but merely just combed it decently. He went out, went to the fridge and got himself some cider.
'You look like , Kwang Soo, are you eating?' Jong Kook says. He was worried of Kwang Soo since he never hung out with them anymore. Usually, he would just call him up and hang out - but it seems like he never calls anymore. He knew what made her sad, but he doesn't know what he should to change it.
'I'm eating enough.' He merely says. 'It's still early to leave the house.' He says. He thought he was late, but it seemed like he wasn't. He took a seat next to Jong Kook-hyung, with his eyes on the TV mindlessly. It wasn't that he was actually watching, his mind was wandering aimlessly. Even when Jong Kook was calling him, he didn't respond up until Jong Kook smacked his arm.
'Yes, hyung?' He says, finally snapping out of it. It seems like he has been staring at the clock for more than half an hour, focusing on it. This was why he forgot to eat sometimes, his mind drifts and he couldn't actually know what to do.
'You've been staring at the cat-shaped clock on the wall for such a long time, I thought you were dead with your eyes open.' Jong Kook sighed as he pauses. 'You're a mess, Kwang Soo-ya. Let's just go to the gym together, work out, maybe even drink until morning. I know, she broke your heart but-'
He stopped Jong Kook from talking. 'She didn't.' He cleared his throat. 'How can someone break your heart when you have given nothing to them.'
Jong Kook gives up. He sighs slowly. 'Kwang Soo, it's been hard for you. I know. It's been hard for me too, since I need to see you like this..'
'Hyung! Why was it hard for you? You don't need to think of me like that. She's moved on, and so did I.'
'If you did, you wouldn't look like this, Lee Kwang Soo!' Jong Kook never has ever raised his voice with him. Somehow it caught him a little bit off guard, but it was nice - seeing that someone cared about him that much. 'Who would want to see this? My dongsaeng? Who would want to see this? Who would want to see them looking like a bag of bones? Who would want to see them drinking only tonic every single day and going to work as if they're dragged? I don't think you know the weight of how people care about you, Kwang Soo-ya. Even Ji Hyo's worried. Be here, Kwang Soo, I am not asking you to snap out of it, since it's something harsh to say to someone having a hard time, I know how you look at her. But you need to be here, Kwang Soo, you need to be here, because everybody here needs you.'
