Park J. W. The Writer

Downing Today, Drowning Tomorrow

themedicalscholar: Hi, guys, it's your author again. I know that this is sudden but I only just realize that it's already in the 64th chapter of DTDT, I am so proud of not ending this fanfic when it falls to short because sometimes I have a problem in trying to make sure that I do things consistently. But I wouldn't have done it without you guys that every time you say 'can't wait for the next update', it just makes my heart melt a bit and it keeps going. So thank you, again. as you may now just a while ago, I broke up with my boyfriend right, that might be why I am always putting this story in such a rollercoaster. I write best when I'm sad. But I will keep you guys on the edge of your seat and making sure that you love this story as much as I do.

Please, subscribe, vote and as I don't even need to mention anymore, comment! You guys really do make my day with your comments. Jinja. Much love xox

Two weeks. Lee Kwang Soo demanded a hiatus from his company for two weeks to get himself back up on his feet. He realized that nothing he would be doing is healing until he gets himself back up on his feet. But still, he had a weekly commitment with Running Man, so he couldn't skip two shows. He kept himself at home and sometimes around his newfound best friend, Park Joo Won from the gym. He would hang out at his place sometimes, and he found out that he was a cool guy.

When he first went to his house, it was still in boxes. The boxes would be filled with literature, sometimes manuscripts and papers. It seems like he's a writer. 'What kind of things do you write, Joo Won-ah?' Lee Kwang Soo asked, they were past honorifics, since they did spend a lot of time together. It didn't matter where, hunting for street food or maybe even visiting old bookstores - you name it. They couldn't do anything adventurous, that might need to wait for spring since it's too cold to spend so much time outside.

'Uh. What kind of things do I write, huh?' Joo Won jokingly said. He handed a beer to Kwang Soo, who was looking much better than before. He looked healthy again, he didn't look like a walking corpse as he did before.

Lee Kwang Soo merely laughed. 'Drama? Comedy? Romance? It seems like you really have old books here, and some are in English.' He says, squatting in front of the books inspecting them all, trying not to miss anything.

'Well, I used to write about my girlfriend, so romance, I guess.'

'I don't know if it's appropriate, but how did she die?' Kwang Soo asked.

'She died sickly, cancer. They found a tumor in her kidney. She was in stage four when they found it, so there was nothing they could do to save her but just to wait around, gave her morphine to reduce the pain until her last days. She died in her sleep, and I guess that's the best way to go, I guess.' Joo Won explained. 'It seemed like she was absolutely painless in her last few days, sometimes she couldn't feel anything at all. Like her body merely shuts down, she finally got some sleep before instead of going to doctor appointments.'

'I'm sorry, Joo Won-ah.'

'It's okay, it's in the past anyways. I'm just glad that I watched her that night, she looked like a cat curling up next to me, funny, she didn't even smell like the hospital that last night. I went to the store and got a pack of cigarettes that morning - she was still sleeping, and when I came back, her family house became too quiet, it was odd since when I walked to the convenience store five minutes from the house, all of my hairs stood up. I guess by the time i walked back, she was already gone. She was funny in some way.' Joo Won said, as he watched the TV. He spoke lightly of her, as if he was telling a story of somebody else's.

'I never had that kind of experience. Losing someone you love.' Kwang Soo said.

'Well, you will, and you better prepare for that.' Joo Won said. Kwang Soo looked at his study, and found a book - bound perfectly, hard cover. 'Wilting Daisies' was on the cover. 'By Park J. W.' written on that also.

'Is this your writing, Joo Won?' He asked, lifting the book for him to see.

'Yeap.' He merely said.

'Wait, I've seen this book before. In bookstores, I mean. It's a bestseller. I think I've seen you in TV too, thought you looked familliar.' He walked towards Joo Won and sat on the sofa set. 'Yet you live in a two-bedrrom apartment in a ty neighborhood, are you sure you're him?' Kwang Soo asked jokingly.

'Funny isn't it? I just don't like big places, and to me, this is enough.' He says.

'Of course, people could live in a rat hole and still survive. But you're making money, and I bet you have a lot of money too. Why won't you get a nice penthouse or something?'

'I know, I can afford it. Everybody knows that, even you. But still, I like this place. It has a good vibe to it, and it keeps me grounded. Making sure that I don't claim myself more than I am worth.'

That made Kwang Soo like him more. It's not like he was bragging or anything, everything he said was sincere. He was like an open book, everything he said is what he thinks. Somehow Kwang Soo thought it was refreshing, since it didn't feel like he was hiding anything. The only thing he's hiding is the things he never told him yet. And that was night.

'Where are you from, before though?' Kwang Soo asked.

'North Gyeongsang province.'

Ah, noona, you seem to follow me around everyday. 'Nice place.'

'Yeah, close to the harbour.'

'Pohang?' Kwang Soo asked.

He nods.

'You're a little bit far from home, aren't you?'

Joo Won smiles. 'The further I am to that place, the better.'

Lee Kwang Soo came back home after eating jjajangmyeon with his new 'bestfriend', he was full since they ordered a full meal and demanded mandu as service. He asked Joo Won to borrow his book, but he said it was best just to take away from his hands, since he had much more. He read it all night, since it was a thick book, he managed to finish a quarter of it.

He liked how Joo Won described his past girlfriend. He had this entire image of her, just by his words.

Her smile was like emeralds, even when I saw her as she sat near the harbour. Bulked up since the wind was blowing too hard on her, she has never been resilient to the cold. I finally looked at her properly, the little dimples that crept under her cheeks - she looked divine. The breeze from the sea made her hair dance, and I know how much she liked dancing. Instead of keeping my heart in her sleeve, she kept it deep in her coat, making sure that my love for her is warm and everlasting.

I thought, yes, this is love.

If this isn't, I don't know what is. 'Oppa.' She called me.

'What is it, Hyun Rae-ya?' I answered.

'Am I your first love?'

I fidgeted, but she knew, she wasn't my first. 'Well, no, but it feels like I fall in love with you for different reasons everyday - so does that count as something?'

'Oppa.' She calls me first, pushing her hair back with her slender fingers. 'You're full of .' That was my Hyun Rae, she was rude, but still, I need her more than anyone.

I pull her in close, the wind blows, I could smell the fruity shampoo she would always wear. I kissed her slowly, she tasted like her lunch but to me, that was okay, since it's her. Hyun Rae in the kitchen, making the month's fill of homemade kimchi. Hyun Rae making coffee for me, since I am always trying to push away deadlines and do everything last minute. Hyun Rae in bed, I could hear her softly sleeping; while hoping she dreams of me.

'I'm not going to live long, oppa.' She says as soon as their lips parted. 'I'm dying.'

As soon as Lee Kwang Soo read the end of that chapter, he closed the book and decided he needed to sleep. The book was taking a toll in his heart, he had to admit, Park Joo Won is a skilful writer. Kwang Soo could imagine Park Joo Won and Baek Hyun Rae together, with their hands intertwined and her head on his broad shoulders.

He remembers Park Joo Won saying, 'God is unfair sometimes.' And he had to admit that he was right. Two people, so good with each other like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, not being together. As if the second jigsaw puzzle went away from the box, leaving Joo Won to handle being alone. Reading his novel, felt like his head is going to be heavier - so heavy since he knew the ending.

Song Ji Hyo, when are you coming back to me? Slowly, his eyes shuts slowly, he had forgot to turn off his reading light. But one thing for sure, that night, he thought of her.

Chapter 111: I just finished reading this, but I can’t really decide if I liked it or not. I guess the events leading to the ending (after Chapter 95) was/is not my cup of tea, it kind of made me upset in a way since I love KwangMong, that’s why. But other than that, I loved your writing. KwangMong has been my ship, so thank you for this story :)

Chapter 5: Another great chapter.

I like how Kwang Soo is very caring towards Ji Hyo.
I also liked the way he stumbled when Ji Hyo asked the innocent question, "Did you sleep okay?" It was kinda endearing.

Although at the end of the chapter, I ended up feeling a little sorry for Ji Hyo. Yes, she was partly to blame for encouraging Kwang Soo to drink, but she had to be the one comforting him.

I kinda felt both characters cared deeply about the other. With Ji Hyo fixing him breakfast and then comforting him and with Kwang Soo apologising even though it was not entirely his fault for what happened the night before. And I like that you had him behave timidly. It feels like you are setting us up that he cares very deeply for her. If not he wouldn't be so afraid of shaking the status quo.

I'm so looking forward to find out what happens to them! I've upvoted and subscribed. You have yourself a fan!

Hey, I have to admit I was a silent reader to this and was pleasantly surprised when you updated and completed it! I just love your style of writing, it really captured my attention to the point where I binge read the first 50 chapters then realised that it was unhealthy hahaha.
It was such a roller coaster for both Ji Hyo and Kwang Soo, I had always thought that their relationship was moving so fast that it would hurtle of the tracks. It was such a bitter sweet open ending which leaves me hoping for something more. Overall the whole story was so realistic which I found captivating, it showed not only highs of a relationship but also the lows.
So thanks for sharing this. I can't wait for you next idea. I look forward to reading it.
