Broken Soju Bottles
Downing Today, Drowning TomorrowLee Kwang Soo woke up, feeling like death. After meeting his noona last night, he bought so much soju bottles that he can find from the convenient store, went up to his room and drank on his veranda. He never actually drowns his sadness with alcohol, but last night was a different occasion. It seems like every hope is lost, Kwang Soo kept repeating as he drank and drank again. He did not even know when he out. He woke up and had to drag himself to the kitchen because he got dehydrated.
Then his doorbell rang, and the volume of the ringing feels louder than usual. He glanced at the clock and exclaimed to himself, WHY?
He abruptly opened and said, 'What?' Leaving Song Ji Hyo kind of puzzled.
'Noona!' He abruptly got surprised. Song Ji Hyo pressed her nostrils with her fingers. She felt like she was going to lose her nose if she breathed. 'Noona, why are you here?'
'Ah, chongmal.' She says, pushing him inside while she entered.
'Your coffee, and I brought muffins. Before that, you should go and shower, you smell so similar to death, or a cadaver.' She says. He just nodded, even if he was in a daze, he rushed into the bathroom. Song Ji Hyo went into his kitchen and checked his fridge, as if it was her own home. Who cares, she's the noona. She looked at the empty bottles on the veranda, it's fall already, he's going to catch a cold if he stays outside at night.
Freshly-showered Kwang Soo went out of the bathroom in a pair of straight-cut jeans that made him look taller than he already is and a black tee that matched his pants. All of the alcohol stench eliminated, but still the whole house smells like soju. He went out finding Ji Hyo squatting on the floor, picking up the bottles, some broken.
He rushed towards her. 'Noona, just leave it be, I'll take care of it.' He says, urging.
'It's okay, I can handle it- ow.' She says, up until she got a cut on her finger.
'Aish, noona.' He says, pulling her up and sitting her down onto the sofa. He looked for the first aid kit in the bathroom. But went out empty-handed, and went to the kitchen where he found the kit. He went back to her, and opened it up. He looked at the cut on her hand, and cleaned it for her with alcohol. She complained in pain.
'I told you to leave it, why do you never listen noona?' He says, and Song Ji Hyo just stared at her. As he cleaned it, he rose his head and looked at her, smiling at him.
'What?' He had crinkles between his eyebrows.
'I like seeing you like this. You were always the one that protects me.' She utters slowly, just loud enough to reach his ears.
He blew on it, trying to soothe it, and finally wrapped it with a small bandage. 'It's done.' Listening to that made him incredibly confused to why she was there. Immediately, he stood and cleaned up the bottles with a broom. She just watched him.
'Why did you drink so much, Kwang Soo?' She asks him. He didn't answer her question, leaving it float out in the open.
'Alright, different question then, why didn't you let me talk last night?'
Even then, he didn't answer.
'Okay, that's another pass. Why do you like me, Kwang Soo-ya?' She asks. Then he stopped cleaning, and looked at her. He abruptly walked towards her, without speaking, he landed his lips on her.
