AWAY FROM YOUR EYES Scene 1.2

Three days since the settled date for the wedding, also the day her love met in an awful accident that brought her and her family and friends here in this place – filled with tears and heartaches. Tiffany was sure that there was no one feeling as broken as her. Not even Taeyeon's parents or siblings. It was her other half of her soul lying on the bed, motionlessly. That was her love; the love of her life. It felt as if half her life was gone. Bawling day and night continuously tired her out tremendously, and yet it didn't stop Tiffany from staying in the ward every single second.

No matter how much everyone comforted her and persuaded her to head home for a good rest or just a simple shower to freshen herself up, she refused. She wanted to be by Taeyeon's side every moment, await for her to wake up – be the first person Taeyeon would see.

Dear Tae Tae,
how long has it been since the last time I wrote you a letter? I still remember we used to write love letters even before we got together. That was how you confessed to me, remember? Keke.

Back at that fateful day when the doctors finally exited the surgery room after a six hours operation on the girl, family and friends of the victim were warned about Taeyeon's condition. Even after the surgery, Taeyeon was not out of danger. She needed to pass the first twenty four hours, and only after that, she would be stable.

Everyone hoped and Tiffany prayed the most earnestly. Knelt down and hands clamped together in front of her chest. She stayed that way, praying silently with desperation for hours. It ached her friends' hearts, and definitely her parents'. But that didn't affect her. She continued. That's all she could do anyway. But it was clearly that her faith was slipping away an hour after next when her tears began to fall unceasingly and the trembles of her body became vigorously noticeable.

But despite everything, twenty four hours went by with grace and Taeyeon was still breathing. It wasn't until the fifth day in the hospital, Taeyeon finally regained conscious. Tiffany was the first to notice the tiny fidget in Taeyeon's left fingers and she soon alerted whoever was in the ward with her loud callings of Taeyeon's name. It didn't struck her with the knowledge of calling for the doctor at the moment and thankfully Taeyeon's brother were clear headed enough to take up that responsibility.

“Tae Tae! You're awake! You're awake! How are you feeling? Are you feeling okay, Tae Tae?”
“Pa... Pani?”
“Yes, Tae Tae! I am here! I am here! What do you need? Are you thirsty? Do you want some water?”
“Y..Yes...”
“Wait a minute!”

Tiffany stretched herself further her right and poured a glass of water clumsily but was able to get her task done. She held tight the glass and sat right beside Taeyeon on the bed. Slowly she guided the tip towards her lover and helped tilted the glass so Taeyeon could drink easily.

“Th...Thank you Pani...”
“Silly. What's there to thank me for. I'm suppose to do these things.”
“But Pani... Why is it so dark in here? Did you like close all the curtains up? If it's in the night, you know it's not necessary.”
“What are you talking about, Tae Tae?”
“It's dark. I can't see anything. Not even your face. Where are you by the way?”
“I... I'm right beside you, Tae Tae... And... And it's morning. The curtains are drawn but it's bright still with –”

It struck Tiffany's mind and she instinctively dropped the glass on the floor which shattered in pieces within seconds, and grabbed Taeyeon by both sides of her cheeks and made their faces only inches apart. Her heart was as if falling from a hundred feet above and all she felt was blood rushing through her body.

“Tae Tae, look at me. Look at me!”
“I can't. It's dark, I can't see anything. Turn on the lights first. And did you just broke something?”
“Taeyeon ah! Don't care about that and look at me first! It's not in the night! The room is freaking bright! Taeyeon! Look at me! LOOK AT ME!”
“What are – ”
“Tiffany, the doctor's here!”

The voice of Taeyeon's brother rang through the room and soon, a man in white coat entered with him following closely behind.

“Sorry Miss Hwang. I have to check the patient. Would you please step aside for awhile?” The doctor spoke politely. But he was ignored when Tiffany's loud voice echoed through the room.

“Taeyeon ah, Taeyeon. Listen to me. Blink your eyes again and try looking at me. Please...” Tiffany begged. She did not want what her thoughts had told her to be true. Her grip on Taeyeon's face were tight but gentle enough to not felt hurtful for Taeyeon. And hearing from the desperation in her love's voice, Taeyeon complied and blinked several times. It was futile.

“Pani ah, still nothing. Can you just turn on the lights first? I don't have night vision you know?”

Tae Tae, I would rather we not get married and just be like how we used to be if I'd known what would happen.
The moment you woke up, I was so happy and relieved. Believe me, I felt as if I was in heaven. But the moment when you asked me why was it so dark, my heart crashed.
