I woke up first to find my forehead on his collarbone, one hand on his chest. The steady rhythm assured me that he was beside me in flesh. I didn’t move a limb in fear of waking him up. Suddenly the door flew open and I turned my head in panic. “Shh..” I hissed, putting a finger to my lips indicating they should be quiet. They shuffled in quietly and closed the door. Kyungsoo came and placed some plastic bags on the side table.

“Are you both going to be alright?” he whispered, bending close. “Hyung!” Kai suddenly exclaimed, making me jump. He got off the bed and embraced D.O. and the others one by one. “You need to sit in here for scans,” the nurse said, bring in a wheelchair. “I can walk.” I stated as I removed the IV needle myself. “Dongy..” Chanyeol gave me a disapproving look. “Don’t make us force you. You know we’ll do it.” Suho warned.

Having no other option I plonked myself into chair and I realized EXO had formed a single file behind me with Kai being in font. “None of you are coming with me. Wait here, it’s just a scan.” I told them, horrified at the idea of other people in the room. After going through the standard procedure for an MRI scan, I was escorted back to my room. “How long will the results take?” Xiumin asked, after I had settled back on the bed.

“About an hour or two. MH said he’ll be herewith them as fast as possible.” I answered. “Can you eat now?” Kyungsoo gently prods. “Yes I could eat a little.” I chuckle.  He smiles and opens the plastic containers of food he had brought and puts a little food on a paper plate. “Let me..” Kai who had been quiet all along said taking the plate from my hands. He fed me without another word.

“If you’re a good girl and you finish the food quickly I might let you have some of that cheesecake.” Kris teased, pointing at the plastic. “I’m not sharing even one bite with you.” I challenged him. “Ungrateful brat! I drove all the way and back.” Kris said, trying to act cute. “You’re many thousand miles away from cute. Plus I’m pretty sure you ate some already!” I scoffed. “I’m sure you’re right!” SangHee exclaimed as she stepped in.

Knowing she bothered to come and visit me made me really happy and the grin on my face made that really apparent. Then I realized if she was here she must know. “I always knew, from the very beginning.” she explained, causing the boys to gawk at her. “Trust me it was really funny how you liked everyone but Kai whom you were actually here for. All the pranks that you both pulled on each other! Look at you now being all lovey-dovey!” she laughed causing everyone to follow. 

I snuck a look at Kai who was sitting there unamused, glaring at SangHee. When he caught me looking at him he mouthed a quick ‘Sorry’ before looking away. I guess he felt sorry for all the pranks he played. A knock made all of them stop laughing and turn to MH who was currently standing at the door. “Your scan results are absolutely fine. There are no complications. You were lucky, yet again.” he stated.

I knew he grew more and more frustrated every time I was at the hospital with wounds worse than before. “I think it’s better you get some rest now,” he said and pointedly looked at everyone, signaling them to leave.  “Come on guys precious mei mei needs to rest!” Surprisingly it was Tao ushering everyone out. I laughed when he said that, causing him to glare at me. “If you’re a good girl and recover really fast I’ll treat you to Baozi!” Xuimin promised before going out.

“I’ll challenge you to a soccer match!” Luhan winked. “I’ll dance a duet with you!” Lay said as he was pushed out. “Enough now.. Let’s go hyungs. None of the offers are tempting enough anyway.” Sehun joined Tao.  “I’ll come visit again tomorrow!” SangHee waved, leaving with the boys. “Scoot over.” Kai said, wanting to climb into bed with me. “You should get some rest.” he said simply, pushing my head to his chest. I sighed and waited for sleep to take over.

 “I know hyung, I did want to ask her all day. However I don’t want to make her feel upset.” Kai whispered, holding a phone to his ear. The light breeze from the window ruffled his hair casually and it made him look so much younger. “Hyung what if she does say yes? What will I do then? I’m scared to know her answer. I won’t be able to hold her back if she does say she has to leave. I can’t hold her back.” he asserted.

“Okay then, I’ll ask her tomorrow. Yeah goodnight..” he ended the conversation. I pretended to be asleep as he climbed back. Needles pricked at my heart knowing the impact of the decision I had yet to make. I needed to talk to Eric very soon and decide what to do.  If I stayed here, I would have to make sure Kai comes to no harm because of me.

“Kai! Mia! get up.. Kai someone who claims to be your family is here.. I need you to verify before they can come up.” MH shook us awake. “I’ll be down in a minute..” Kai said, getting off the bed. “You can’t bring them up.. Please..” I said, gripping his arm. He held my face his in hands, making me really look at him.

“Umma won’t bite. Last time was just a misunderstanding. She really wants to meet you. Trust me on this..please?” he requested. “She hates me. Please Kai.. Not in a hospital for God’s sake. I’ll meet her lat.. Okay.” I said, suddenly determined. “Okay?” he asked, confused. “Bring her up..” I said. ‘This might be the one and only chance I get.’ I thought to myself.  

He quickly slipped past the bed and walked out of the door before coming back in. “You’re sure right?” he asked, face completely serious. “Yes.” I answered even though all I wanted was to go back to sleep and pretend this isn’t happening. “Thanks!” he said and rushed out only to come back in. “Mia?” he called. I looked up to see him smiling. “Saranghae.” he whispered, sending a flying kiss my way.
