Jongup 69

B.A.P. Oneshots II

“You need to make sure that all your inertia is towards the center of your weight. You sort of need to think yourself as a compacted ball and just put all the energy into your core. Then you can spin without being all topsy turvy.”

Your mouth fell open and you winced. “That’s a bit difficult.”

Your instructor laughed and spun again for demonstration. “I’m not really sure how I do it either,” he confessed and you clapped a hand over your mouth to stop yourself from bursting into obnoxious laughter. Sometimes Jongup could be so silly.

“Well if you’re not even positive, how do you expect to teach me?” you teased.

His ears turned bright red and he looked around the dance studio. His face brightened and he got out a mannequin. “Look at this mannequin. Do you see how still it is? If I wanted to spin it, I can’t. That’s because it’s mass is spread out across everything. But people can concentrate force at a certain place, apply more pressure here rather than there. Is that better?”

“I can’t decide whether this is legitimate physics or you just making stuff up as you go along. But it sounds pretty legit. Now how to understand and apply? School and learning is all about that application you know.”

He grinned and pinned his arms to his sides, making a goofy face. “I’m all squished up into my center,” he squeaked and you shook your head, unable to control your laughter. He could be so silly when he wanted to be, and sometimes when he didn’t want to.

            “Alright. Now spin.”

“But in order to spin, you need your arms out to help you balance, so I’m going to unsquish myself. I just wanted to show you how to carefully center your weight. Your arms are like those flying buttresses in the old cathedrals!” His face brightened as he thought about it. “Yes! That’s how you can think of them. They support your mass and help you rotate, like wings.”

He spread his arms and spun off his foot. You saw him place his feet together and then he was a blur until he came to a still. You got up and attempted to emulate what you had just seen. “Also, keep your feet flat on the ground but lightly. This way you won’t be just angling on your toes. We don’t really need to be ballerinas. We just want to spin and go!”

You bit your lip in concentration. You wanted to feel the gravity tug on your center and tried to spin only to lose your balance a little. Your arms flew out and Jongup chuckled. “Silly, didn’t I tell you you had to spread your arms out to fly? Nobody flies on nonexistent wings.”

You stuck your tongue out at him and he took your arms, holding them out from you. “Try again. If you’re just trying to get the feel for it, don’t spin yet! But if you want to go, then I’ll be here to catch you.”

You tried to hide your blush but he seemed oblivious, much to your relief. You concentrated yourself and then pushed off your right foot, trying to spin. It didn’t work that well. “How do you do it with both feet flat?”

Jongup frowned. “How about you try squatting down and then slowly coming up? Or would that be harder? Let me see.” You moved out of the way so he could try.

He squatted and you noticed that he pushed off the strength of his legs to fully spin. “Try it,” he offered.

You were nervous. “Not everyone has such fantastic leg muscles as you do, you know.”

He grinned shyly this time as he normally did whenever people mentioned his well toned body. “Ah, it doesn’t take that much. Go for it,” he encouraged.

You squatted down and pushed off, spinning a little more but forgetting to spread your arms out again. Jongup sighed. “Arms out!” He got down and spun up, his arms flying out and accidentally hitting you.

The two of you went toppling over and he landed awkwardly on top of you. You stared into each other’s eyes for a moment and you could feel your heart race. These type of scenes was supposed to be reserved for dramas only. Jongup looked away but didn’t move.

He seemed to be deep in thought for a moment before his head came down and he gave you a quick peck. “Ilikeyou,” he mumbled and scrambled off you.

You could see his embarrassment despite his normally darker complexion. You were still in shock at what had happened so you couldn’t respond properly for a full minute. “Ah,” you didn’t quite know how to respond.

Jongup didn’t look at you and you knew you had to do something before he got the wrong idea. So you spread your arms out and spun your way, albeit a little fumbling, to him. You lost your balance at the last minute and knocked into him again. This time, he held you up and you beamed at him.

“I guess you’ll always be the one to catch me when I fall. But can you catch me when I tell you I’m falling for you?” You laughed loudly to shake off the corniness of your own confession and Jongup laughed with you, the two of you forgetting about the lesson at hand. Who cared when there was young love to celebrate?
