When I needed someone the most you were there to save me, when I thought I had nothing left you told me I had you, when I thought I couldn’t go on you carried me the rest of the way. Then you were gone, I had to become strong, and suddenly all that you told me was making sense. Onew thank you, cared about me when no one else did, you urged me on when I thought I could do no more.

“You know you act like he did you this great favor.” Doojoon says watching me bake my yearly thank you cake. “It’s been how long since you last say the guy?”

Chuckling I look at my older brother, him giving me that same dazed expression when we talk about Onew, “He did oppa, he happened to bring me back from the edge. He made me believe again, so I think you should watch your mouth, and besides it really doesn’t matter when the last time I saw him was. All I know is that I am truly thankful to have had him in my life when I did.” I tell him finishing the icing, squirting a little onto Doojoon’s finger that was close to my cake. “Yah, hands off. I bake for you all the time.” I reprimand him.

Frowning he the icing off his finger. “Not with the care that you do for this ghost.” He mutters upset. “Anyways why don’t you just take it to him in person instead of sending a delivery boy?”

Sighing I look over at the box waiting for the cake to be placed inside. “To put it simply, I’m not sure if I am ready, if I’ve become that person he saw in me when no one else did.” I confess to my brother, him looking at me sourly. “I don’t blame you for being away, I honestly don’t.”

“You didn’t say a word to me. It hurts, we’re all that’s left after the accident, and I’m sorry I had to leave you all on your own…” Doojoon says hugging me. After our parents died in Japan during the earthquakes, and soon after Doojoon joined the army, unsure what to do, leaving me alone in Seoul. “It’s ok, I told you already.” I tell him ruffling his hair. “So stop worrying about it.”

Sighing he smiles at me. “I think you should take this one in person. You’ve definitely become stronger so go.” He says smiling as I wrap the cake delicately. “I know you can do it.”

Pressing the doorbell I look down at the box in my hands, seeing the door open I see Onew answering it, a smile coming to his face. “Ah, the mysterious thank you cakes solved?” He says opening the door for me to come in. “I thought I’d never see you again Iseul.” He says softly, taking the cake from my hands while I stand stunned in his entry way.

“Why?” I ask him finally coming to my senses as I see a boy running past me and to Onew. “Onew?” I ask following him gingerly.

“Hyung who’s this?” The same boy asks looking back at me to the cake. “Oh, is this Iseul?!” He asks excitedly, shocked I watch Onew smile at the boy, and then looking at me nodding his head. “Noona it’s nice to meet you finally! You send him cakes and he just smiles like that for days!”

“Yah, Taemin, manners.” Onew says gently, yet in a demanding tone. “Sorry, he’s excited.”

Taemin pouts looking from him back to me, “I’ll go get something over there.” He mutters bowing to me before dashing off.

Smiling Onew offers me a seat, placing a plate and fork in front of me, serving me a slice of the cake I’d prepared for him, and one for him. “You know you were quiet back then too.” Onew comments taking a seat next to me.

Chuckling I smile at him. “I’m nervous.” I tell him quietly. “I’ve wanted to tell you in person for a long time now.” I tell him glancing over at Onew, him grinning at me. “Thank you for everything.”

Shaking his head he pokes my cheek. “Is your brother back?” He asks me changing the subject, nodding my head he smiles again. “I’m glad it worked out for you, you two must be close again right?”

Laughing I poke him this time. “We are, but I came here to tell you more than thank you.” I tell him finally finding my voice, giving me an oh-really-look he nods for me to continue. “I wanted to tell you how I feel” Blushing I take a deep breath before kissing his cheek. “I like you a lot, and I know I was selfish because you gave and gave, and I took and took, but I think I know what you mean now.”

Beaming he faces me directly. “Then you know?”

“That I like you so much that I missed you as soon as you turned away?” I ask him smiling softly. “I’m sorry it took me so long to realize Onew.”

Shaking his head he caresses my face. “You found yourself, your strength and more importantly you did it on your own.”

This time I shake my head. “I had your help; you kept nudging me in the right direction.” I mumble as his forehead rests against mine. “You never gave up on me.”

Something sweet for Onew, and leaving me a somewhat open ending ^^
