Chapter 8
Dragon of the EastThere was something about this coffee shop. For example, the workers knew him and didn't go "My daughter's a big fan, may I have your autograph?" Maybe he came here often? Then there was the fact that he wasn't hiding. In fact, he was hiding while he drove us here, then shed his disguise like he came home.
He waved at a girl listening to her iPod. She smiled and waved back then took to her device again.
We sat at a table near the middle. The table was round, and not exactly big, just roomy enough. There were little doodles on the surface that I couldn't decide if they were the design of the table or if someone who came here just released their artistic expression one day.
The air conditioner felt good on this hot summer day. A waitress came to our table. She was an old ahjumma. She smiled. "Anyounghasayo!" she said. She looked between me and him and just gave me a teasing look. I blushed.
"Anyoung! This is my good friend Kim." Jiyong-ssi said. I smiled and said hello.
The ahjumma gave us cutesy little menus and left us to decide. Jiyong-ssi probably already knew because he set his menu down and stared at me expectantly.
"Ummm..." I said tentatively. "Is the mocha latte here any good?" He chuckled. "What?" I said defensively. "What did I say?!" His laugh was infectious, and soon I joined him.
"Wow. I swear, I knew you would say that!" he said after a few minutes of joyous laughter. He wipes a tear from his eye.
"How did you know?" I asked him. "Even I didn't know!"
"I just had a feeling!" he said. The ahjumma rejoined us.
"Have you decided?" she asked.
"Yes." Jiyong-ssi said. "Two mocha lattes please." he smiled.
The ahjumma nodded and left us for a second time.
"So, where exactly are we?" I asked him.
"You couldn't tell by the people?" he asked me, to which I shook my head. His eyes went wide and his mouth hung down in shock.
"This cafe is YG exclusive. That girl sitting over there, is Park Bom. You've never heard of her?" He sounded surprised.
"I'm sure I've heard her, just never heard of her."
