Chapter 60
Dragon of the EastWe sat at the cafeteria, over a cup of non-fat frozen yogurt for me and a vanilla pudding for Mr. Song.
"So what's wrong?" he leaned in and asked.
A girl from our team passed by our table and waved at me. "You did great today!"
"Thank you, unnie!" I said, and bowed my head. When she was gone, I turned back to Mr. Song.
A man walked up to him, he was one of my "brothers". I think his name was... Min Dong..? He smiled at me, then to Mr. Song, he said something private. Then he walked away.
When we were finally alone and undisturbed, I told him the story.
"So, a few years back, I dated this guy, for a week and then we broke up for a whole bunch of reasons, but we still loved each other." I said.
Mr. Song nodded attentively.
"So gradually we went back to being just friends, and I didn't see him for a while but we spoke on the phone a lot. And in there somewhere, he got a girlfriend." I continued.
He scooped up the last of his pudding and ate it, still listening.
"So then another couple of months and we met up, just to see each other, but it went all wrong and instead, we had a fight. We went our separate ways then, and I got myself another boyfriend, and he was still with his girlfriend. He enlisted for the military."
Mr. Song propped his arms onto the table and leaned forward as I spooned my frozen yogurt.
"And then my boyfriend... Passed away." I felt tears in my eyes as if I was reliving those times. Mr. Song looked sad to see me upset.
"If you don't wanna talk about it, you don't have to." he reached out and patted my hand.
I shook my head. "I have to let it out." He gave me a moment to breathe, then I continued. "Anyway, so after his funeral, his girlfriend calls me and says she feels the need to fill in her boyfriend's place as my friend, so she asks me to go for coffee, which really surprised me because I was ninety-nine percent sure she hated me down to the last fiber of my being. I accepted and we went and she told me she was..." The word got caught in my throat. Wasn't she simply doing what Jiyong-ssi asked of me a year earlier?
Mr. Song's eyes went wide. "Is she..." he lowered his voice. "...pregnant?"
