Shattered Illusions
Golden Quill - The Leaders (GQ3)Sung-kyung gripped Kai’s jacket. Too afraid to let go in case she was dreaming again.
“Hello Superfan,”
Sung-kyung inhaled, his scent invaded her, she felt dizzy. His hand was still on her cheek, warm, familiar – comforting and made her heart race.
Kai heard the sound of hurried footsteps coming down the stairs. At the same time the front door of the store was thrown open and Chen, Minah and Kris rushed in. The moment they shared, whatever it was, was over.
Kai’s hand dropped abruptly.
No! Sung-kyung could feel the warmth leaving. His face became unreadable. Sung-kyung suddenly felt cold.
September used the arrival of the others to rush out the door.
This situation suddenly made a whole lot of sense to Kai. The secrecy, the reason why September always seemed to be around Chen, Kris and Kyungsoo over the last couple of weeks, why his brother and sister refused to accept Lilly. His eyes narrowed coldly. He looked down at Sung-kyung – it was because of her.
Sehun reached for Sung-kyung and helped her up carefully “Kwenchana?” she nodded meekly, sneaking a look at Kai. Sehun sighed heavily. She’d just been through a major incident and all she could see was Kai.
“What’s wrong with you?” Kyungsoo accused Kai, “Make sure Sung-kyung isn’t hurt.” he handed Sung-kyung to Haneul and Arran. Minah rushed over and the four women moved to the opposite side of the store, “Don’t be so cold…the woman was almost killed by a giant chandelier.”
Kai held up a hand and the men grew quiet. Hah! Besides big mouth Kyungsoo, the others didn’t have much to say now that he’d caught them out. “This is all fascinating,” Kai looked around the destroyed store, “All of you…” he pointed, “Colluded to work against my engagement to Lilly.” At least Chen and Kris looked guilty,
Kyungsoo stared at him with that deadpan, I wanna hit you so bad expression,
It didn’t even look like Sehun listened to him. Sehun realised by now that Isa must have gone after Zhang Yixing and he was stuck here listening to a lecture from Kai.
“It won’t work.” He said loud enough for Sung-kyung to hear. Haneul grabbed Sung-kyung’s hand in comfort. So, she wasn’t the only one suffering through an unrequited love after all. Sung-kyung lowered her head. A moment ago Kai had saved her, he’d held her in his arms, called her by that annoying nickname. “All of you have a lot to explain. Not just to me, but to our parents as well.” Kai continued,
Sehun and Kyungsoo exchanged a look. This was always going to happen when Kai found out, but it would have been worth it if he chose Lee Sung-kyung. It frustrated Kai to see the closeness between his brother and best friend. There was a time when he knew exactly what Sehun was thinking with just a look.
“If Lilly means so much to you, then what are you doing here?” Sung-kyung marched across the room and jabbed a finger into Kai’s chest, “You can’t lie to me Lee Jongin.”
Kai scoffed, “You think I came here for you?” Sung-kyung felt a pain forming in the pit of her stomach. “Don’t kid yourself Lee Sung-kyung. How dare you come back and try and insert yourself into my life!” his voice rose, “You manipulated my family and if you…
Sung-kyung grabbed him by the arm and yanked him out the store. Kai was so shocked that he followed. It was only when they were outside that he
