FLO POV

It was near New year and there were already fireworks flying everywhere. We had all just realized that noises especially loud noises are not good for animals most especially dogs so I brought Butter down to the floor before the roof top.

Kai was holding the box while I was holding butter who was barking at the loud noises.

“Poor baby. Don’t be scared.” I said to it soothingly. I kissed it’s furry head softly.

I think I heard Kai murmur something like ‘lucky puppy’ or something but I didn’t hear it clearly since there was loud bangs from the fireworks outside.

“Five minutes to new year.” Kai said looking at the watch I gave him. It glimmered in the lights. They all knew it was expensive but I didn’t tell them how much it truly was since it was a restored watch from the dancer who the engraving was dedicated to. I just thought it perfectly match what Kai did to me. Although he doesn’t know that too.

“You like your present?” I ask him indicating the watch.

“Of course I never got to thank you for it.” he answered.

Well he did thank me not in words though. My heart skipped a beat as I remembered Christmas and his kiss. My mind wandering as it remembered how good it felt even thou it was only for a few seconds. I should have responded or something but my mind just went blank like it melted- more like overheated from the electricity that pulsed in my veins that moment his lips hit mine.

I do remember kissing him before leaving.

I wanted to talk to him after that but uncle appeared at my door step the next day.

I want to talk to him now but I think I’m losing my nerve. I wanted to ask him if he kissed me if he likes me then what about his feelings for Minny? That was all that has been bugging me for weeks now.

I think most girls by now should have read into his actions. Kai is a sweet guy especially when it comes to me but it’s just so ingrained in my mind to ask for actual facts like words from him before actually concluding that he does like me.

And not to mention how easily I get jealous when girls fawn over him. It’s getting out of hand actually. I’m even jealous when he hugs Minny. Sheeze. I’m losing it.

“A penny for your thoughts.” Kai said interrupting my musings.

I sighed and smiled at him as I put Butter gently inside the box. We heard the 10 second countdown from above.

10-9-8-7-6-54-3-2-1..!

Fireworks. Loud noises.

It’s the start of a new year.

And my puppy is barking hard.

Kai place the lid on its box and Butter quiet down.

The lights casted by the fireworks coloring his hair in different hues and his face hallowed out. His cheekbones more prominent.

I leaned down and kissed his cheek.

“Happy new year Oppa.” I said to him softly.

He looks at me and my heart skipped a beat. It’s happening again. That crazy spark. It’s back.

“You know there is a thing call a new year’s kiss.” He said his voice suddenly husky.

He leaned towards me and I didn’t back away.

His lips met mine.

Unlike Christmas eve that I didn’t move when he kissed me this time my arms wrap around him as he deepened the kiss. His lips tasted like marshmallows and chocolate we were eating a while ago.

His arms pull me closer.

His warm woodsy citrus smell filling my sense making me dizzy.

My heart beating so fast I can almost hear it thundering.

He pulls me even closer as my hands tunnel through his hair. His soft silky hair.

I didn’t want to pull away but my lungs were at their limit. They needed air.

I pull back breaking the kiss.

Air rushed into my lungs as blood flooded my cheeks. I look up to see his eyes had turned a dark shade of brown. They look so vividly intense that it made me catch my breath.

He kissed me again softly, pulled back and smiled.

I wanted to pull him back and just ravish him there but good thing there was still a sane part of my brain intact.

“Happy new year Flo.” He said grinning. His eyes still dark.

“ha-happy new year too Kai.” I answered shaking my head trying to clear it up.

He brushed a few strands  of my hair away from my face and kissed  my forehead softly. Then my chin. His lips were getting closer again when we heard footsteps.

“Guys?! Are you here?” Lay called out.

Kai looked at me for a moment before letting me go. A part of my mind instantly protested.

“Yeah were here.” Kai answered as Butter barked from his box.

Why did he answer? Can’t he see that I wanted him to kiss me again? Why?!

“Flo come on get up.” Kai said.

I look at him , he was grinning happily. What is he so happy about?

Then a thought entered my mind. He said new year’s kiss. Of course a new year kiss. I have seen that in TV and live. So that was it was all about. Just a New year’s kiss. Nothing else.

It’s new year, a time to celebrate and all I wanted was to slump on the floor and cry. I should have known better. That is what you get for assuming Florence. You idiot.

“Hey come on up the fireworks are awesome.” Lay said from the doorway.

“Flo?” Kai asked me holding out his hand.

“You guys go. I don’t want to leave Butter all alone.” I answered.

“You can leave him there. he’ll be fine.” Lay said. “Come on Flo.”

“No you guys go.” I insisted. I was not in the mood to celebrate. Can’t they just leave me alone to let me wallow in despair?

Kai and Lay looked at each other and like all dancers moved fast. They had their hands under my elbows and hauled me up and dragged me back to the roof top. I was wishing that Butter will bark wildly but he stayed silent.

“Flo! Come on the fireworks are awesome.” Minny said taking my hand and pulling me close to the railings.

The fireworks were awesome but I was not in the mood.

“Happy new year Flo.” Minny said kissing my cheek. I kissed her back automatically.

“happy new year too.” I said.

“That was very lively.” Minny said. “Something wrong?” She asked but I didn’t get to answer since Sehun was pulling me away from her and kissed my cheek.

“Happy New year Flo!” He said happily.

“Happy new year too baby.” I answer as Chen and Beakhyun pulled me from him and also kissed my cheek.

I was being passed around like a doll. I place a smile on my face but my mind was elsewhere.

“Your smile is so fake.” Kris said softly as he kissed my temple. “Something wrong?”

I shake my head. he didn’t need to know what’s bothering me.

“just overwhelmed a bit.” I answered as he puts an arm on my waist pulling me close. I was shivering a bit from the wind and if Kai was warm Kris was hot.  It must be because of his enhanced body structure or whatever but his heat started to warm me up.

Overwhelmed might be the right word to use for me tonight. I was overwhelmed with the thoughts and emotions running through my head.

“Well can I get a proper new year’s kiss?” Kris asked smiling impishly.

“What do you mean proper kiss?” I ask a bit distracted.

“Do you want me to show you?” Kris asked still smiling.

“Ummm no.” I said.

“There are no fans to kill you.” He said as he tuck a strand of hair behind my ear.

“So you acknowledging that you do have fans.” I said smiling a bit.

“Of course with my movie star like good looks I’m born to have fans.” Kris said grinning.

I roll my eyes at him and laughed.

“There I was looking for that.” Kris said.

“Looking for what?”

“A genuine smile and laugh.” He answered.

I smiled at him and ruffle his hair. He swatted my hand away. Like me he doesn't like his hair being ruffled.

“Thanks Oppa.” I said standing on tip toes to kiss his cheek. He moved so when I was expecting his cheek it met his lips instead.

I didn't get an electric charge like I did with Kai but it did make my heart skip a beat.

“A proper New Year’s Kiss.”Kris said grinning as I pull away.

“You are a thief.”I said rolling my eyes at him.

“So send me to jail.” He answered laughing. He was in a jolly mood today which was nice since he was usually so short tempered this past few weeks.

“If you keep doing that I might just think you like me.” I teased his jolly mood transferring to me a bit.

“I do like you, you silly girl.” Kris said rolling his eyes.

“And I like you too wolf boy.” I answered grinning.

“Thanks brain girl.” He answered laughing.

“Hey Kris! Stop monopolizing Florence!” Luhan said and I can distinctly hear the teasing tone in it.

“I’ll just kidnap her then.” Kris answered but pulled me towards them and near the fire.

“Right. People really like kidnapping me these days.” I said sitting down beside Minny. She threw a blanket over the two of us and snuggled beside me.

“Well you’re a hot item.” Luhan said handing Kris a can of soda. He opened it and handed it to me.

“Thanks Kris.” I said to him. “I think it’s safe to get Butter now.” I shifted away from Minny who complained. She was already dozing on my shoulder.

“I’ll go get him.” Tao said and went off to do so.

I look down at my best friend. She looked like a child having happy dreams.

“She always does that when we wait for the sunrise.” Kai said smiling fondly at Minny. I tried to hide my frown. Good thing people don’t turn green when they get jealous.

“When did you guys start doing this?” I ask them after a moment.

“Middle school.” Beakhyun answered as Tao came back bearing Butter who was yapping at him and trying to his face. Tao placed the box beside me and Butter jumped out to burrow in my lap. It seems he already knows who he belongs to.

“Can I thank you guys again for my present?” I ask them as I petted Butter and put part of the blanket on top of him.
