 Shuhua moved to Seoul when she was 7 years old, that’s when she first met Seo Soojin as they ended up in the same class sitting next to each other on the first day. Soojin is funny and is nice to her, not what she expected her to be since some classmates told her how stories about the Seo clan and why she should avoid them , and they quickly become inseparable, Soojin helps her with the grammar, they eat their lunches together and jokes around with each other playing on the monkey bars. It took some time until Soojin convinced her father to let her visit Shuhua´s house, they are almost neighbors living two blocks from them, and as soon as she gets there, she’s greeted by a smiling Shuhua and her mother.  Soojin likes it better at Shuhua’s house because her parents are nice her sister Jiwoo can’t torment her if she isn’t there and Mrs Yeh reminds her of her late mother with shortbread smell on her clothes, both of them spends weekends going back and forth to each other’s houses just to don’t make her father mad, he can be really scary when he wants

As they grow up Shuhua understands better the Seo dynamic and how her best friend is obsessed with grades and being a good student, one day Soojin had a bad grade on the math test and showed up the next day acting rather scared and fatigued at school with suspicious bruises on her back.

Shuhua comes out as a lesbian to her parents and Soojin when she was 15 years old, her parents tell her they’re proud of her for being brave and telling them but Soojin has a strong reaction and they end up getting into a fight over it.
